As most of you are aware i'm not getting married for 4 year's, have planned everything but not booked anything (still getting quoets and saving up) And i wondered if it would be too soon to buy some stuff because they are great bargin prices and i'm worried if i leave it till nearer the time they either wont have that particular item anymore or it goes up in price, but if say i got my dress would puttin it away in storage ruin it? Please help would be grateful xx

All the little things I would get as soon as possible, I actually had my flowers delivered at the beginning of the year and not getting married till August but I saved a lot doing it that way and I knew they were exactly what I wanted, find out from a wedding shop the best way to store a dress, people get married and keep them and their daughters wear them so it is possible x

If your keen and 100% sure Id say go for it at the end of the day weddings cost money regardless of how much your budget is and its better to plan things at your leisure to ensure all runs smoothly and you can live as comfortably and stress free as possible. On the other hand...I like Dove have changed my mind ALOT over the past year and unfortunately bought a number of things that I plan not on using anymore as they dont suit the theme or style of dresses that were bought afterward!!!! As a result it has costed me MORE money being too organized....If your really really keen buy items like confetti, balloons, decor etc that you cannt go wrong with. Another thing...I regretted buying accessories BEFORE purchasing dresses as I ended up getting something that I didnt image Id buy! xxx

I think that dress is really nice and it's really unusual - I think you're right you might not get it nearer the time then you'll be gutted! If I was you I'd just go for it, if you know it's the one! I bought my dress last summer and I'm not getting married til next summer - I got it on sale at the wedding show - first one I saw and fell in love! It was the last of a discontinued line, hence the cheap price I got it for - so I knew I had to get it and it was my last chance! I took it home that day and it has been in my gran's cupboard ever since! It's in a zip up bag on it's own in a wardrobe so it doesn't get crushed or damaged. I think go for it!

I think that even though that very dress may not be available in 4 years, I very much think that you could get the dress mad eif you wanted to. You have pictures of it etc. Believe me, 4 years is a lot of different wedding dresses that will come and go. styles change, tastes changes in 4 years. I personally would wait another year at least before committing to a dress. However saying that, if your 110% sure, then go for it.

If you are to go ahead with the dress make sure its a breathable acid free dress bag that you buy as these are especially made for long term storage, also ensure it is long enough to contain the dress so that it has less chance of creasing. Although your dress (if bought soon) would need airing at regular intervals over the 4 years and also a chance for any creases that do develop to drop out.

As for the smaller things, balloons tend to rot after a year of purchase or can be harder to pump or blow up as they elasticity goes and they get sticky. Favour boxes will get musty no matter how well you store them and even if they are in secure packaging.
But the likes of table crystals, confetti, etc would be ok to store for the 4 years if you were to puchase them now.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. xx

Seriously Claire, I would wait. You've got 4 years, enjoy your engagement, enjoy being a couple. Open a bank account and put so much money a week/month away. Give it 2 years before you even seriously think about this wedding again.
If you keep up with stressing about finances, venues, dresses etc etc then you're not going to enjoy the planning, you'll send H2B crazy and by the time your big day gets here you'll be so wired from it that you won't enjoy it.
I've been planning on and off for a year now and we've still got a year to go and to be honest I'm so sick of it all now that I feel like cancelling everything and just going to the registry office - don't let yourself get to that stage!

We have a joint account and are just enjoying being engaged, whilst saving along the way. We are going to give ourselfs about 18 months to buy/plan/organise the rest as styles change and I know I would end up changign my mind too :-) xx

I've started buying little bits and bobs and put them all away safetly, I just didn't want to leave everything till last minute and be panicking!!!!! If youve bought stuff then few months or so down the line and you want to change it, you could always sell on the stuff that you originally bought I suppose, just an idea :)

if you buy things now you will have to store it and keep it all safe which will be a hassel, the good thing is you have time to look and see how prices change, when is the best time to buy, you can see new styles, if you buy a dress now you have 4 years of chancing finding another one you like better, keeping it safe, fitting in that dress in 4 years time, i would embrace the fact you have so much time to collect info on deals, even collect pics for a scrap book so when it comes to buying things you can look over all the good ideas and you will find it easy to choose good luck and i wish i had as much time as you hun

Speaking personally, I started planning this January but am not getting hitched until September 2011. So 20 months from initial preparation to the big day is already proven for me to make decisions, then change my mind..then make another decision.

I have certainly made use of todays prices and availabilites etc..time is on the side of a prepared person in regard to booking venues etc but...

Time gives us all the opportunity to change our minds and take on new thoughts and opinions...so, personally I am NOT making any firm decisions until nearer the day - Gawd knows I do not wanna be stuck with a dress, flowers, cake etc that I have changed my mind about!!!

Snap CeCe although starting planning before January. I think I started around 2 years before making little decisions like colour scheme, themes, and arranging ideas and obviously nosing at dress stuff etc.

The actual buying I only started (other than venue deposit in January) in March and it's kinda snowballed from there.

I'm paying deposits now but not doing any finalisation until January next year.

Certain things do stand out for you and if you're 100% certain then I'd go for it but otherwise hold off for as long as you can.
