Wedding Forum - I hate my cake **UPDATE**...

I hate my wedding cake and I dont know how to tell h2b. We chose it ages ago and it is now all paid for. At the time I did like it, I wasnt overjoyed by it but Neil thought it was great and to be fair he hasnt had much choice in anything bless him, so I thought well he really likes it and he wants it so we'll it...like i say, I didnt not like it, I just wasnt that excited about it. Anyway ever since we set foot out of the shop I have not stopped thinking about it, I kept telling myself that its only a cake, it doesnt matter too much, it wont look like anything when its in everyones belly lol and h2b loves it and if he's happy, i'm happy but thats just it, im not. I have just found a picture of it to see if I may be thinking its worse than it actually is and its not...I hate it. I just dont know how to tell him and more to the point will there even be anything we can do about it now??? I know its only a cake but i keep seeing all these lovely cakes everywhere i go and its really upsetting me...sorry if i'm being too dramatic over a cake lol, i feel like i am being ridiculous lol xx

Would it be possible for you to order a second cake which you could choose and have as you're "Wedding Cake"? Your H2B's cake could then act as it is, the "Groom's cake". I'd never heard of this until recently, but i think a few people are having two cakes: one the typical wedding cake and a second for the Groom. I'm not sure what the tradition is, but i think it's similar to the garter toss but for your Groom to give a slice of his cake to all the single women at your Reception. (I could be very wrong but there is a story behind it)

I dont think our budget would stretch to another cake to be honest, never heard of that tradition Nicola, might have to look it up though, just in case

They way I am feeling at the minute nothing would make it look better apart from eating it so you couldn't see it anymore lol xx

I have to say I love it too and like Nicola was worried about how to respond but on seeing it your h2b has made a really excellant choice!

I think that's a gorgeous cake. I had an idea for something like that but h2b had his heart set on something else so we've paid a deposit on a plain 3 tier cake. If you don't like it speak to your h2b and see if you can reach a compromise with the designer. I really do think it's a fab cake though and the indivual parcels are real in at the moment. I hope you can reach a compromise.

I think it's great because you've got a mixture of a tiered cake and the individual ones.

Could you and H2B not come to a compromise? Maybe keep a similar style but change the detailing/add a cake topper etc?! Something of your choice then you're both happy with the input you've had and the end result? xxx

I think its lovely but if you are unhappy with it like raggedyanne said, you are not tied into the design, as long as they make you a cake they wont mind, speak to your cake maker, im sure there is a lot they could do differently that wouldnt change the price

I think it's lovely too - but im sure if you tell H2B that its really not what you want, he will change his mind and you can both decide on a cake you do want x

Aww hun its horrible when you don't love something 100% I have changed my cake recently as we firstly chose a 3 tier heart shape cake it was lovely and at first I really liked it as was going to add 2 tiers of cake balls under it but as time went on I kept looking at the picture we based it on and I thought god am I gona regret this 20 years down the line when I look at the pictures of it in the end I said to h2b I don't love this cake we need to pick something else or it will ruin the day and we picked something else together we both love much more simple and elegant it doesnt matter how many people do or don't like it if YOU aren't 100% then you need to speak up and tell h2b that you don't like it and sort something out asap with the cake maker hope you sort it hun good luck x

i would speak to him about it i know its paid in full but they wont have started to make it yet so in theory it could be changed. if you really hate it that much, how ever as its one of the only things your h2b as actually picked would it really spoil your day if you had the cake he picked and really likes if its something thats going to ruin your day and you will have to look at it in pictures for along time i would look to change it if h2b agrees maybe if you can find something you both actually like x

I have spoken to H2B and he just laughed at me said..."its only a bloody cake you daft sod" lol...he thinks i am daft for worrying about it all this time and not mentioning it, he doesnt want me to have something i am not sure about, he said he does like it but not that much that he'd have it even though i wasn't happy!! He said we can ring the company and arrange to go and see them as Krissy said they wont have started to make it yet, I just imagined we would have something alittle less "busy" if you like...simple and classy
I do however feel bad now as it is more or less the only thing he has picked..its not that he hasnt had any involvement its just that i have sort of taken over (if i didnt nothing would get done) and he just happens to like everything that i have chosen ( or so he ays lol) .and no it wouldnt ruin my whole day as the only the that matters to me is marrying my man!!
I just knew it wasnt right as I couldn't get it out of my mind and I just want everything to be perfect

Glad you got it sorted hun. We had the same issue with first dance. Originally I was all for h2b choosing the wedding song but I'm finding it difficult judging by his first 2 choices. They're what he calls emotional, I call depressing... it's been on my mind alot. You just want it all to be perfect dont you, although I think I'm baring my inner control freak lol x

I just think its got too much going on Kimmy... i'm just not 100% happy with it :-( xx

This Cake is lovely, looks very extravagant and i think it will look even btter with the purple ribbon! i undertsand every1 has differetn tasted but i bet more people will like it than not! xx

ps, just be honest with your h2b after all it's only a cake! x

I like your cake, it's better than mine lol. I think cakes are a hard choice - I don't like many and none have wowed me.
Guess all you can do is speak to him if you really feel you can't let it go... x

Looked at your picture, and personally I really like it, but it must be horrible if you're not happy with it :(
You still have time to change it if you have 5 months til the wedding hun. x

I think its a beautiful cake, I wish mine was like that. Mines just a budget bog standard from m&S your so lucky and you dont know it.

Just to let you know that we went to see the cake lady yesterday and we have changed the design of the cake
when we got there she she said she had made up a sample of the original one we had chosen in our colours to look at before we made our decision and i was like "oh actually its not as bad as what i was picturing in my head" and h2b said "sarah its horrible" lol dunno if it was for my benefit to make me feel better or what but we have now chosen a new design, the lady was very understanding and had no problem with us changing our mind.

we have chosen a more simple elegant design that we are both very happy with and i can now say I LOVE MY CAKE XX

Future Mrs Mac it should be yeah, but i do have problems when i put albums on so maybe its not there for some reason, i'll have a look, if its a dissapeared i'll put a pic of old cake on alongside new cake when i put it on later xx
