Hi all, Me again, How did everybody choose a theme for their wedding? I'm stuck on the whole theme idea, We are going to be getting married in April 2012 so apart from having an easter theme i don't really have much inspiration.......Would it be possible to rack your brains for some ideas please?? xx
CommentAuthormrs pinkalice
i didnt start with a theme as such, just picked some colours then knew i wanted roses as the flowers. then found my tiara/headband which has crystal flowers on so i've decided to go with a flower theme, name the tables after roses etc. my dads a gardener and he loves flowers particularly roses so as he's paying for half the wedding thought it would be a nice thank you to him xx

I just found myself drawn to birdcages, and given the colours we'd gone for (pink and green) and the fact we were having a marquee and afternoon tea it all just fed into place. I've birdcage table numbers, birdcage favour boxes and large birdcage for cards and gifts. We've also got a bit of a topiary theme with large topiaries for the centrepieces and baby heart shaped topiaries as placecard holders. Very country and cute!

I loved the little loveheart sweets that had "just married" on them and the pinkish coloured wrapper... ended up doing my theme round that...weird eh!
CommentAuthorCupCake
My theme is butterflies .. I've always loved them and it made sense to have them at the wedding ... I'm having quite a floaty light dress in blush pink .... everything will be kept in light pink, white, and silver. I love organsa, tulle and very soft looking things xx
My OH made all the decisions on themes etc! ;) We were inspired after we went to visit a venue who offered afternoon tea in between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast and as we are tea fanatics, it seemed perfect to go for a 'tea' theme!

going by your forum name, what about butterflies for you? There's lots of lovely butterfly things around at the moment! Is there anything that people know they can always buy you as a present? One of my friends i know anything hello kitty and she'll love it or anything with butterflies or giraffes. Another friend loves the 2 me bears and another loves disney. Maybe that would suggest a theme for you? what do you have in your home that you love? can you build a theme from them? favourite film or tv show? Something that your h2b loves like football teams? what about something around where you got engage or where you live?
other suggestions would be look round the craft shops and see what you like there, go to wedding fairs and open days and type weddings on ebay and see what comes up that you like!

My sister said to me as i am getting married in 2012 to have an olympic theme?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! i couldnt quite get my head round how to do that so just stuck with my red theme lol. theres another option for all you Kooks though lol xxx
CommentAuthorNicci
We originally started with a red theme as it was our fave colour but because we are getting married at Carlisle Utd i didnt want the colours to clash in the pics (sad i know) so we changed it to Carlisle Utd blue. Im really pleased we did as the colour is fab-really striking. My BMs will be wearing bright blue dresses and my h2bs wedding party are getting cravats made to the exact carlisle colour. So our theme has turned out to be Carlisle United! lol x

Basically, by knowing I didn't want flower bouquets..I wanted something different and less flower killing! lol
Soooooooooooooo I plumped for feathers and Peacock feathers are my fave (so beautiful in colour/design - nature is a wonderful thing!) .... so the 'Peacock' theme for the wedding was borne...

I was racking my brains for weeks and months then one day went shopping and saw the flowrgirls dress on the sale rail for a tenna and i have based my theme around the colours. i also looked at flowers and couldnt decide what flowers to have so i decided not to have flowers an having feathers and beads instead. so i based it on that and everything seems to be lovely .

we are having butterflies, as my nan who sadly passed away loved butterflies so we decided on them as she would have loved it bless her x

