Just wanted your opinions again- how important are your invitations? How long are you spending making them or choosing them? Are you spending much on them? Do they fit your theme or are they just a means to an end?

They were very important to me as it set my whole day.

We spent about 9 months making them, I didn't do it every weekend it was only once a month, they also set my theme (which is Burnt orange and butterflies)

I think in total we spent about £100, this includes table plan, ladies favour boxes, cupcake boxes x 75, table names, menus, day invites x 80 (including parents), evening invites x 70 and Confetti Cones.

We also done all the RSVP, box envelopes for the invites, envelopes for the RSVP and Gift poem

We will also be making the thank you cards out of the same card.

    I think that's everything.

Personally I think they're very important (for more than just the obvious reason of providing all the information !)
It's the first thing anybody is going to see that is related to your wedding.. Ours match our wedding perfectly and IMO give off the classy but simple feel we want for our wedding and they match all of our other stationary too - StDs, OOS, RSVPs... Xxx

I made all mine for about £100 including thank you cards as I had enough card and other bits left over

they are really important as it tells everyone your theme and also the details of the day.

you can make it stretch quiet far if you buy all your bits from a wholesaler

shop around as a lot of places such as bay of e offer hand made invites for a reasonable rate if you spend time looking.

I've based mine on invitations to Tiffany & Co. (the jewelers) soirees and events, so they are simple to create but very elegant. They are classy and classic but very inexpensive as they don't require embellishments. I sent my Save The Dates out in PDF in attempt to save money and get people's postal addresses and get them online and using our website (because we're gonna try and use it as our main form of RSVP to save the guests postage and so hopefully they'll reply sooner! Also for them to get a lot of local and on the day info from it to save us loads of repeat conversations as we're both very busy!) You can do them inexpensively. Remember, it's one per family/couple... not necessarily one per person so you can do them yourself for less than £1 easily!

I do think they are important, but not THAT important. People will bin them. I'd rather spend more money on my dress, the food and entertainment!

We made our own and I think I agree with most of the other ladies that they are important in that they are the first impression of your wedding that a lot of people get, and can really set the tone. I also agree with Valentina that there are better things to spend money on!
We saw some we liked but they would literally have cost about £7 per invitation once we included RSVP cards, envelopes, guest info cards etc., so we just made our own version. I think for 150 invitations (bearing in mind couples get one between them and we did the evening invitations too) we spent about £220 in total on card, envelopes, print cartridges, ribbon and postage. I was really chuffed when we'd done them, it was very satisfying. Since sending them, lots of people have said they were lovely and where did we get them made so that's been really lovely to hear!

I have been making all of our stationary and have kept to our colour scheme of Cadburys Purple and butterflies however, I have left the Betty Boop and Poker aspect of our theme off the invites so there is still an element of surprise. I have just realised how mix match our theme sounds lol. We are only using the Betty Boop and Poker aspect for our table names lol.

I'd say they are important not only for the info but perhaps for the colour scheme as some ladies like to know the colour scheme in order to avoid looking like one of the Bridesmaids.

They don't have to be expensive, all of our stationary bits have cost about £120 and that includes place names, invites, Save The Dates, Post Box, Table plan, favour bags and tags for the favour bags.

I have made my own invites and looked around on the internet for ages before deciding on what sort of style I wanted to create. I think they are important as this is the first thing people will see about your wedding. I'm sure I could have got someone to make me something for cheaper then what I made them for but I love the fact its all my own work and creation and no one will have the same invites as I have. We don't have a theme but they fit in with my colours perfectly and altogether with place cards, safe the dates, table plan, name place cards and table number I will have spent about £200.

They were very important to me because it set an example and expectation for the day. It took me hours to make my invitations and I've heard so many positive comments about them, especially on how professional they look. I spent £30 on the materials and they matched the colour theme very well. I wrote the messages inside the invites too.

Very important to me, im making my own in the shape of the TARDIS in blue card. It gives most of the guests the first clue of the theme and sets a precident for the day.

Really important to me and I knew I would have to have them made by someone else because I'm just not creative enough or patient enough to do it myself without it looking rubbish lol. So mine were over £2 an invite but they are 5 page luggage tag style and beautiful :)

I think they are important because they set the tone for the event. Not only do they let guests know about the when and where of the event, they also let guests know the level of formality of the event.
That said there are a lot of options for invites from fancy letterpress to online invites. I've looked into online invites and I am really tempted, especially as many sites have built in RSVP features.

I have to agree with everyone else, they were very important to me. They are the 1st thing people see to do with your wedding and normally sets the tone like colours etc. Mine were the first thing I ordered. I wouldn't know how much I've paid for them but ,my total stationery cost has come to about £680.

They are important to me. I hand made each invite and finally sent em all out last week

    However... I need some advice.

    I live with my h2b
Dad lives alone near my flat
My sister lives in oxford with her little 2 yr old daughter.

I have had my dad round showing me the invite from his nephew, which is my cousin.

The invite says 'fathers name' naomi (me) and 'sisters name'

We dont live together and they have put three names on there. No h2b name or sister daughter?

They are getting married abroad as well so iv no idea how to take that invite? I feel its rude??? Or am I reading too much into it?!!!

Personally I don't think that they are that important, most people will look at them once, put the date on the calendar and then throw them away! As long as all the information is in it then I don't think how they look matters too much, but that is just my personal opinion.

Naomi could it be that his nephew doesn't know that you have a partner or your sister has a daughter? Or maybe they are restricted on numbers and didn't have a big budget so doing a joint invite to the three of you made it cheaper for them? I wouldn't take it personally, I don't think they have purposely done it to upset you xxx

Linzi jo thanks for ur reply however my cousin knows me very well. We live down the same street and were all a "close family" with everyone constantly mixing. Im restricted on numbers but I dont put all names on one invite like he has. He knows my h2b and he has photos with my sisters little girl. Tbh. I think he is being funny when its a huuuuuuugggggeeeeeeeeeeeee wedding with his parents friends all going. They are providing the ceremony and we are paying for our own wedding meals as we are going to some random restaurant.

Tbh, not massively important to me...obviously I wanted them to look nice, as it's the first impression people get of the day, but to be honest I can't remember what most invites I've received even look like. I certainly wouldn't get overly stressed about them...xx

Thanks ladies. My friend is an artist and is designing mine for me so they will be unique, I was just really interested in the POV of everyone.
I saw some invitations on a website which I really liked of a bride pulling a groom and my cake topper will be themed the same as it is widely known that I wear the trousers :) so she is creating something similar but the background will be of our church/ reception venue and she will add purple tie, flowers etc so that everything is tied together.
