I'm really struggling with how to go about finding a good band. I've looked on some websites that specialise in this but the bands cost so much and tbh I didn't like them enough to pay that. Ideally I want to find a local band but as we're getting married in Somerset but live in London I'm not sure where to start!

Have you tried local wedding fairs?? What about FB? Do you know any suppliers that may have recommendations? Local clubs etc.
It's not something I have had to look for so I don't really know but maybe that might help xx good luck xx

I would possibly travel to local wedding faryes to see if anything comes up, either that, email local colleges in Somerset to see if they have any bands studying music who would like to do it. We have a music college here on the island.

Go to pubs and local venues and scope out local bands. They will be cheaper and probably better than agency bands, and love it if people have seen them live in public first before booking them.
Music was a huge theme in our wedding so it was important the evening entertainment was spot on. We saw our band in a pub one evening and booked them straight away. They were a huge huge hit with all the wedding guests.

Search on FB for bands local to the area. You could also try Gum7ree and local pubs as JennK says. Its always a good idea to see them before booking if possible so you can see how they interact with a crowd. An average band can become good if they work well with the crowd and see what is working rather than sticking rigidly to the set list. X
My other half's best friend has all the dj stuff so he is going to be borrowing that but we came up with the idea of asking every guest to request a song that will get them up and dancing so we will build a playlist from that :) hopefully it works!!

We booked our band this weekend; I originally looked at a wedding bands agency site but all the bands we liked were already booked on our date so ended up going to a local wedding fair and found 3 bands who were playing and picked the one we liked the most.. so definitely go to fairs and google local wedding bands. there are expensive though but we really wanted live music at the wedding so I think it's worth it. Good luck x

Thanks everyone, I've been to a few wedding fairs and havne't had any luck. I've got some quotes now from an agency and a local band. Reluctant to spend too much time looking incase they all book up! Me and my OH are going to sit down and talk about all our options at the weedend so hopefully we can make a decision.