I choose the color I love which is somewhere between Tiffany blue, Teal and Turquoise. Picked a dark silver to go with it. Then we choose our theme which is childhood memories. Everything in and around our day should make you smile. The favors will be retro sweets in paper bags, transport for guest is a routemaster double decker, we're having a wonky cake to make people smile, lots of little details too. The biggest secret and only me and H2B know is! when we walk out of church as husband and wife, we're going to have the original theme tune to star wars! I can remember so many happy christmases watching those films. It will be traditional right up to that point xx
CommentAuthorKesha
I dont even know if we have a theme! We are having purple and silver, with all things sparkly and butterflies/flowers! Thats it lol
CommentAuthorKat
I hadn't considered a theme until I realised we had agreed on a cake decorated with chemistry bits and pieces since we are both chemists and met in a lab...so I guess chemistry is our theme lol
CommentAuthorShellster90
I asked my h2b and he loves the colour blue so we chose sky blue as that's what we prefer and then I threw in Silver to have a little bit of contrast :) I wanted to include my h2b in something lol :) Our wedding will be in Winter ish so that kind of made our mind up theme wise too :)
CommentAuthorRaquel007
Um I never really picked a theme it sort of found me. I was at a wedding fair and saw feathers in glasses and thought that was really cool, I dont really want feathers so I'm having a pearl and diamond bouquet and my dress has pearls and diamantes on!! So thats how I picked having pearls, diamantes and feathers. I think as you start looking around and seeing venue styles and things it will all fall to place for you. xx
CommentAuthorx~Hails~x
I was going for roses as i loveeeeee them and think the purple ones look amazing and lilac is my fav colour. THEN i found THE dress which has red on it, so now my theme is red, white and roses :-)

Lucie I absolutley adore me to you bears (and butterflies) i found a gorgeous cake topper the other day :) but im not sure how id go about having it as a theme??. Thankyou to all of you for your suggestions. you are all so helpful xx
CommentAuthorNicci
What was the cake topper like? As for me to you bears you could have the blue he has on his nose and maybe silver instead of grey as your colours? Then you could have them in the decor somehow (centerpeices or something?) they are so cute! As for butterflies they give you alot more choice :)
CommentAuthorL JO
I dont have a theme...I'm just having the colours Navy and Ivory in my honest opinion since my first wedding things have got so much more complicated with save the date cards, themes, favours, father and daughter dance etc etc I'm just keeping it simple xx
CommentAuthormrsquinn2b
I don't have a theme! Just got our colour scheme which we are sticking to throughout! in my opinion adding a theme just adds something else to worry about! x
CommentAuthorButterflyDreamer
Nicci, the cake topper was 2 me to you bears dressed as a bride and groom was so cute!! very good idea i have to say :). Butterflies are sounding like great ideas too although i don't want to seem as though i'm stealing other peoples ideas xx

CommentAuthorPuddleduck87
Butterfly have you ever thought about creme eggs for your wedding favours? Or even little nests with a few mini eggs in them? If its in April it might be a cost effective way to have a theme and then you can go for any colour you want too. xxx
CommentAuthorvintage lass
Like some of the girls above I didnt set out to pick theme either initially...it all fell into place once I started looking through magazines! We attended alot of weddings last year so that helped also, helped to eliminate what I didnt want (which is often easier)! I wanted to great a timeless look so that I didnt look back at photies with a screwed up face and say 'what was I thinking????' I love love love Halloween so that was an easy choice in terms of selecting time of year for the day so am having loads of pumpkins, candles and a great big corpse bride wedding cake for the fun of it!!!! I love dressing up at Halloween so decided to have a masquerade reception that night!
You dont have to go to great extremes chick to great a theme as such...touches throughout your flowers, wedding cake, accessories etc will do the job! Only problem is...I started out that way and the theme has practically taken over my life as Ive turned obsessed with every detail now!
CommentAuthorbridetobe1990
me and my fiance are still obsessed with disney films and i call him my prince charming and he says im his cinderella. hence our disney theme which is also white and blue like cinderellas dress but of course as our planning progresses and details decided more and more disney films are being incorporated e.g. famous disney couples as table names, disney couple images on the name cards, alice and wonderland 'eat me' tags on favours, disney balloons for night do with optional disney fancy dress. disney cup cakes for our wedding cake and a white normal cake for top with disney castle. ideas just keep coming and coming
CommentAuthorShellster90
I have a me to you wedding cake topper.. them dressed all weddingy (if thats a word lol) under a arch with bells :) I love it.. :D
CommentAuthorbridetobe1990
that sounds so lovely sharon made me an image for my invites and guest book of minnie and mickey mouse in wedding clothes with our names underneath it is soo lovely lol
CommentAuthorlittle_maus
our theme is along the lines of the secret garden (because we are getting married in a castle) meets alice in wonderland and and a childs whimsical fantacy , with a dash of comedy movies in it , our table center pieces are photo trees we make ourselves from twigs clips and ribbon then clip the pics to out hand made tree, to try cut costs on flowers..... and our table names will be after our fav movies showing a picture of that particula movie poster but ionstead of the actors on it it will be us pasted on top lol i love colour so we are going for green, yellow orange and light pink / red i dont think it has be oneparticular theme so long as all your ideas fuse together an look well , why dont you go for something that captures your eye an imagination?? ... good luck hun anyway xxx
CommentAuthorMrs (Dove) Pidgeon
We did originally have a bit of a star theme, but it onl shows on the invites. Everything else is yellow and purple. Our aim is to just have fun and not worry about every little thing matching.

