We have plenty of speeches now and worried it will be too many.... my dad is doing one and my mum - split up when i was little so mum wants to say something too which is fine, best man and then my H2B said he didnt want too as has a stutter and make him too nervous so i said i will do a little one and just thank people for coming. and then today we went over to H2B's dads and he annouced he would like to do a speech on behalf of their family and welcome me to the family, thought this was really sweet but now i have 5 speeches.... is that ok? Phoned H2B's sister earlier and said her dad was doing a speech and she said she will vet it and make sure its not too long as he tends to waffle on but i dont want people bored. Thoughts please? xxxx

aslong as you're happy for them all to do one then i think 5 is fine (just make sure they're not too long!) we're having 4; h2b, best man, my step-dad and my real dad x

Just make sure they all know that there are 5 speeches and ask them to keep the length down. I did go to a wedding where everyone felt the need to do a speech and it really dragged - it was before we ate though so that made it worse as everyone was desparate to eat! If you've got them after your wedding breakfast people are a bit more tolerate of long ones when they've been fed, watered and had a sit down. I'm sure it'll be fine. x

I haven't even thought about speeches yet! But I guess h2b, my dad, BM And my parents are divorced too so imbhoping my mum will say something as she knows what we are like as a couple a lot better than my dad plus he's not really a big speech person!

I think that it doesn't really matter how many people give speeches as long as they are short and sweet :-) x

I think it's fine. I've got the opposite problem. Mum's giving me away but won't make a speech as she's too shy - which is ok with us. So there'll just be h2b and the best man x

I'm with LIzzylou about having the speeches after you've eaten, everyone is much more relaxed, I am thinking of having our speeches after we've all eaten. But will see, H2B & MIL2B think they should be done before, but if I can talk my H2B round (usually do ;) ) then we will prob have ours after. My son is giving me away, and he is doing a speech, my H2B is doing a speech, and I'm hoping my Mam will do a speech too but she said she'd think about it as she may get upset and doesn't want to spoil the day. (we lost my dad to cancer 2 years ago and she's still struggling to come to terms with it)

The number isn't the problem so much as the length. Was at a wedding with two speakers but one spoke for 45 mins... the other for 20. It just wouldn't end... I still have wedding speech ptsd because of it

I would just suggest that if you are going to have that many people giving speeches to give a time limit for them otherwise people will just switch off from it.

Definitely a time limit. If you have nervous speakers, you may be better of doing them before. At my sil2b wedding, the groom, fAther and best man couldn't enjoy the wedding breakfast as they were all so nervous. Xx
