I've been ringing around trying to find a cheapish hair/make-up artist for my budget wedding and the cheapest i've found is £148 just for me, then £80 for my MOH and £35 for my 6 yr old bridesmaid. I almost hit the floor when this came back.. i'd never dream of spending £148 on myself even if it is ment to be the best day of my life. Why spend a weeks food shopping on that just to wash it all away at the end of the night?!?
    Am I being unreasonable?
And does anyone know in the kent area that does hair and make-up cheaper than my last quote?
i'd be really grateful as i defo need this to look great on my big day lol x

I dont know of anyone in the kent area but that seems a bit expensive to give you an idea of cost i live in essex not far from you and
i am having my make up on the day and a trial
2 x more adult make ups
6 x flower girl / junior bridesmaid hair and make up
1 x wash and blow dry
    2 x strip eye lashes

    all for £300
I would shop around a bit more some of the prices i was quoted came back very high i just googled lots of make up artist and if i liked there before and after i would ask them to quote

Ill be paying £155 for my makeup
    5 x bridesmaids
    & my mum.

    all include a trial too..

    Thats in the Plymouth area....

Maybe ask the local college? see whether they have any level 3 students who would be confident to do it?

Hair is £40 for me including trial
    £15 for each bmaid
    £10 for my mum.

I know the girls from the salon though hense low prices for hair.

My only advice when getting quotes is not to mention its for a wedding, as they always add an extra 0 on the end. (or that seems to be the case with everything really)

    I'm getting
    Hair and make-up trial
Hair and make-up on the day
    Leg, bikini, eye brow wax
    Fake tan
    Manicure and pedicure.
    Cut and blow dry
    Moisturising hair treatment
    Head massage,
    Facial,
    Individual fake lashes.

For £250, and my BMs hair and make-up is £35 each.

But I was completely shocked at some of the prices I was quoted, One was just hair trial and on the day for £250!!

Where abouts in Kent are you? My BM's mum used to be a make up artist for photo shoots and she's doing mine for £40 and £15 for any extra people including a trial. I don't know if it's cheaper because I know her but she'll be a lot cheaper than £148! I can ask her for you if you like. She's in Sittingbourne x

im in scotland though... but i am £25 per person for hair so=£100 and £25 pp for make up= £100 so £200 all in im quite happy with that, although you say you live in kent isnt it more expensive there?

For make up you could always book into a make up counter in a department store. They normally charge £20 which goes on a gift card so you spend the money, on say your lip gloss. I didn't have time in the morning to do this but we did consider it quite strongly

I have one acronym that will save you loads: DIY.
I was in the same boat, so I've decided I'll do my own makeup and get one of my BM or my MOH to curl my hair for me. I don't especially like strangers smearing things on my face anyway, lol

    KirstyJ22 I'm in Ashford.
Mrsross2b i used to live on the outskirts of Manchester and when i went to my cousin's wedding up there the beauty salon i went to charged me £60ish for hair, facial and make-up. It's ridiculous the prices down here!!
Kat i've thought about that but i'm not sure if i'll have the time plus doesn't everyone stop and stare at you when you have it done lol? umm may have to consider it though.
obsidian_Winter i've thought about that to. I don't mind doing my own make-up providing my eye liner is actually going to play ball but my hair really does need to be tamed on the day.
If i do my own make-up that would cut the cost down, i suppose i could always do my own hair providing it grows!! It's at the top of my shoulders now and would like to have a Tinkerbell bun i think unless anyone can suggest anything for REALLY thick, wavy, wild hair lol x
