Right, I need help/ advice about my hair...

I have been growing my hair since november as i am hoping to have a quite a bit of length to it for the wedding. I never normally let my hair grown past my shoulders and now im at the point where i dont know what to do. The ends of my hair are really dry and brittle feeling... it feels like straw in places too. I hate it coz i have always had soft hair.

I have tried leave in conditioners, I have also tried moisturising shampoos and conditioners. I use anti frizz serum when i blow dry my hair etc.

I think coz im going swimming a lot, its not helping my hair with the chlorine in the water.

Im thinking of trying VO5 hot oils to see if that helps but i could do with some advice really.

Hope someone can help as i really dont want to cut my hair!!! xxx

i agree it needs cutting, just a trim. it makes the hair grow quicker and healthier but yes hot oil conditioners do help with the condition x

Unfortunately the only way to prevent it is to have it cut - ideally your hairdresser should have told you last year that to grow it you should still have it trimmed regularly, just less regularly than before x

Im a hairdresser, think i can help. I cut my hair in a bob 10 months ago to grow it longer and get it in better condition. Ive only straightenend it about 15 times in that time. Once a week i do a redken treatment over night. I swear by them. I get them off bay of e as they are cheaper and they come in a box of 5 but you only need to use half each time. They are called alll soft silk fuel . They make your hair feel amazing. Spend the money that you would normally spend on cuts on a good shampoo and conditioner. In 10 months ive had mine cut once and its in good condition. If you cut it every six weeks you will just be cutting off what has grown (about half an inch), Mine has grown about 5/ inches. xx

speak to hair dresser but there is hair food that your hair just soaks up. They can be around a tenner but found in many well known places like boots and superdrug.

I've been growing mine for about 3 years now. I used to be really bad at getting it trimmed regularly, but since I got engaged, I've been getting it done every 6 weeks. I'm really strict with whoever cuts my hair and tell them I'm getting married so am growing my hair, and I don't want any more than the bare minimum taking off. I can't believe that they've actually listened!!! My hair is now way doen my back, past my bra strap almost and it keeps growing!
I keep styling to a minimum as I have very fine hair anyway, and only use my straightners or curling tongs on really special occasions and make sure I use lots of heat protector too.
I've also used mayonnaise as a weekly conditioning treatment which actually works! Smother your head in it, wrap in cling film or a warm towel and leave for about half an hour before rinsing and using a light shampoo. Hx

ewww mayonnaise! Also try letting your hair dry naturally or on a lower heat setting. Also try rinsing the conditioner out with cool water it's worked for me and my hair has gone to so short I could spike it to shoulder length in about 1.5 years :) xxx

my hair dresser told me not to cut my hair before the wedding! she only has hers cut twice a year and her hair still grows quick!

I would suggest using a deep conditioner like you have been using. comb it through your hair section by section. then put cling film over your hair and using a hairdryer put some heat on to it for a few mins. leave it for about 15 mins and then wash it off!

my hair dresser does it for me and i can not tell you how soft my hair is after it! xx

ooo thats sounds like a good idea mrs barker to be! I might try that one.. I have cut 1 cm off my hair though just to get rid of the worst of it and it feels a lot better today! if i keep conditioning it etc then it should continue to grow nicely! (i hope!)xxx

My mums told me off for cutting it... she said that 1 cm will make the difference on how your hair is styled for the wedding. I just replied "it will grow back!" lol

I have been growing mine and have it trimmed every other time I get it coloured (every 4/5 weeks) it's so long now it's doing my head in but at least I can have it curled for the wedding then get it all chopped for honeymoon!

Hi honey, My hairdresser encouraged me to get mine cut every 6-8 weeks too, mine was up by my ears and has now landed on my shoulders. Having hair in good condition really helps it grow....it's a bit like plants I think - if it's busy trying to repair the dead it can't get on with just growing. I take daily (ish) hair skin and nails tablets. Try to eat fish a minimum of twice a week. I barely use straightners and try to keep tying it up nice and loose to avoid breakages.

    I'm now a married woman
    I have a gorgeous husband
    Whats to do now
Theres no more wedding planning to do
