We wanted to have a hog roast for our evening guests (approx 150) however I've just had a quote for almost £2k!!!
Has anyone else had a hog roast before? How much did it cost??

My brothers having a hog roast and its costing £750 and that for 100-150, think it depends on where you live and what extras you're having, get a couple quotes in then haggle

I was expecting £600 max. That's for 150 people and 1 veggie option.. EXTORTIONATE.

Does that include hire of crockery etc, salad options? Extra staff (ie not just chef & assistant?) We were quoted £750 for 140 guests, that's with crockery/cutlery use, 2 staff, hog roast, rolls condiments and salad.
Keep getting quote and as madison said haggle, haggle, haggle.

didnt include any crockery or anything exciting. :/
Me and OH were thinking of doing a hog roast or bbq as thought it would work out cheaper! I found that wasn't the case at all! Have found a really good local caterer instead, £10 a head for a two course meal plus crockery hire and waiting service! So sometimes what you think is the cheaper option often isn't, lol, you need to get quote, quote, quotes!! I lost count of the places I contacted before I manged to get a deal we were happy with! Good luck :) x x x

We're h aving a hog roast for our food. Its costing £1750 but that includes meat for 100 buffet (full buffet for 100) 2 veg options, 2 puddings, 5 waitresses and all the clearing up. Sounds alot but when you split it down its not bad.
CommentAuthorbarbie86
That seems quite steep given that it dosn't include cutlery/crockery (which often can cost quite a bit on top); but, I don't know what the average is.
I know my parents paid £1300 for their anniversary for an Indian meal (choice of two meat dishes, a vegetarian dish, rice, poppadoms and chutney, and 3 different starters, plus two members of staff, and the cutlery and crockery) for 80 people. I know that isn't the same, but £2000 for a hog roast sounds dear, I thought they were usually more reasonable.
I'd keep shopping round. It could just be that you're in an expensive area, so try to get quotes from at least 5 places; if they're all coming back in that region, you'll probably just have to swallow it, but you might find you get a much more competitive quote.
Good luck!

I think that is extremly expensive. I had a quote 4 a grand and though that was a lot! xx

Our venue is charging us £1,500 for hog roast in the evening for 100 people, this includes, crockery, cutlery, salads, jacket potatoes, roasted veg pasta (veggie option), savory rice salad and staff to serve.
My sister had one at her wedding last year and it was a similar cost. xx

That's a lot of cooking!
Sometimes local butchers have contacts for people who do hog roast and BBQ's for events. Might be worth taking a stroll down the high street? x

That does sound extortionate, a BBQ sounds like a good idea though! I don't envy you having to sort it out when it's so far away! Good luck, let us know what you decide :-) x

I've seen it priced at around £500 but guess it depends on your area.

Have you thought about a finger buffet? Sainsburys do an order and collect service on platters that look pretty good, were gonna get some of them the evening guests, sooo much cheaper than getting a caterer to do it and so much less stressful then trying to do it ourselves :) x x
CommentAuthorJessicaW22
Or... jacket potato van if there's one in your area? x x

Our venue offers a hog roast and I think it is listed as £18 a head in the brochure, that's for the hog, rolls, wedges, a range of different salads and I think there was a dessert. I think it had a minimum of about 70 people for them to do it though. We're having a bbq in the evening instead as it comes with a greater range of veggie options and I don't really eat meat.

That seems very expensive to me for a hog roast, maybe see if you can find any other outside caterers who could do it for you for less? xx
