We're trying to find a photographer and it's just so confusing!
We know we want someone (some have offered us 2 photographers all day is this better?!) all day from getting ready to after the first dance, we want to have all the photos on a hugh res disk and an album.
There are such varied prices and we don't just want to go for the cheapest, but what % of our budget should we be looking to spend and is there an average price?
I know all you lovely ladies will help me out with this!

The photographer that we're having is costing us £395, for that we get him for the whole day, DVD of the pictures and photo album with 60 pictures of our choice in. Thats all we really want, he puts the pictures on a password protected hyperlink from his website so we can view them first.

wow thats cheap, all the one's we've spoken to are quoting £1000 and over!

I know, they here wedding and then jack up the price. its pathetic. My photographer lives in Birmingham and he is willing to travel a bit for business, and he's a nice person aswell. The only problem that most people have is that most people would like 2 photographers on the day and he works on his own.

We paid £1450 and it was worth every penny.
Remember a decent album is several days work. Plus materials (our album is being made in Italy), equipment, insurance, advertising, travel, tax...

cheapest we've found so far is £400 but that is for very little its around £1000 for what we were wanting, but we are on a really tight budget so depending on what we have left we may just invest in a fantastic camera in the sales after xmas and have a reliable friend take the photos for us and get everyone else to send us their photos too. then me and HTB can spend time making our album how we want it. fingers crossed it we'll have enough money left over for a photographer, but if not sometimes the most natural photos are the best. You could ask the potographers to send you some examples of work they have already done and see if you like them, good luck with your search hope you find something you want xx

we are paying £1950 - this includes both photographers coming for the entire day and night, our storybook album which can have up to 250 pics, a pre-wedding (engagement ) photoshoot plus loads of little extras. I think photography is one of the most important things as its what you will have to look back on for the rest of your life, that's why we are willing to pay so much. x

Don't go by the price go by the work! You want to choose them for style and content and then look at their prices to see if they are in budget. Some photographers are amazing and don't cost the earth yet others can charge over the odds and don't do half as good a job. Its all down to the individual and your own personal tastes. The best thing to do is have a look at their work and pick someone that produces work that you like. Having two photographers can be a bonus as you have two cameras to capture the day where as one person can only be in one place at one angle at a time. That doesn't mean that having one photographer is a bad thing though as they will concentrate on you and the groom most of the time anyway. The price also varies on what after package you have as well as the time on the day. If you can get a disc then this is the best option as you can have reprints later on in time if you so wish. Be prepared to pay for this as some photographers will charge you about £300 for the disc as they know you won't order any prints once you have it. (Its fair enough really) If they don't offer a high res disc as part of the package ask for one as you never know if your house burns down etc you could lose the lot and if they go out of business etc then they may not have copies for you. At least you can have a disc and make copies and store them in accounts online just in case.

We just booked ours at £1600 90 prints in a 60 page book, 4 smaller albums, pre wedding shoot and 2 copies of DVD with all prints taken :-) x

ours is 2500 but we have 12 hours 3 photographers, the style isnt formal its more story book capturing different tales of the day exactly what we want we have a pre wedding shoot, a signature board framed 800 all the photos on a disc from both shoots, 2 albums bound in calf leather, a website and she will air brush if i want them done!! i have spent alot on a photographer a i have seen her work and love it i wanted to find someone that could capture our day as we want as these are going to last a life time. i think its important to find someone who you feel comfortable with get along with as they are going to be capturing the photos that will essentially be on your mantle piece and passed down through family ablums for generations.. dont just go on price

Most we found were about £1500. I wouldn't pay less than about £1000 I don't think - I'd be worried bout quality etc x

Thanks everyone!
Sounds like I'm not getting ripped off with quotes around the £1000-£1500 range anyway. Going to make yet another comparison spreadsheet tonight and see if we can come to a decision!

I refuse point blank to pay the earth for a photographer.. why H2B is a pro photographer and they charge the earth, prints ok thats fine but I would never pay anymore than £400 a day for a decent tog. thats inc prints and a dvd, its not that much work for someone that knows how to use photoshop properly and can edit them in bulk, worse comes to worse we lend the photographer H2B's camera and let them do it with that lol! Pity he can't do it because he's so picky hence why I'm leaving HIM to choose one.
