Everyone has different thoughts on favours and it's right, they are not a tradition here so it's not high on the list, whereas in Italy, France and other european countries weddings wouldn't take place without them. Wether you give just a pouch or somekind of keepsake, they are tradionally given with 5 sugared almonds which represent Health, Wealth, Happiness, Longevity and Fertility for the couple, although now there is so much choice of confectionary which also goes down well. They can be as expensive or inexpensive as you like. And like some of you said, as it is not expected here guests won't be dissapointed if you don't give.
