hi wondering if anyone can help me.
how do i put in my invites that if any guests want to get us presents that we would like money instead. as we dont need anything for the house and the money can go towards honeymoon. i dont know how to word it as i dont want it to sound cheeky.
is there anyone out there who has any ideas would be great.
    thanks

I would just ask. My friend in her wedding invites said...."we don't expect presents from you, but if you would like to contribute to our house/DIY fund that would be greatly appreciate"

They did quite well out of it. You could word a similar thing but obviously base it around your Honeymoon, to start off your married life on the best possible foot etc.....

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

We went to a evening Reception in December and in the invite there was just a slip of paper saying- that their house was full but if you would like to make a contribution towards their honeymoon then that would be appreciated. We didn't find it cheeky at all much less fussy than buying a present!

Hay hun if you use the search button above and put in money poem and push the comment bit rather then topic loads of threads will pop up that have loads of different wording for this type of thing!

    Ours is..........
We lived together before this wedding
So we have a home, full of toasters and bedding
So what to get for the bride & groom
Whose house is set up in every room?
To save you looking, shopping and buying,
Here's an idea you might like trying!
We need new mattresses for us and the kids
and a sofa to sit upon too,
But registering for huge items isn't the thing to do
So please put some money into a card,
Now make a wish.... see, that wasn't hard!
Now we've saved you all the fuss,
We hope you'll come and celebrate with us!
A wishing well will be at the reception hall
To deposit your wishes... Thanks and love to you

    hope that helps

we are sending out this invitiation
and hope you will join our celebration
if to send a gift is your intention
in modesty we would like to mention
we have already got a kettle and a toaster
    crockery, dinner mats and coasters
so rather than something we have already got,
please give us money for our saving pot
    but, most importantly, we request,
that you turn up as our wedding guest

i have found some greats ones on goggle.
this is the best one soo far

    In a wedding invitation,
    You usually find some lists,
    For venues, menus and hotels,
    And also for the gifts

    But this one is unusual,
It comes in a different way,
As we’re not asking for presents,
    But for something else today

Now please don’t think we’re selfish,
Or that this comes from greed,
But we’ve lived together for a while,
So there’s not that much we need

    We would appreciate help though,
To send us on our way,
And allow us to have our honeymoon,
In a land quite far away

So now the point of all this rhyme,
The thing that we would like,
    Isn’t towels, toasters or microwaves,
    But pounds and pence alike

And now you know the reason,
    Behind this cheeky accord,
Please help to give us memories,
    Of a dream honeymoon abroad.

This is a great post we were having the same problem as we've lived together for years so have everything we need and more. The poem idea is good as it has everything you would want to tell them about why your asking for money but cut down and made alot easier to say. Brilliant advice as alway xx

I chose this 1 and had them printed at 123print to put in with the invites, cost £30 for 100 postcard sized with pics on the other side!

We do not have a wedding list
    Nor requests for certain things
All we want Is your company
And the memories the day brings
A financial gift would be lovely
    An appreciated help to us
But please do not feel pressured
As this is not a must
The choice is really up to you
And we would like to say
We hope you come enjoy yourselves

    I have used this poem....

We haven’t got a wedding list,
    The reason we’ll explain,
Is to save you all the hassle as shopping is a pain,
We’ve been together for a while,
And have most the things we need,
So vouchers, cheque or cash would be gratefully received.
The choice is yours so please don’t fuss,
The most important thing of all,
Is that you celebrate our day with us.
But, if you would like to contribute,
To our soft and cosy rooms,
Our heartfelt thanks go out to you,
With Love, The Bride and Groom

    Gift List
As many of you are travelling afar,
It may be hard to fit a gift in the car,
We don't have a gift list, we don't want presents,
All we ask of you all, is to give us your presence.
But if you wish to still give us a gift,
We'd love you giving our honeymoon fund a lift.

We are going for one of these:

To our Dear Family and Friends,
We know it's not traditional and it's not the way it's done,
But instead of a wedding list, we'd like a bit of sun!!!

We've lived together quite a while and all the bills are paid,
So we didn’t really fancy being bought a teasmade!

So if you'd like to give a gift, to send us on our way,
A donation for our honeymoon, would really make our day!

    or..

We are sending out this invitation,
And hope you will join our celebration
If buying a gift is your intention
May we take this time to mention
For some time we have lived in sin
We have a toaster and a bin
So rather than something we have already got
We would appreciate money for our honeymoon pit
    But most importantly we request
That you come to our wedding as our guest

We’ve been asked what we’d like for a gift and the answer is simple: you, at our wedding, having a great time.

please find within this poem, information just for you,
with some rules and regulations, that we both insist you do.

Save the date of November 26th, is the first thing to say,
to share the love and happiness, on our wedding day.

The second one is vital, if you’re to be our guest,
to eat drink and be merry, or do your very best.

The third rule can be broken, we really do not mind,
but if you choose to follow it, thank you for being kind.

We’ve been together for a few years, and have a lovely home,
there are not too many items now, we don’t already own.

So if you’re thoughts were on a gift, your presence will suffice,
but if you really feel the need, then money would be nice.

The choice is really up to you, and we would like to say,
we hope you come, enjoy yourself, and have a lovely day!

Me and h2b are asking for donations for our wedding via Bottom Drawer where people go online to donate money to our honey moon.

Don't feel cheeky about asking because a) you dont want people getting you things you dont want and b) most people want to get you something or give you money for your wedding, but they might not know how to ask you. so if you put it in the invite then its up to the guests to do what they want to do, most guests Im sure will appreciate being told what you do want rather than having to guess and feel like they have wasted £50 on something you're never going to use.

I might pinch one of these poems though! thanks Gals!!

Ok, my h2b finally got round to printing out the final wedding invites/additional info. I wrote down my ideas and then he jiggled it around and altered it to sound better (he's better with words than me lol). So, on our details he has put:

"we are not having a wedding list, but if you would like to donate to Kath's emergency escape fund, please do so using an account Kath's mum is overseeing - we will never see the details of the account so there is absolutely no pressure to use it - we stress that any gifts are truly optional! It would be more than enough to simply have you share our special day with us"
I have given the invites to my family and they all thought it was fine so hopefully it will go down ok with everyone else :-) What do people think?? Would love to hear your opinions, even if you don't agree with what we have done lol. Xxx

I'm so glad to see so many other people asking for money. Like many others on here, we already live together so don't really need anything "housey", when we were sorting out our invites I googled to find a nice poem and all that came up was a whole load of forums/sites saying how rude it was asking for money, and it was as if you expected presents, and even if you put it in a nice poem it was still rude. I got really paranoid so ended up asking my mum and the bridesmaids for thei opinions and they all said people expect you to include gift list, so to ask for money was ok.
We used one of the poems mentioned above, and so far no one has said they think we're rude, and so far no one has declined our invite, so hopefully we haven't offended anyone!!!
