If you are getting married at a venue you need to do both separately, although obviously you should do them around the same time.

Most hotels will hold a date for a couple of weeks before you pay the deposit so you can book the registrar, and then you contact the registrar (some districts will only let you do this so many months in advance) and reserve the date and time. You will then have to give notice up to twelve months before the big day.

But yes, when we reserved the reg we reserved the time too xx

It is confusing...when I first looked into it all I kinda assumed the hotel would sort it.....was quite shocked to find I had to pay another five hundred quid in registrar fees!

    Xx

We rang the venue and provisionally held the date and time with them and then rang the registrar. Once the date was set with the registrar we rang the venue back and confirmed. x

I think that you don't have the registrar fees, but Catholics still need to give notice which is around seventy pound, but perhaps someone can confirm this? Xx

Yeah, the registrar fees are a bit of a shock aren't they! I had a right faff oarganising it as we live in London and are marrying in Shropshire. You have to book the registrar before you give notice! And you have to give notice within two weeks of booking the registrar! x

    Were they ever!!

It varies loads from district to district...we could book up to eighteen months in advance, than had to give notice in the thirty days after it was one year to the wedding. I've heard some districts won't let you book until you are in time to give notice (12 months before) which must be stressful with organising a venue! Xx
