Having a bit of a stress-out over the guest list. We're having a civil ceremony & reception in the same place, but OH has a huuuuge family, and I have a tiny one. I already have 65 people written down for the ceremony/wedding breakfast, and it includes all his aunties/uncles. So does that mean we have to include all his cousins, too? Or shall we just send them an evening invite? (They're all grown up and left home, so it's not like we're splitting up the family for the day).
How many people are you all inviting to your weddings?

we were in the same situation and is was all or nothing so our guest list moved from 125 to 34, with a massive party in the evening, at least thats a current plan.
I was happy to go for about 60 people, but we were afraid by going for middle ground we would offend people.
CommentAuthorClareS
We're having around 60 for the ceremony and reception. We've invitied parents, our brothers, sisters, neices, nephews, family from out of down that have to travel quite a distance and quite a few close friends all to the day do. The rest of the family are all for the evening. I'm sure somebody won't be happy once the invites go out lol. I'm expecting a backlash after not inviting any of my dads side of the family, oops. At the end of the day, it's your day, invite people who you want for your reasons. If you're paying for it all then don't be bemotionally blackmailed into inviting family relics or parents friends from way back when if they're nothing really to do with you lol

We are having just under 50. I did want it to be just close family only, but my family is a lot bigger than H2B's. But as he cant just pick one of his best friends to be best man, he's having 2, plus he also another best friend who is a girl and want her to do a reading as they see there relationship like they are brother and sister. Plus they all come with there partners and children too. My mum is one of 6 and I'm only inviting my 2 aunties who I'm see more of. My dad is 1 of 3 and I'm a lot closer to my dad's side so both my auntie and uncle will be coming. I'm not inviting cousins. They are all invited to the evening reception. It costs far too much to pay for them all to be at the wedding breakfast.
CommentAuthorPumyra
We're looking at about 85, thats 30 from mine and the rest from his family/friends (his family is pretty big) proving to be a bit of a nightmare money and venue wise, but i'm determined to have all the people we love there!!
CommentAuthorMrsK2b
At the minute it's 80 to the day and about 120 to the evening do. Im not having any children to the day as it would be mostly children and we don't want that. We are having cousins as we are both really close to ours but their children will only be coming to the evening. Let the adults enjoy themselves without the kids.
Cant wait until I become Mrs K

We have 160 for the day but we both have big families. With us loving in Scotland and my family being English I personally don't think it would be fair to take them over 600 miles just for the evening. Not even done my evening list yet :-s xxx
CommentAuthorGazza 122
weve got 90 for the day (max capacity for our venue..thank goodness!) and then up to 120 in eve xx
CommentAuthorcally
Our capacity for the daytime is 40 and that includes h2b, my two daughters and myself, so we were restricted which is a good excuse not to invite people who are not around in our lives all the time. There is around 120 evening guests altogether though x
It's great to say i get married this year September 1st 2012
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
170 in the day and another 45 for the night - so far we've had about 160 RSVP for the day and 41 for the night - which is good as our venue capacity is 200!
CommentAuthorKATG
We're in the same boat. We are getting married in scotland so I have just invited my closest family and friends, as they will have to travel from vairious places in England, and they will go to everything. He has huuuuge family in scotland and we have his parents, grandparents, siblings and aunties and uncles on his dads side, his 4 best friends. Thats it. 65 to the ceremony and meal and 150 to the evening do. They can like it or lump it x

We are having 32 day and around another 25 for evening. Our venue is only licensed to hold 100 but the manger thinks around 60/70 is a comfortable amount of guest.
CommentAuthoremmaaa
We're having 56 for the day (max venue capacity or it would probably have been a few more!) and probably 120 at the evening. We've just invited aunts and uncles, I have a lot of cousins, my uncles married into other families, and half of them I haven't even met! There are a few of them I'll feel bad about not inviting, but I don't want to deal with the fallout of that! And it means we have 25 family members there between us, instead of 43 (not including partners!) They will be invited to the evening though, whether they'll come or not is another matter!
In the end, adhere to the golden rule, it's your day, if you want them there / don't want them there, it's your decision!
CommentAuthorAntonia9
we are having 90 for the day and evening. I wouldnt say you had to invite the cousins.... its totally up to 1. whether you want them there and 2. if youve even spoken to them recently....

We are having 60 for the day and 80 for the evening. The thing you have to remeber is you are paying for these people to be there. Have the poeple you WANT there and not who you are expected to invite. Its your day after all x

We're looking at 50-60 for the day, and 100-120 total for the evening. He has a tiny family (6 people inc himself and his parents!), mine is a bit bigger. I've not fully finalised who'll get invited and who won't, but I'm thinking aunts and uncles for the day, and cousins for the evening. I think the only child at our wedding will be my niece, at 7, which I'm quite happy about. (I'm not a huge fan of kids) There's going to be some people that will be invited to the whole day purely because of the distance they have to travel to get to us. (My mum's cousin, for example!) We really do need to sit down and work out actual guest lists though. Along with finding a venue to know capacity numbers!!! Lol.

Last time we totted them up it was something like 145 during the day and over 200 total at night... but we're really thinking we need to trim that back somehow! We have the same problem of big families and not wanting to ask people to travel too far for just an evening invitation :( My cousins on my Dad's side have always tended to ask all the uncles and aunts and cousins to the whole day but I don't think we can do that or the figures would be completely bonkers.
