I everyone! I am new here and wondering if anyone can give me some advice regarding searching for venues... I think I have a general date for the wedding- June/July 2012. Looking at venues will be the first of the wedding planning so it is all new to me!

I've been searching the forums, the site and looking on the internet. I've found loads of venues in London, but I can't seem to easily search by price ranges... I've downloaded loads of brochures, contacted a few places and the ones that have come back have been way out of my budget!

Soo my question is how can I find venues that are in my price range without me going absolutely crazy?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you looking for a venue for both ceremony and reception, or just the reception?

Most places I looked at had their prices on the website, so at least I didn't have to keep ringing around. I didn't find any listings according to price, so I just used to search the net for venues in my area, and have a look at the websites.

I think I will end up buying a few different magazines. The one I bought didn't really have any info regarding venues but had quite good budget and planning info...

I'm looking at a venue for both ceremony and reception. Still trawling the net for prices :)

unfortunately they don't put prices on websites often because then they can be easlaly undercut. you will have to phone them and find out.
you need to work out what you want from your venue and then go in with a clear plan.
If its budget wedding it can be cheaper to higher a village hall and get catorors in or even do a bring and share meal. one friend in watford hired a school hall for her wedding which was ace.

Whereabouts in London are you looking for venues? I know what you mean about prices, but you just have to keep looking! But some places were surprisingly reasonable, despite looking like they would charge the earth! I agree with Emsy5000 - a hall and get caterer's is what we're now looking into - google for community centres/halls in your local area. x

I haven't narrowed down or ruled out any areas in London yet... Trying to keep my options open. I'm not having a budget wedding per se... I am cutting costs (planning to anyway!) by not really worrying about flowers/centerpieces etc. But I would like to have a cheap(ish) venue so I can invite *everyone* we want to. Both my fiancee and I have large families and we want to invite all family plus friends. Most of my family won't be able to make it, so that will reduce numbers dramatically!

I guess I'll just be happy emailing loads of places. And the internet searching will give me something productive to do in my free time for a change!!

We were looking at London, Essex and Kent venues. We found a website that listed the venues in those areas. Then we made a spreadsheet and colour coded them (red - no, yellow - maybe, green - yes). From this we narrowed down hundreds of venues to about sixteen. Then we sent for their brochures and again, narrowed it down to what was within our budget (I think on average you should roughly allocate 40 - 60% of your overall budget to your reception). Then we went to see the six that matched what we wanted and decided from there.

Whereabouts in London are you looking?

have u tried the search engines on the internet? i dont like how some of them wont give u a price on the website until you've either been round or rang them in person, i do think they should give u a roundabout figure...so if its gonna be way out of budget u dont get ur heart set on it!

If you go to the registry office they will give you a book of all the places you can legally get married at and you can then start your search from there. If you border on more than one country make sure you get them for each district to widen your search up. I found loads more venues in their books than what I found on the lists on the internet.

I vaguely remember a website that gives a list of venues and for some of them, gave an indication of the costs per person...

    I'll have a quick look...
