    Hi all ,

Spent afternoon going through brochures of a number of places we have visited and each one has been nice and some if a mate was telling me about them I would think wow sounds like my kind of place ,however each one we have seen even though they are really nice it's like something quite isn't there .
I thought it was just me but H2B feels the same . We think it is due to some places being too wedding ish now before anyone says well duh it's wedding venues I mean as in even though we will make it our day they feel like one size fits all kinda place . Does that make sense ? It does to me but I am a bit loopy lol

So my question for you lovely people is how did you know your venue was the one ?

It was like the dress, once you find it, you just know!
So hard to explain but it literally just ticks all the boxes & you cant imagine having your day anywhere else!

This is from a couple that must of looked at over 15 venues before finding our venue, on our doorstep practically that Hubby had avoided looking at for an age due to thinking it was too posh!

I loved our venue just from the website so we saw this venue last. As soon as we walked in we both LOVED the venue and it just didn't have what the other venues had and this was just whilst we were sitting in the library waiting to meet the lady our viewing appointment was with. The lady (Vicki) was lovely and that also helped and was a big factor in us loving the venue. The price was a MASSIVE factor too. It was also just such good value for money and included things that other venues didn't or were willing to do that other venues weren't such as telling us they would move the chairs so we only needed to get 1 set of chair covers whereas other venues told us to get 2 sets.

I also felt gutted when the venue didn't have any of our original dates available. But loved the venue so much that the date (within reason) was then not so important as the venue.

We went to our venue expecting it to be way out of our budget! As soon as I saw it I felt so emotional and we could both imagine getting married there! We'd visited at least 16 before it and just hadn't had that feeling! Xxx

We looked at a few- some stunning ones that were out of our price range. When we came across the hotel we've picked it was the wedding planner herself that sold me. She's so lovely and calming that I just thought she'd be an amazing person to have help plan our day. The hotel was set up for a wedding the day we went and it looked beautiful. Also, it was one of the few venues that was withon our price range and also had some grounds and nearby lakes for photos. Ultimately it was a balance between what's affordable, what feels comfortable and the people that will be involved x

I guess we just 'knew' as it felt right - we could see our wedding there. We only looked at 5 venues from looking online, the one I loved from pics online just had the wrong 'vibe' when we viewed it, whereas as soon as I walked into our venue I loved it. It didnt really tick the boxes of what I thought I wanted (big old country house) but thats why its so nice, its not what even I expected and the location and price is great!

We looked at a fair few and fell in love with one and I felt that there was no other competition however we then went to see one last one (I nearly cancelled the appointment) and it was such a close second to my favourite one but was half the price! Once we found that out we just knew! They are so accommodating, the wedding planner is lovely and responds to my endless emails do quickly! We are do glad we kept that appointment! x

We'd looked at one and h2b fell in love, but I had my reservations so booked to view one that we thought was out of budget. Got there and fell in love, we just knew it was the one. And it worked out under budget :)

As others have said, you just know! I was worried we were too hasty so we didn't book and went to see loads more venues, then went back a month later taking my parents, I was a nervous wreck the whole way there thinking I will have bigged it up too much in my head and wouldn't like it as much, but I did! We just both knew it was the one and booked then xx

Hey, for me, I just wanted a niceish room that I could put my stamp on, that wasn't too far from the church and that I could get the right catering and also not spend a fortune on the venue hire and that bar prices were reasonable for the guests...
well I got a masonic lodge thats been renovated as we speak in neutral colours with some updates and modernisation.... with masonic visiting members lodge rates at the bar... with the caterer I wanted at special rate... and venue hire free! I'd have loved the whole grand castle thing, but really, for the money, I cannot complain!

We both wanted to get married and have our reception in the same place so were limited. I had fallen in love with our venue looking at pics. When we actually went there, we both walked away and hubby said, well we are not looking anywhere else. We both just fell in love,

We went for what we were looking for check list. Q1. Is it beautiful? Q2. Does it have rooms for family? Q3. Can I have the whole day there? Q4. What is the price like and what does it include? and so on.

Make sure you ask Q1 to yourself first before you get anyone else's opinion because everyone is an individual.

