I love my mum and her opinion and thoughts mean a lot to me but I'm a tight bum budget freak and she prefers quality over price, making it slightly different to plan. Because I'm looking at how I can make it Cheaper yet lovely and she just saying just do it don't worry get someone to do the cards ect yet I'm thinkingt I can do that for half the price. She is paying some of the budget but hasn't said what yet. But I don't know wether I should just go ok mum will do it the easy way ( she hasn't got a lot of spare time to help with DIY) or do I go no I'll make them myself and hope it turns out as nice :s x

I can see what your mum means, but its your day and you have a long time to pratice or make dummy invites etc, plus you have more time to make more. If your willing to put in the time and effort Id say DIY wins for me.

Do what you are comfortable and happy with, if you save money in the process that's great!

Tricky one, obviously if you WANT to make them yourself do so, but if you are just doing it to try and save money it gets harder to work out .. You already said she has said she will be paying towards but you don't know how much - she properly is wanting to bay the extra to make less work for you , so less stress building up to your big day , just not knowing your real budget with her help is the hard point

I think you can joke about it with your mum.. maybe come to a compromise that she lets you try doing things first, and if you're not happy then fork out more as necessary... tell her that it means a lot to you to have the satisfaction that you didn't have to pay over the odds and you may feel your day would be a little tarnished by over priced items!
If shes your mum i would ask her outright, "you said about contributing to the wedding, do you know about how much, due to we kinda tight on money and you keep on pointing out to get really expencive things buy , which yes I like but was planning on DIYibg it as were on a budget! But depending on how much we have maybe I could buy some of it and DIY the rest, which would take a bit of stress of me!"

I can see your mums point but diy-ing for cheaper seems like a better idea to me. Plus like Lana said ask her outright :)

She probably doesn't mean to annoy up, sounds like she is just giving her opinion. X

She prob just wants to take some of the stress of the wedding off you, I ended up making my own after searching everywhere for the right ones and I enjoyed it, spent an hour an evening when I had time to do then with no distractions ( kids lol) it's up to you it's your wedding at the end of the day x

My mum was like that at first....and to be honest, for good reason! I'm not crafty at all, and whilst I made a lovely prototype invite, it took me three hours to do one invite and the amount of wastage of materials meant that it was probably not very cost efficient....she is quite crafty so probably had a better idea of what was involved than I did, and thankfully she stepped in and did a cracking job of finishing the other one hundred and ten invites!!!!
I think she was ready to disown me at this stage lol

I am very crafty (my only skill lol) and have made lots for the wedding, however, knkwing how much card and embellishments cost, I have bought my save the date magnets and invites with matching stationary! From VP which is amazing, high quality professional and only 40 quid for the lot, yeha! That covers all bases, cheap budget yet professional and no stress over making them!
