This may be a silly question, I get married 13th October 2012, I am a size 20-22 now and I am going on Lipotrim diet nxt week, the doctor has told me I could lose 1 stone per month easy on this diet, so I am thinking I could lose 4 stone for January when I want to hit the sales and purchase my dress, say I get down to a size 16 for January and buy a size 16 dress and than by October I am a size 12 can my dress be altered :)

The general view online seems to be that it can be taken in 2 sizes!
BUT don't forget that you will lose a lot of detail depending on the style!
It's a good idea to talk to the shop that you buy the dress in as, if they are doing the altertions, then they will know what has been achieved before! xx

I would suggest, not to be rude, that if you're a high street size 16 you won't get into a wedding dress 16. I was a size 20 bottoms when I bought my dress and I had to get a size 24 (i think!) because my hips were far too big for the wedding size 20. However my top was a size 16 so the dress was huge on top. Anyway I've lost a bit of weight and I'm now a size 14 top and 18 bottoms and my dress is now huge on me!
But the good news is that the lady I bought mine from said that because of the style of the dress and the fact that it is so plain i.e. not much beading and detailing, that it can be taken in to the size I am now easily and more if necessary.
So basically that means that the top part of my dress is going to be altered by the equivalent of 4 sizes, and the bottom is going to be taken in by the equvalent of 2 sizes.
I would suggest that when you're a size 16, depending on the style, you're likely to need to get an 18/20 dress. If you anticipate needing to get it taken in a lot I would strongly recommend getting a plain ish one as the dress lady said this is why mine can be altered so easily. Have a look in my album if you want to see the sort of thing I mean.

    Hope that helps xxxxxx

my advice would be to NOt aim for a size 12 .....i dont think it is healthy to put that amount of pressure on yourself .....
remember you H2b fell in love with you and loves you as you are now . and what ever diet (or torture) you are on you will come a time when the weight loss slows down , i have recently lost 1st 2lb not by going on any diet but by making sensible choices

you're totally right Lala, a stone a month is an awful lot of weight - is that kind of loss healthy or sustainable? I got distracted by the question and missed the detail about the weight loss. Please don't go overboard, I've lost a stone recently by going on weight watchers. It's slowed down now but that's ok, I asked Adam if he'd be happy if I looked like this for wedding and he said he'd have been happy if I'd stayed the size I was, even though he thinks I look healthier now.
If you're a size 20/22 I'd question whether you need to go on such a drastic diet in the first place - as I said, I was a size 20 and it was never even suggested to me xxxx

I would also say they can only take it down a max of 2 sizes otherwise you would ruin the look of the dress x good luck on your weight loss though x

Thanks for this post Claire. :) And for all the wonderful replies ladies. :) I bought my dress online & I've just collected it from the store yesterday. I bought it based on my current measurements although I want to lose weight. I've had a slightly different problem. I had a mastectomy, reconstruction & other breast surgeries four years ago so my bust size won't change much whatever weight I am. I tried my dress on last night & it does fit me but but I've spent the night worried about how much my dress can be altered as I'm intending to lose at least 3 stone over the course of the year. Thanks again everyone. I now know my dress is the dress for me!!

I think it may possibly depend on the dress, I've had mine altered from a size 14 to a small 8 and it still looks the same. I would ask a professional for advice tbh.
