So our venue is asking for 100% of our evening guests to be provided with an evening buffet, but i think this is a bit overboard, especially as we're getting married at 1pm and eating our wedding breakfast at 4:30pm!! My question is, how are they gonna know if you don't actually cater for 100%....especially as at other weddings I've been too, not everyone who said they'd go to the evening turned up!!! Can they really enforce this...?

most venues ask for between 60% and 80% for the evening but i belive someone else is having problems with 100% evening right now. i dont know if they can enforce it it would depend on the T&C of the venue

i think this is a rip off purely for profit making,if you go for 100% there will be loads left over,,we had 80% and there wasnt much left at all

i know...crazy right!! We haven't signed contracts yet or paid deposit...so think I might see if they'll settle for 75% instead....just wondering if anyone knew how they could actually enforce it!! Coz I really can't see how!

Ours is 75% I dont fully understand it but from what our venue co-ordinator has said I think basically its another way of saying you pay for the amount of guests you have given them whether they turn up or not. xxx

guess it depends on what you are having? if its bacon rolls or things that will go out individually, then 100% would be nearer the mark. But if its a traditional buffet, or stovies or something that people just help themselves to I really dont think you will need 100%. And there is no way they would know anyway!!

my venue (and every other venue I looked at) say to cater for about 75%. Cause you always get folk who dont come, folk coming who said they couldnt make it, and a load of guests who just dont want to eat anything later on!

Don't get me started on this, after the trouble ive had this week...!!! It depends what your having hun, a normally run of the mill buffet only require 75% of people to be catered for as those who are there during the day have only recently eaten (the wedding breakfast) those who arrive in the evening will have already eaten so realisticly (sp) you only need to cater for 75% but some places insist on 100%. Now if your having bacon rolls like me and lots of others they recommend you cater for 100% as everyone wants a bacon roll so in this instance I can understand them asking for 100%!! It annoys me when they INSIST on it though!!! So there is no way round it im afraid hun, you have to finalise your numbers 2 weeks before and provide for everyone you BELIEVE is coming in the evening!! You will no doubt have food left over but as Tiggs said it is all about making money!!!

just tell them 100 people are coming so they think your catering for 100, if 130 turn up they won't notice...in theory lol x

well the buffet they offer is "a centrepiece cheeseboard, breadsticks and dips, crudites, hummus, tzatziki, selection of open sandwiches, pasta salad, potato salad, pizza and cocktail sausages" and you can add more on for extra cost, but I think this is pretty full on - and £13.50 a head! we've already asked if they'd consider an alternative buffet like pasties and chips...just waiting to hear back! Think we'll have to give them a number that is less then we expect and do it that way....can't help if extra ppl turn up... ;-)

hun i hate to say this but we had a heck of alot more on our buffet, including wraps, paninnis huge meat platters,5 selections of salads and that was just under £10 a head.
we had our reception in our local rugby club, not everyones dresm of a fairytale wedding but we loved it and we brought in a coperate catering company

we knew the food at the venue would be expensive but we love the venue!! It's what we've said we'd rather spend the money on....that and the photographer! We looked at tons but it's the only one that ticks all the boxes (except the cheap box!)!

    It's right what they say
"The course of true love never runs smoothly"
But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

We have the same with ours - insist on 100% even though we have said that most catering companies disagree! We are going to give a 'conservative' estimate, assuming they won't actually count. If they do count and insist on payment per head and there is food left over then I will argue it. If we are in the wrong and food runs out I will be amazed! x

The buffet is one of the major things that made us change our minds on our much loved venue, they wanted £12.95 + vat for one bacon roll per head which was ridiculous compared to the buffets on offer with other venues at around £5 a head less. Like others have said, they kind of have to enforce 100% in the case of bacon rolls but I doubt a full buffet will require catering for every single person. xxx

If you have the buffet they are offering then tell 20 people less are coming. my sis in law told her venue she was having 80 people fot the reception including the people from the wedding breakfast. Paid for it all. Then on the day had a 110 people there. Venue didnt coulnt as people where coming and going all night. and she still had loads left over so you wont need 100%

We had to provide 80 per cent too but we argued our point and they did back down in the end and accepted 70 per cent and it is quite a full buffet at £8.95 per head, we also were then introduced to the sweet buffet lol but they have agreed that we can provide our own gateaux/cheesecakes and of course the wedding cake which will cost next to nothing from the land of ice x

we are having a hog roast and i will ask for any meat left to be boxed up for me

good idea lalabunni!! hadn't thought about that! was thinking of asking a similar question about the wine tho as we're paying for our guests to have 2 glasses each with meal, but i know from past weddings not everyone manages to drink 2 glasses so i wanna make sure it's estimated in bottles so we get our money's worth!!!!

I wouldnt tell them the true numbers which your are expecting for the evening. I told my venue that we had no evening guest and had 30 roll up at 7. No one noticed and really whats the worst that can happen..... the venue makes more money at the bar! xx

I've never been to a wedding where they are counting the numbers in and out the door people are always popping up to their rooms, outside for a fag, running around with the kids, etc... I'd do what the others have said and just tell them you have a lesser amount attending. Ours is 75% & is £5 for a bacon / sausage bap & potatoe wedges. xx