i went to wedding recently and their theme were fairies! brides dress and bridemaid dresses were fairy like. the flower girls had actual fairy dresses with wings and wands. they had a fairy ice sculpture. fairy lights around the reception room. they decorated the tables with fairy ornaments. it was very magical!!! each bridemaids was a different colour, just like sleeping beauty fairytale
CommentAuthorHelen
We went to look at suits for H2B and ushers, we liked the grey suit with the green waistcoat and cravat, and that was the theme decided, green and silver. Mind you haven't looked for a dress yet !!! Always said i wanted a red dress, but decided that i would go with cream/ivory dress instead but havent been to look, so the theme could change lol
CommentAuthorb2bnicola
My h2b thinks he looks good in gold I quite like plain n simple things so we've went for a gold n cream theme Was really easy actually. xx
Happily Married! :) xxx

Ours is a bit of a mixture, the colours are red, black, silver & white, but our wedding photo album, guest book, cake topper etc are actually from the Me to You range, with me I love gothic things but I am very girly too & love the Me to You bears so we just kind of combined it all LOL, the Me to You stuff we have bought though have silver foil decor on them so it still fits in with the initial theme :)
CommentAuthorangeleyes
Well i have a very scatty brain...my thought process was...I love pink, but H2B hates pink, he likes black...so i thought of red...but found out the room we're getting married in is green so it would look like christmas...so no chance, then thought about pink and black, but MOH hates pink...so just black...then it would be too dark...so thought about making it gothic black on ivory, all lacy and stuff...but then i didnt like the invitation with lace on then so though i like black and white photos...oooh i have photos of our holidays....so EVENTUALLY thought Black and Ivory with Cornwall(first holiday together)/Beach theme. Hence shells, pebbles and Black with Ivory.
CommentAuthorJoolsy
Ours is Dove Grey, Black and White and have a wee heart theme going on :D :D xx

My theme was meant to be Tottenham Hotspur so everything would be blue and white but then I fell in love with a red wedding dress so the theme has had to be dropped! I wouldnt worry about picking a theme until you've got your dress etc

We didn't have a theme as such. We chose the bridesmaids dresses and had that as the color and then went from there.

I was lacking in a theme for ages apart from the colours, but then i had a eureka moment and remembered that i had always loved the film Labyrinth, in particular the Masquerade Ballroom scene! The more i thought of it the more i couldnt believe i hadnt thought of it before!! So now we are having a labyrinth inspired wedding and a masquerade ball for the evening reception!!

I chose ours, because we work at the Fair, so we are having a Fun Fair/Carnival/Circus theme. xx

We're not having a theme as such as we didn't think it neccessary - we're just having a colour scheme to tie everything together. I picked my 3 favourite colours (light blue, lilac and yellow) and let H2B decide which one would be our colour! He chose light blue obviously - so our colours are light blue, silver and white :)
