I'll start with the last question... I don't think it's ever a good idea to get into debt for a wedding.

I think what you spend is entirely up to you and your individual circumstances. My grandma is paying for me to have my dress made with a budget of £2500 to £3000, which is incredibly generous, but you can get lovely dresses under £500.

it all depends on how much u want that dress i think, my dress with alterations is coming in at £1,070 and worth every penny to me, but i think it is something that only u can decided hun it all depends on how u feel in taht dress really and is that feeling worth the cost xxx

my budget was £1000 but i didnt really want to spend that much, in the end i got mine and the alterations for £770, i agree i dont personally think it is something worth getting into debt for, at the time it might seem like a good idea but later down the line you might end up regretting it. x

I definitely think you should go for what you can afford. So set a budget and start looking. I paid £600 for mine, but consider myself lucky as I found a prelovedIT Man Stuart dress in a bridal store in Darlington (miles away from me, lol) which was worth about £2000 for the bride who wore it before me. But otherwise, I wouldn't have paid more than £300. Just couldn't pass up the bargain! But could afford it, if I was going to put myself in debt for it, I would have just let it go and found something else. Good luck in your search! xx

Thanks for the advice ladies, wow you got a bargain there Gregorysgirl, my dream dress is also Ian Stuart, very blinking expensive to buy new but I have found a brand new one in a store that is a cancelled order (bride now getting married abroad needs a lighter dress) store will let me have it half price as they cant return it. Its still a lot of money but no other dress I have tried on makes me feel the way this one does.......... I just compare everything to it and nothing comes even close!!! Arggh x x x x x

Mine was £580 from a bridal boutique - it was a sample so was half price but I absolutely love it. Will come in at about £650 with alterations, and I need to buy a hoop to wear with it. I would say its not worth getting into debt for though xx

i set a budget of 1000 and i went over. However it was THE dress but I did wait until they did the designer sale that they do every now and again so have an 1800 dress for 1159 but have to pay for alts etc. DO NOT go into debt over a dress you will only wear once. My friend is getting married in july and spent 200 on hers from ebay and absolutely loves it so it can be done on a tight budget. If you love it, think of ways where you can get it without getting into debt e.g. are there things you can sell on ebay? Can you do an extra couple of hours in work? Hope you manage to find the cash to get the dress of your dreams or you dream of an even more fab dress for less money x

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo

I thought it was a great bargain too! Love Ian Stuart designs so ecstatic with my purchase. Luckily the lady who owns the shop was so nice and thought it looked so nice on me that she let me pay over a longer period of time than normal when my h2b had to be off work for 5 months following a knee op, otherwise I would have had to gone for something cheaper. I think if you can afford to still get the dress you love then go for it, but nothing is worth getting in debt for. Fingers crossed that you get the dress you want! xx

You should spend what you can afford and are comfortable with it; if you can't afford it, it's too much. My max budget is £500 and I'd love to spend no more than £300; I can't justify spending more than £500 on something I'll wear once. The shoes I've got my eye on are £470 (Gina) and £315 (Jimmy Choo). I'm actually happy to spend that much because they're not out and out bridal styles and I'll be able to get a lot of wear out of them after, so IMO £470 for shoes I could wear 100 times isn't bad at all

Well mine cost me a massive bouquet of thank you flowers because a friend has given me theirs for nothing! Absolutely gorgeous. But when i was looking at buying my budget was £300 - it is not worth buying anything that you can't afford - but with dresses there is no excuse! There are loads of gorgeous and affordable ones no-one should need to spend more than £500 unless that is what they really want to do. xxx

I was absolutely set on a big dress and pure silk, so just the fabric will cost considerably more than £500!

My dress was £500 and is what I wanted to pay. I set down ground rules of what I wanted when I went shopping. It had to be non strapless, something that didn't crease too easily as I'm getting married 130 miles from home, wasn't plain (I don't do bling but too plain wouldn't have looked right on me), no train (not keen lol) - and I had to weigh up the cost against only wearing it once.

For me £500 is perfect as it's the perfect dress, ticks all the boxes - and I get all my alterations included in the price!! I think I definitely stuck gold :-)

Definately not worth getting into debt for. I know its very important but at the end of the day it is one dress that you will wear one day, and surely the money would be better going towards your marriage. You can get gorgeous dresses for really good prices. Mine was an ex sample that had never been tried on so I got it for £299 instead of £799. The bargins are out there if you can find them. I love my dress more than I can say in words and am so excited to wear it.

it depends what your budget is. one person may spend £100 someone else £2000. only you can decide what it the right price. mine cost £795 and i put half of it on my credit card and it was 0% interest so didnt cost me any extra. i just made sure i paid more than the min amount of each month! xx
