Ok, so we've been looking at UK locations to our honeymoon, as OH doesnt like flying/water/boats so thinking of a mini break to Edinburgh or Lake District followed by a family break with our 2 boys. Mini break together. All good, we have a 'healthy' budget for our honeymoon so finding 5* luxury for a few nights just us two isnt looking too bad.
However, for our family break thought the centre that is parks might be nice, as we've never been and ive heard good things. Obviously, we thought if we're going to go, we'll stretch to a more plush apartment, one with a jacuzzi perhaps, not just bog standard. Had a look at April 2015, as July not yet available, for a 4 night break. I almost choked on my monster munch.....£2000 for a 4 night break in an exlusive apartment! WTF! The next apartments up went up to £2,500, £3,300 and £4,000! I could get a 2 week luxury holiday in Cape Verde for that price.
Is it me, or is that an extorniate amount of money to expect someone to pay?! Surely most average families couldnt possibly afford that for a family of 4 for 4 bleeding days, and if they could, they would go somewhere with more consistent weather! These prices were not even in the summer holidays, which is when our honeymoon would be, so lord knows what it goes up to then.
Maybe I'm just completly naive and this is quite 'reasonable' for most people. I just couldnt believe it!

That is a lot! Me and OH are going in a log cabin for 3 nights in the Lake District and it's costing £400 With a hot tub private area and a beautiful little stream going by Shop around online don't mention the word honeymoon I found this made this a lot more expensive xx

Centre Parks aren't cheap; I would have a look at independent property rentals in a nice village somewhere.
Another one worth looking at is Forest Holidays; I went for my hen and they have a range of different cabins, inc ones with hot-tubs and BBQs. They're very well-equipped; the main down-side is that they don't have as much to do on-site as Centre Parks, though they do have a cafe/bar/shop, room service (pizzas mainly), and some activities eg cycling/archery/tree-climbing. I had a look for July 2014 (2015 should be similar prices) and the most expensive one, which has a hot-tub, BBQ, Wii console, towels, slippers and robes, etc starts at £1035 for 4 nights.

:O That is a crazy amount of money, me and H2B are looking at Egypt all inclusive for 2 weeks in July for £2000. This is this years prices as next years aren't out yet. No way would I pay that for 4 days in the UK.

I remember looking at centre parks hears ago. Saw that it was disgustingly over priced and decided to never bother.

We're doing an 8-night all inclusive cruise with two excursions, visiting Israel, Turkey, Rhodes and Cyprus and it's costing us £2.500. That's with a deluxe cabin (they only have suites above that). What you're looking at is a ridiculous cost.

They are well known for being expensive .... My daughter had a log cabin in the Lake District complete with jacuzzi for a week n paid lots less than that ...., I'll try to get details for you
That is a crazy amount of money given hubby and I got 18 nights in Hawaii and LA with flights and 4*and 5* hotels for just under £6k. We island hopped too so lots of internal flights. I wouldn't pay £2k for 4 nights!

I have to say that having previously looked for a high quality Uk holiday they often work out just as expensive if not more than a foreign holiday. Look at renting a cottage you can get some beautiful high spec ones with own pool sauna etc at the fraction of the price. It's worth considering x

Katielea, could you give me the details of the log cabin in the Lake District if you don't mind.

go to a site called lodges with hot tubs or ho seasons they are great for family breaks inposh cabins. if you go to ho seasons book online and apply the toy r us discount you don't even need a card but will save you £25 xx

Im guessing that the date your looking at is school holidays there always more expensive, any chance you can take them out of school for a few days mid term might save you a bit of money
CommentAuthorCharlieBe-Cool
Thanks for the recommendations - I'll have a look at them.
KayC79 - this was for next April. We'll actually be going during summer holidays in July, so will potentially be even more!

I'd look at glamping there's a place north of Edinburgh called glen clova lodges you'd get hot tub and separate rooms but isn't so far away you could still do day trips to Edinburgh or Glasgow
CommentAuthorFranM76
Oh wow that is a lot isn't it! We're going to Egypt (AI) for 2 weeks for £1500. Coral's glamping idea sounds lovely xx

im amazed people are stupid enough to pay the money to go there. tom keeps saying he wants to go, but im almost certain hes not checked prices hahaha. its becuase he wants to take the bloody dog. i need a damn holiday from that hound, not take it with us (this isnt for honeymoon BTW, id totally not stand for that LOL) id sooner get her a doggy passport and go abroad, it would still be cheaper than there.
