    Good evening girls!

Last Wednesday on the 16th November I sent an email to my German pen-pal asking if he could make it to my wedding. This is what I wrote:

Me and Gavin have set a date for the wedding. It will be on Friday 28th September 2012. You are very much welcome to attend if you can make it. It would be a pleasure to have you there. I think it might be a bit of strange circumstance to meet your pen-pal for the first time, but I am very open to it. I really wish you are able to attend.

    Today I got this reply:

I was delighted to hear that you and Gavin are going to get married. That's good news. Thank you very much for your invitation. I appreciate it. I had already made a reservation for a holiday in Germany. Since I can spend any year a holiday in Germany, but cannot attend your wedding any time I decided not to travel to Saxony but to England. I arrive to Southampton on Thursday 27 of September in the afternoon and leave on September 30, Sunday morning for Heathrow.

I am so happy! We have been friends for years and it means so much to me that he is cancelling his holiday that he had already booked to come to share our special day. It will be the first time we will have met each other. I have seen his photos and we have spoke on the phone a few times, but it will still be strange.

I will have to give him a really special gift for coming all this way. Any ideas?

    Thanks girls! xxx

aww thats nice mrs! the teapot would be a nice gift. theres a good website that sells traditional english gifts like replica buses and taxis (model of course!) if you want I could give u the link. we had relatives from england that emigrated to canada and we used to send them wee things to remind them of home and dad always used that site! xx

Exciting! Great idea about getting him something special. Love the teapot idea!

I had a penpal in Argentina that came for a visit about 10 years ago now (he was visiting London anyway on a holiday) and my mum got him from the train station and I took him to the pub later that evening to meet my friends...on the way to the pub he said "it's really nice to meet you in the flesh, you're fatter in real life than your photos though"! Maybe what he meant to say was lost in translation? Haha. I'm sure your penfriend won't say anything like that though!! :0) xx

    Can't wait to be married!
