Can I ask how much you paid for your cake? I was mooching on Choccywoccydoodah on a pipe dream and saw the bespoke start at £400 so eamiled for a quote and they came back with £945. Having looked at the prices in the wedding mags this isn't too bad as they seem to range from 500 upwards.
We are thinking of emailing back and asking how much for a smaller one for show and then giving the bulk of the guests with an M&S cake. TBH I know a Choccywoccydoodaa cake really is a ""If I could afford EVERYTHING I wanted" cake.
But it got me thinking. How much is the normal price of a cake? xx

Im paying £130 for my cake, its 3 tiers. all 3 tiers are different flavours. It has 79 portions. Thats including the girl taking it to hotel and setting the cake table up as well.

I am making my cake myself.It is a three tier fruit cake and all the ingredients etc have probably cost about £50.I couldn't justify spending hundreds of pounds on a cake. xxx

Im getting mine from Wait-Rose for a amazing £99! 2 tiers and will have the florist decorate with fresh flowers
I cannot justify hundreds of pounds on a cake Especially when the majority of brides tell you they never even got any of their own cake!!

I wanted to make my cake, and tho I can cook a cake, wasnt confidant enough to do it for my wedding! But yeah Poulton Bride im the same, £130 i dont mind as i dont have to worry about the cake now at all and her cakes are wonderful. But i wouldnt pay hundreds of pounds, it would eat my wedding budget, but then if you have the money I guess why not.
the H2B wants a krispy kream tower! lol bless him so because we'll have that we cant afford a real cake so are having a fake decorated cake going to cost about 20-30 pounds!! winneerrrr! :)

the one me and h2b have been looking at is £244 for 25 cakes plus the cake on top or £344 with 50 cakes plus cake on top ( pics in album)

I'm thinking of getting a marks and sparks cake or wait-rose has a beautiful vintage looking cake. I couldn't imagine spening that much on something a lot of people will be too full/drunk to enjoy.

Our friend is making ours and we're just paying for ingredients and cake tins. Before we asked our friend to make it, we saw one for marks and sparks for £250 for a 3 tier sponge cake, but then we looked at birthday cakes from there and there was a 3 tier cake for £45!! People add so much money for hearing the word 'wedding'. I saw something on the internet before about someone who asked for a quote for a birthday 3 course meal for 70 people and then another time asked for a quote for a wedding 3 course meal with 70 people and they added on a grand to the wedding one!! x

i think it is crazy what some people pay for a cake, i wasnt even going to have one lol but there is a girl at my work who makes AMAZING cupcakes, so she is going to make me 200 mini cupcakes for £70.. BARGAIN and i am going to get the hotel staff to hand out at night time to all the guests

my nan is making my main cake as we used to have a bakery where we used to make them professionaly and i am making my second novelty cake. i dont no where some of these places get there prices from, i was looking at a price list for wedding cakes from this shop and just a plain 1 teir wedding cake with nothing on it was like £400! rediculous i have made 3 even 4 tier wedding cakes for less than that! if i was paying almost a grand for a wedding cake i would expect it to be laced in gold x

I think with a choccywoccydoodah one a lot of that cost will be in the name. I bet there are tons of just as talented cake makers who could do what you want for much less. Personally I couldn't justify spending over £100 for something I'm going to get 1 bite of let alone over £500. I'd recommend you shop around a bit more before you finally decide.

I can make cakes and am so tempted to make my own but i strive for perfection and get so stressed so my OH and parents have all told me maybe its not the best thing for me to be doing 2 days before our big day! OH hates fruit cake so will have to be all diff flavours that cant make too far in advance! so that would of definitely saved us money! Now on the hunt for a decent cake company thats not to pricey...ridiculous what people charge for a cake that just has the word 'wedding' in front of it!! And worst off, I know how much it DOESN'T cost to make a cake, let alone 3 tiers or 75 cupcakes!! Yes you pay for time and detail etc but ridiculous how many 0's can be added for the sake of one day!!!
