Just wondering what everyone thinks is a good budget for spending on music/ band for the evening

We're looking at a live band for the evening at around £1000 but I know you can get cheaper than that, and DJs are a LOT cheaper than that (I think from what I've seen on here £250 is about the going rate)

Dj's are not to much of a problem as i know quite a few who would do good deals, its just the band i really want is a commitments tribute act and they charge about £1200 for 90 mins.

I got a swing singer for £400 and he travels from Manchester for the price of diesel which for me is included in the £400 and he has to travel to Bosworth! You can either book him on his own with his lighting and sound equipment or with the band but if you want the full band you can add another grand although he does have various options to suit your budget so you could just have one or two pieces. In between sets he plays music of your choice so it can cater for all sorts of taste.
We couldn't have a band due to the size of our venue room so take that into account if you book one. We measured the space that we have and then asked them how much room they needed to work out how much it would eat into the dance floor.
DJ's are usually the cheapest option, followed by a live singer and then bands are the most expensive.

Yeah, what i was gonna see if i could do was get my friend to bring his equipment as it is all top notch and see if i can get all 3 of them to dj, wouldn't feel right if a friend got a raw deal and had to be stuck with equipment all night, this way they can take it in turns and still feel like they are part of the party and not the staff

How much set time are you getting for the £400

We get 120 mins of live time and then the rest is disco but its a nice mix up and variety. I think..... Its been a while....

That is pretty good
I really like the idea of having a blues brothers tribute act or commitments tribute act, but really worry about if they are gonna sound good enough lol might just say stuff it and have Karaoke and Disco instead lol

You can listen to most of them before you book them. Most have websites that you can listen to them on or you can ask them to send you some clips.

Gessane...have you checked agency websites and google? They should have sound clips that you can listen to. Me and H2B went through loads, you wouldn't believe how many different ways a Killers song (and others) can be killed lol. I wouldn't book anything without hearing them first

My band is costing me 750 pound but that includes 2x1 hour slots and the rest the lead singer will be DJing and doing some solo songs and it includes all light hire and flame blowers!
