Hi I need some help...We have narrowed our search to 2 places. Where we are there isn't many places which look nice and double as a hotel for our guests who are flying in. The first place we picked is in the town centre of livingston called Mercure and the 2nd is Harburn house. Both have ups and downs but I don't know which one to pick.

Mercure is central so once they get there they dont have to get taxis or travel anywhere as it is right next to shopping centre as well as where I live so there is no fussing. However it is a hotel with no proper ceremony room.

Harburn is a lovely country house with lots of ground and space, rooms available (not close to anything though). I really liked this one but here the ceremony is and where the meal is, is almost a mile long walk! I dont really know as none of them will have transport to elsewhere.

    HELP please!

Emma i would go with what your gut instinct says as its your day! my venue is central location but my church is in the middle of nowhere with very limited parking so i will be putting in the invitations that they will need to car share or arrange taxis but if they want to come they will.

Its a hard decision only thingi will say is that once everythign has happened a mile long walk wont seem so long with everyone chatting and excited, i have been to similar arrangments and it hasnt been too bad, just put a note in the invitation to remind people of this and that sensible footwear might be a good idea or foldable pumps for the walk!

What kind of radius have you searched in? I ask because it seems like you haven't searched very far, but if a lot of your guests are from out of town and will need accommodation, I think you can expand your search radius. We searched within 1 hour of where we live, as we felt this was an acceptable distance to ask people to travel; though we ideally wanted somewhere within 30-40 minutes (ours is 40 minutes away).

Otherwise, for us personally the venue was very important, and for that reason I'd go with the nicer venue, which sounds like number 2. You could always consider providing taxis for the guests flying in, or speak to friends and family and see if they can car-share/give people lifts (we have very limited parking at our venue, and, though there is plenty available in the town centre, we're asking people to car-share where possible so that those staying at the venue can all get spaces). As far as the walk goes, do you have anyone coming who might struggle, eg someone with a disability? If not, I don't see a massive issue, although I would a) walk it yourself at a leisurely pace and time it b) forewarn people, preferably on/in the invite and c) invest in some large brollies in case it rains.

Another thing you might like to do is write up a list of the things that are important to you in a venue, in order of priority, and then score each venue on each out of 10. We did this and found it really helped us to focus on the different pros and cons.

We have searched quite far out... most of myfamily is from down south and some are even coming from mauritius so i cant really do much on the widening the search or asking them to fork out more money for me.

Looking at the website, I'd go for the second one, personally, but that's just based on the websites - if your guests are able to travel it shouldn't be a problem, especially as its all in one place xx

It's less than 10 miles away from Livingston according to google maps, so I wouldn't worry in the slightest - will be under twenty quid in a taxi, and with four to a taxi, that's a fiver each xx

Thanks i am leaning more towards harbun to be fair. I'm glad your helping me decide. just so much to weigh up!! I think you might be right on picking the second one... I think the idea of putting flats in the invitation is a fantastic idea!
