First off, decide which have priority to you: the day, the people or the photographs. The answer is probably all three of course.

For the formal, group shots I always tell couples to allow 1 - 2 hours time between events, but actually we'll be shooting for about 30 minutes probably. Why, because if you're doing your formals straight after the service - which is the norm, everyone wants to say hello, give you kisses, cry, smoke, drink - it just takes a while to settle down.

For the couple portraits, I sneak the two of you off for some nice romantic images, I usually allow 30 minutes - because organising two of you is easier than organising a herd of cats!

If you want to leave the venue, and/or stop off at an alternative venue between service and reception then I'd allow maybe an hour plus whatever travelling.

These are just guidance from me. Your photographer may vary, talk to them about how much time they feel comfortable with.

What I have noticed though is the temptation to cram the time in really tight - and then watched bridal couples feeling hassled about their day - even driven by the timetable - rather than being relaxed and enjoying it all.

    Trust me - you won't get bored ! :)
