It's your wedding so you do it how you want. I would love to be able to do it but I just know I wouldn't get through it talking about my Dad who passed away a couple of years ago, I'm already going to find it too emotional. I recently went to a wedding where my friend did make a speach and she did it really well. She is from Holland and wanted to say something in Dutch as there was no one else to do it really. She was brilliant and really worried she couldn't but she sounded very confident. She wasn't sure if she was going to be able to do it until the day and so had the option to notif she didn't feel up to it. Good luck in your decision making!

I am definately making a speech on my big day, I think a bride has the right to :) I will probably cry my heart out but o well :)
It is also useful as it means if h2b is shy (like mine) they have the light taken off them slightly
Good luck speech writing :)
xx

I'm not planning to, but I am fairly 'out there' and confident so i will probably say something at some point in the proceedings without thinking about it first. As long as I'm still sober, it won't be a problem, lol

I'll definitely be making a speech on our big day. All our friends and family know I always have something to say about everything! I'll be honest, I'm a little worried about nerves, but I'll be practicing it beforehand so should be ok. xx

My cousin did an amazing wedding speech - she had everyone in tears! But the reason she did it was because no one else would - not her groom or her dad! lol! I'm way too chicken to do one - though I'll probably end up trying after a couple of glasses of champagne! Haha - Would love to read your speech on here when it gets done if you fancy sharing :) x
Can't wait until the 14th July 2012!

I'm writing one that h2b and I will take turns reading. I say "writing", I haven't actually started yet. I want to write something poetic with some funny anecdotes, but I'm stuck on where to start. I need to double check with the best men to make sure we don't use the same stories (it depends which one is taking the speech, as one of them was the one who introduced us so he might tell that story).

awwwww thats a lovely thing to do nisha so happy that am not the only bride who wants to say sumthing at her wedding x

Last night lying in bed I coudn't sleep was was thinking about my speech, think I'm going to tell everybody about the things my fiancee told me when we first met to try and impressive which over time I realised were mainly not true lol some of them were just hyped up to be better than what he had done. Think this would be hilarious!

Hello, mrsomand2b, you should do what you want to do, forget about traditions and what you think people will think, I am doing a speach for my wedding as my hubby to b has a fear of talking in front of large groups, i am shy and not a fan of talking in large groups so i am doing it on his behalf. I think it is a nice way to thank all your friends and family for coming, and mention people that couldnt make it as this will show that you are thinking of them, and most importantly it can be your way of showing your friends, family and husband to be just how much you love him. Cheers. Good luck and practice loads, that way nerves will not get the better of you. x
CommentAuthorLaura
Yes do it!!! Alot of brides are doing this now and i would very much like to do a speach aswell!
xx
CommentAuthormrs omand2b
thanks fluffynik thats what everyone has been sayin aswell thats its not tradition but i really want to do it i have got my heart set on it now and agree laura cos since i said this on here loads of brides have said they are as every1 can see so happy am not the only one but i am also goin to ask my maid of honour to make one aswell cos she has new me since we where born x

See I'm hoping not to make one but speeches could be majorly short as my sister (MOH) will definately not talk in front of an audience, the best man doesn't like public speaking as he can't read and would have to memorise everything (plus he stutters when nervous!) my step father will give a short one and obviously all that's left is the groom, and I'll have to write that anyway as he has no idea of appropriateness! lol xx
