Tell him that he can come, but he has to pay for all his own drinks, then tell the barmen/women to tell him exorbident prices.

Actually, I would just tell him it's on a different date...great idea Joolsy!!

My h2b isn't inviting his real dad as he's an alcoholic and they fell out a few years ago. As far as I know, his dad doesn't even know about me or that we're geting married.

I wouldnt even bother mentioning it unless he already knows about it. You could do as Joolsy suggests and not tell him at all or give him another date. But it depends how he would react if/when he finds out. Last thing you'll need is him turning up and screaming at you because you told him something else or you falling out even more afterwards. Dunno what else to suggest though other than telling him straight out he's not invited and making sure your groomsmen keep an eye out and escort him out if he does turn up.

Just explain that it's too much of a risk to let him come and get drunk and ruin things...it might make him sober up so he doesn't miss his daughters special day! xxx

I suspect that lieing about the date will course more problems than it would solve. maybe the answer is to talk to him about the problem and say unless you can find a solution i do not wont you there.

l would let him come along, and ask your venue to curb the amount of drinks they sell him, also, why not arrange for him to go home at a certain time but let him know your plans and reasons, an early exit will cause no hassles and your day will be great good luck hunni, it's a tuff you have to deal with xx

If you want him there, ask him along but make it VERY clear that people will be keeping an eye on him and if he steps ONE foot out of line or makes a scene ...... he WILL be asked to leave!!!

As you are his daughter I think if you confront him now he could be sober by then if he gets help he should want to do it for you, but you have to be straight with him if he's not willing to change well says it all doesn't it and when he's not invited its his own problem x

I agree be honest with him. I was considering having an booze free wedding. My brother-in-law to-be can be a pain in the ass when he has a drink he already started a fight as his other brothers wedding, didnt want to take the risk

If you want him at your wedding Id slip into conversation your excitement about the evening reception...then casually state 'youll promise me you wont drink at this, my wedding is very important to me'. If you feel that he hasnt taken u seriously or just agreeing with you leave it a few weeks and then explain that you are stressed and worried about this and hopefully he'll understand how important him not drinking is to you. I wouldnt have a drink free wedding as I dont think it would be fair on yourself and other guests (if they drink that is) just because of one person! Good luck hun xxx

If you want him to go then you have to tell him while he is sober that if he so much as gets a wobble on he will be thrown out... end of.

Then designate a couple of ushers, or other blokes to keep an eye on him and do the chucking out if he becomes a problem. That way you wont have to worry about him getting twisted and spoiling your day.

I'm not having my dad at our wedding...

I think the best thing to do is grab him at a 'sober' time and tell him straight... I don't think there is really another way :| xx

Tell him the truth..don't lie and shuffle around the problem.

If you are definate you do not want him their due to his Alcoholism they he has the right to know SOONER rather than later as you *may* find this could be the kick up the ar se into reality' he needs to get him looking into some help with his disease.