    Hope this helps x

We looked at our venue the first time we were planning in 2010 and forgot about it cause the brochure was scary expensive.. But in February this year we were told it had changed hands and was a beautiful, inexpensive venue now.. It's literally 1 minute drive from our house and funnily enough had a wedding fair a week later ! We went and checked it out and as soon as I saw the reception room I fell in love, I then found out we were allowed real candles and fell in love all over again :-) and theeeen went home and looked through the brochure and it was absolutely perfect prices and for what we get its a steal !!! Also as I was oh so excited at the venue our song, the song that will be our first dance, came on the speakers :-) Fate fate fate :-)

We won a luxury night there from a draw we entered that night, we walked around the grounds the night we stayed and I could imagine floated round them in my dress with H2B :-) xxx

I think for me everything just felt right at our venue...... I could picture myself walking down the aisle to meet my gorgeous OH and I could just visualise the picture of us under the big old ceadar tree in our wedding clothes. :)
If you can imagine ourselves there and it feels right then I think you've found it !!
    Good luck!! xxx

We chose our reception venue for convenience. H2B's sister is severely disabled, and when she visits him in Cardiff she always stays in one particular hotel, as the hotel can help her to hire the equipment she needs and they provide everything she needs. We decided to have the reception at this particular hotel, as it reduces the need for taxis (the church is walking distance, even for someone pushing a wheelchair), and if she needs to be taken up to her room by her carers to be freshened up she won't need to miss much of the reception. We did have some specific things that we wanted, but they were fairly standard and the venue ticked all the boxes. Plus the wedding co-ordinator wasn't phased when we said that we have a guest who is gluten intolerant and one who has a real phobia of trying new food, so has a very restricted diet. She said that it would be fine to provide something different for her.

As for the church, there were two choices, my church or his. There was never any question of looking at other churches. It came down to the fact that his church can seat more people, is all on the level whereas my church would have the ceremony upstairs (and you can guarantee that would be the day that the lift would break down), and is a traditional stone anglican church so looks much better.

we chose our venue after we had a viewing and then costing sent to us. We cannot find anythign we do not like about our venue. we were a little worried to begin with as the price was higher than we would have liked but we knocked the price down to £5k and got some extra on top and signed the contract. I can't imagine getting married anywhere else now and even then if i had nto of got that venue i would have cried xx

i think my dad and H2B's auntie mentioned our place but said that its really expensive but nice. so i booked an appointment anyway as we would be in the area the same day as viewing my dream castle venue. so we went to the castle in the morning - it was lovely but soooo expensive - i left feeling really downhearted and H2B said that he would find someway to get it if i really wanted it but at £8000 just for venue for a monday/tuesday wedding it was just a bit ridiculous.

so afternoon appointment came and i still felt a bit down after dream venue being so expensive and we turned up at our venue and even though the person was 20 mins late we sat in the bar and enjoyed the free drinks. after being shown around we fell in love with this room with gold spiral staircases and it was really lovely. then the best bit was the price! £3999 for 60 day guests and 120 evening guests including food drinks and things like that. out of all the venues we looked at it was the cheapest and the best one we looked at - it was even better than the so called 'dream' venue (which had dance floor and bar in a separate room). we just sat there and looked at each other and said this is our venue and booked a date. we kind of just knew and havent seen any other venues that compare.

sorry if this doesnt help you but for us it was an easy decision. you have some time so maybe go for a second viewing or have a look at some other places? perhaps a little further away? our venue is 30 mins away from church but it gives us a lovely drive on our own on the day so we get some time to ourselves xx

I just chose mine because its where my deceased grandparents had their golden wedding anniversary party when I was about 10 and I always dreamed of having it there since then. I love the gardens etc.
We were originally planning on marrying there too though but when we went and saw the room set up we knew it didnt feel right and went with a church wedding first although if the weather were guaranteed we would have married outside.

When you go there, you just know. I told my fiancé this is it, he said no, we've only looked at one other place, I said this is where I'm getting married! I had to humour him and find more venues to look at, just to prove the point that the one we BOTH loved was right.

We've been back 3 times since with family etc. love it!

The venue we are actually having. My H2B said no to when we were going through the brochures but the events coordinator kept on emailing me so I thought lets give it a go just to see. I absolutely fell in love with it, so did my mum and my MOH. Took the OH back the next week and he agreed! Its not what I thought I would have gone for but I just loved it! Everytime I talk about it I get so excited! You will know when you walk in! xx
