I don't know if its just me or am I really to early if I start looking at venues already? What is the best time to do so and how far ahead should I book the venue? As I have friends who are saying its far to early to look into those things... but as I wanna get married on a set day which is even going to be a saturday I'm guessing that they fill up quite quickly!? Please let me know :) thanks

Find out the dates for their open days, this means you can visit them and see them set up for a wedding. It will give you a clearer idea if it is what you are looking for.

thanks JaeSin :) this is probably to late for the 1st appointment but will be still ok i guess :)

get looking now! We booked ours at the beginning of October last year for May 2012 and they only had 2 Saturdays in May left by then! So we booked ours 20 months before and we got the same comments, but like I said, they only had 2 saturdays left so if we'd left it any later we probably wouldn't have gotten May at all. Book it, book it!! :o)

We are getting married in May 2013. I though it was too early to plan anything for it, but after chatting with friends, I emailed 4 possible venues, two of which only have one Saturday left in May 2013 and already have loads of dates booked 2014! We are going to view them next weekend so hopefully it has not been left too late to get the date we want. So as everyone else is saying book it asap!

we booked 2 years in advance as it is a popular venue. It is not too early. You should be looking now to decide what things you like and what you dont and then if you book early you avoid disappointment. On the other hand, if you leave it really late you can get amazing deals e.g. a castle normally was 15k, down to I think 5k with one month until the date. I am not that brave though.
cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo

We're marrying August 2014; we've booked the venue already lol. Reasons for booking so early were:
I'm starting a PGCE in Sept which I'm doing full-time as well as working part-time; I'll then hopefully be teaching come Sept 2012, so, the next 2 years are going to be mega busy and stressful without added worried and pressures of venue-hunting, which I found really time consuming
Our venue fixed their prices, so we got a good deal
Because I'll be teaching, we're basically tied to the school holidays, and because we want to honeymoon a week after, we're tied to beginning of August. Because we can't be flexible, the latest I'd have booked would have been 2 years before; a lot of venues I looked at had bookings as far ahead as 2013, and were very full for summer Saturdays both this year and next year
The cons of booking early IMO are:
The venue could change; we've picked our venue for it's luxurious decor, so if they decide to change it and cheapen it, we'll have to cancel and book something else, and potentially lose money
We can't get insurance until next summer
In the current economic climate, some companies are going bust and being taken over (so again, there could be changes we don't like that force us to cancel)
Thing is though, the cons apply booking 2 years or even 1 year in advance, nothing is guaranteed, so we've gambled and are hoping for the best

Oh god... I looked at the first venue yesterday in the brochure it was amazing... its still nice but dont get the feeling its the right one... as i thought i might love it as much as on the pictures... it had his own style but think it wasnt quite right something was missing...
next viewing today in a different venue... colleague of mine recommended it but i'm scared i'll love it so much as it is quite expensive ...
