    hi all,

i was just wondering how many bridesmaids/maid of honour people are having? i always thought id have my 3 best friends as bridesmaids and my little girl as a flower girl but me and 2 of the friends arnt very close any more, one of them got married 18 months ago and asked me to be a bm then decided i couldnt anymore and she recently didnt even invite me to her sons christening so i dont feel close to her at all and the other one i rarely see and when we do make plans to meet up she mostly cancels them.

so i feel i would like my closest friend to be my bridesmaid/moh and my little girl as a flowergirl?

    any advice would be great!

    laura xx

you have what feels right and comfortable for you.
My wedding is years away yet so the ladies/girls I have in mind might not want to when it comes to it but I'm looking at having -
2 MOHs - my sister and oldest friend
3 bridesmaids - sister and OH 2 eldest nieces
2 junior bridemaids - youngest sister and OH youngest niece
and 2 flower girls - my daughter and step daughter
    :)
we'll hopefully have 4 ushers and a best man as well but we dont mind if the numbers are odd x

Hi, I'm only having 1 bridesmaid, my h2bs sister. I don't see anything wrong with just having one, there's no point in asking people if you think they are going to let you down. I'm guessing you wouldn't need the added stress! :)

You don't need a massive entourage in the wedding party, what you're planning is nice. Less hassle in the long run too, having fewer bridesmaids to try to please with outfits & logistics etc.

Just have who you want: no more, no less.

I'm having 4 or 5: my 3 best childhood friends (been friends with one of them since we were 2, the other two since we were 4, and we're still really close); my best school friend (been very close since we were 16); and then possibly my OH's 11 year old cousin (I say possibly because there was a family falling out and we don't yet know if they will be attending; we only decided to invite them literally yesterday).

I would not have people you aren't close to if I were you. I think emotionally it's important to only have those you are very close to; and I also think that practically it makes more sense. It can be tough enough trying to sort out dresses, fittings etc with people you're actually close with; if you have someone who's heart is 100% in it it can be even tougher.

There's nothing wrong with having 2 bridesmaids; and TBH I have WAY too many for the size of our wedding lol. I read somewhere that you should have around 1 bridesmaid per 50 guests; I have 5 and 58 guests lol. There really are no hard and fast rules :-)

Do what you want to do!! It's your wedding and if you don't see her anymore then you don't have to have her just because you might have said you would years ago

Its totally up to you but by what you have said i would just have your one best friend as bridesmaid/moh and your little one as flowergirl because if the other two where that much of best friends you wouldnt feel the need to ask this :/ x

I'm having 1 and that's only because h2b's 14 yr old daugher has never been a bm, if she had of been I wouldn't of had any, you just have to go with what you would like

I am only having 2 bridesmaids- which so far has been brilliant as Idon't have to organise lots of them. They are my best friend and my h2Bs sister. A was going to have 3 (and had told the other one that she would be) but we have grown apart and I hardly see her so I didn't see the point.

I'm having two friends. Big family falling out means im keeping sisters out of it, otherwise, I would have had my sister and niece, 2 friends, and younger niece flower girl. Just have 2 BMs now. Not choosing a maid of honour x

I ad 1 MOH and 2 bms. They were my three best friends! You need people that are going to be reliable and helpful, otherwise they are going to make planning hell!

The more you have, the more it costs, more people you have to organise and it can be a nightmare!

Keep it simple I would say! x

Being a bridesmaid is an honour so only have who you really want to have, whoever means a lot to you now.

I only had my sister as MOH , my best mate as bridesmaid and hubby's niece (now also my niece of course) as flower girl.

Cost may also be a factor, the more you have the more expensive it is.

I'm having 4, my sister and three closest friends. I left it up to my H2B how many ushers he wanted and said I'd pick the same number of bridesmaids. He asked if 5 was too many and I said yes haha so we settled on 4, would have been happy with 2 or 3 but he has brothers who needed to be ushers so it wasn't an option

I agree with having just who you want, no more no less.

I am having 2 bridesmaids. But I don't see anything wrong with having just 1. I always thought I would have 3, but I am very close to the friend I thought would be my maid of honour anymore so I just have my two amazing bridesmaids, no maid of honour as they are both brilliant.

    I have 6 adult bridesmaids.

My CBM is my oldest friend, we have been best friends for 15/16 years!

The other 5 are my sister and my other best friends who I have known for between 10 and 16 years too! Just couldn't choose between them all.

OK, I thought I would only have one (fsil) but my h2b keeps dropping hints about having our niece (his Goddaughter and fsil's child) as flower girl.
The thing is there are another three nieces in the family (plus two boys - all his side) and I'd feel bad including one and not the other three plus we're meant to be having a modest budget of £4-5000. Any suggestions?! :)

I have quite a lot because I've been lodging with a family and wanted the landlady, who's been like a surrogate mother, and her two daughters, plus her best friend as they make a team. Then H2B's sister and my mum's goddaughter, with her little sister as flower girl. You don't have to have lots though, stick to people who are special to you, and if there is only one then that's fine.

I've been called mad, but I'm having 8 Bridesmaids.

As other folk have said, just go with the amount you are comfortable with; when I was deciding I was initially just going to have my twin sis as MOH, my other sis and my OH sister too but when I really thought about it, I always pictured myself with a whole team of bridesmaids so I asked 4 of my best friends and my cousin too. Totally chuffed :)

Also, I suppose it could come down to money; the only reason I was able to have so many was because the dresses I wanted are only £45 each :)

H2B is having quite a lot of groomsmen too, best man, 2 ushers & our 3 boys as pageboys (well oldest is an usher).

Emma it's your wedding - if you only want the one bridesmaid and no flower girls etc thats your choice. if the mum wants her daughter to feel special she can get her a pretty dress - its not your responsibility. i dont understand why your h2b is dropping hints about one and not the others - i know you said hes godfather but still xx
