As i have said to you all my H2B got the job he went for.

Well he is on a lot of pain medication and has been off work for almost a year,

He started a weeks training on monday and he called me today to tell me he was no longer going to work for them as he had not disclosed to them that he was on any medication for his back pain!!!

    I was fuming and disappointed!!!

how can he be so so stupid!!!

I have told him he has to disclose EVERYTHING!!

He is soo upset because he was sooo excited about getting back to work. so now i have to say there there it will all be fine when i dont even know if it will and try to tell him at the same time that he was a tool for not disclosing his meds!!

He said he thought they wouldnt check up, but the did. so he has now put himself through all this excitment to get knocked back, he also said that he wouldnt have gotten the job if he had disclose he was on his meds!

ok he may not have gotten the job but we would not be in the situation we are in now and he would never have had his hopes up he would have just been told sorry and had time to move on to getting other jobs!!

I honestly dont know what to do! We REALLY needed this job to happen!

Oh hun I'm so sorry, what an awful position to be in. Hopefully he's learnt his lesson and then next time the excitement won't go to waste.
Fingers crossed that he finds something else to go for soon xx

At least now he knows that he can get a job if he really tries, and that he does defintley want to work so that's a plus.
Just don't let him get down on himnself, start a job hunt with him and try to get him excited about another job.
Hope it all works out for you

    We are looking now!
He keeps saying how hes let his mum and everyone hes told about his job down!
F all those so called friends that havent been around for him since hes become unwell what the hell has it got to do with them anyway!!

Hes called a few places that he didnt try before because he thought he would never get them!

Iv told him that he needs to disclose everything.

Hes also got an appointment with the jobcentre to see if he is elidgable for that new thing that used to be disability allowance as its his health that is stopping him getting the jobs!!!

    Xxx

disability living allowance is still available. it'll be change to personal independant payment in january 2013. and the jobcentre doesnt deal with that.
it does deal with employment and support allowance which is to help people who have a sickness to either get back into work, or get the required support they need due to their ill health

    hope this helps xxx

Fingers crossed he gets someone good at the jobcentre - not always the most helpful people! It's a good idea to get benefits if you need them though, at least it'll take some of the financial pressure off you both as well xx

Why should being on medication (of any kind) stop him from working? Unless it's a driving job or he's operating machinary, which could be dangerous.
I'm on pain medication a lot of the time for my RA and I can tell you know if an employer told me I couldn't work for them because of it, I'd be straight on the phone to a solicitor and quoting the Equalities Act 2010 at them!
This sort of thing makes me so mad!
I hope your H2B gets it sorted Hx

He is a driver thats why it is stopping him!

And it is the employment and support allowance that he is away to check out as he is on job seekers just now

he was let go due to ill health and i told him to do it then but he just went for the job seekers.

He wont get employment in the trade he knows due to the tablets but the all say the would take him in a shot once hes off as hes got the best experience, and he cant in the care proffession and such as hes tried and his disclosure has stopped him!!

has his work said he can't have the job? They do have a legal obligation 2 make changes 2 his working environment 2 help him at work. I would get him 2 spk 2 his manager and c if there's some sort of compromise. I think its fantastic that he wants 2 work and we need ppl that genuinely want 2 work. If he shows that commitment 2 his manager, I'm sure they'll sort something out.

    Oh hun Im sorry!!!

I know what the impact of painkillers can be!! Its one thing to drive a car, but a business's will be very hard on it due to their lability insurance - its harsh but that the reality!!!

With regards to other jobs like office etc - I have been employed for jobs that I was no where near qualifed for!!!
When I left school I was taken on as a trainee vet nurse, I was taken on at a hotel and ended up being deputy manager!! I was also taken on at a fashion import/export clerk - never done it before and ended up a dispatcher!! I even got taken on as an administrator and accountat at a bakery - I had only just left school a month before

As he has been a driver something lke that may suit him - Most transport companies have inhouse systems that everyone would need training on! and understanding times and routes it may be an idea!! (they also pay well)

Unskilled jobs are hard to come by I agree, but if he shows in his interview that he is up for it and is hardworking and reliable, you will be in with a really good shot!! People that are looking for employers are now going on personality more than qualifications!! you would be amazed at how many people I have worked with that have all the qualifiction in the world, but have the personality of a wet fish!!, fair to say they never hang around long!! I fhe can show he means business and will let the company mould him into what they want and need he will get a job he never imagined himself getting!!!

Wish you and him luck hun!

Is it not an insurance issue afterall then? Seems to me that is black abd white, it is or it isn't, he can or he can't, not a situation where you both have to be worrying for three weeks

    Hope it all works out.

Surely it is upto the DVLA to decide whether or not he can drive on the medication, if they say it is ok the insurance company will normally agree (subject to a slightly increased premium).

Also a company is not allowed to simply tell him he cant work because of his illness, as it sounds like (and I am not 100% sure as there is not enough detail on the thread) that he is likley to be classed as disabled under the equality Act (please note that this is not nescessarily the same as being disabled for benefit purposes or actual physical purposes). If he is disabled for the purposes of the Act, the company are required to consider what, if any, reasonable adjustments can be made to assist him in remaining in work. If they think it through properly and there are adjusments that it is reasonable to expect them to make to help him, then they should make them. If not that could be disability discrimination. However if he didnt tell the whole truth to start with they may have an argument to say that him not disclosing the medication is gross missconduct, but it doesnt seem like that is what they are saying.

I would encourage the employer (as he seems like he is trying to help) to arrange a meeting between your H2B and HR to discuss the effects of the medication and what they can do to be sure that he is safe to do the job. If there is a reasonable way forward they really should allow him to continue.

    Hope this helps xxx

His doctor has been contacted about what medication he is on and my H2B has already had a meeting to discuss how he is on his medication.

he is alot better than he was before as he was on a lot more medication before which really did affect him badly.

All i know is what my H2B has told me.

As he did not disclose that he was on his medication that could affect his ability to drive they told him they could not employ hiim.
Although today the guy told him that he was going to try get him working, either by persuading HR that he is ok on his tablets or by my H2B coming off the tablets.

My H2B is still going to look for work and still has his part time work until we know the what is happening.
