After a lifetime of being a nail-biter....I have now STOPPED biting my nails and looking forward to having my nails done for the wedding. (stopped biting 3-4 months ago and just dont want to do it anymore, not even tempted).
I am having an american manicure, nothing fancy. (an american manicure is the same as a french manicure, but the tips are ivory instead of pure white). a more realistic colour in my opinion. i might have a little design on my ring finger.....dont know. but i am really excited about having long nails now, after biting them for SOOOOOOOOO long.
I also like pearly pale pink colours but i want the french/american manicure for my wedding day.

What are you girls having done?

I'm trying to stop myself biting the skin around my finger nails. I know it sounds gross but I'm finding it really hard to stop, maybe it's a stress thing?! Work is very stressful at the moment so I don't think that's helping.

I'm planning on french manicure on finers and toes with shellac 'cos it's supposed to last about 2 weeks?

I pick my nails, i'm terrible for it lol.
But I have tried to stop recently and now have a miniscule white part to them ha ha!
I plan to grow them, got 17 months so plenty time to try.
Then we're going to do our own french manicure and put jems on our fingers and sparkly butterflies on our thumbs

For years i tried all sorts of potions.....NOTHING worked. its PURELY willpower that works.
I grew them when i first got my E ring, and they looked really pretty. they wasnt really long, just to the tips of my fingers and looked so nice, and clean. then i had a biting session......leveled them all off and i was so dissapointed in how they looked, since they have re-grown i havent done it again because i can still remember how i felt when i bit them off the last time.

If you havent had Shellac before then I would recommend having a trial a bit before wedding to see if it works for you.

I had it done in August and 48 hours later it was off before I even got off the plane to visit h2b! Very upset. Exact same happened to SIL2B and it was a different salon and technician. That said a lot of people love it.

As long as my nails all behave themselves I will just have a plain french manicure on the day x

oh and Raggedy I bit mine from when I was tiny until I was 26 then literally decided to stop and it was tough but I havent turned back. Even know though after nearly 8 years you can still tell I was a biter as my "free" nail starts very low down my finger if that makes sense.

The feeling of looking at your hands and not having to hide them is priceless though.

I recently had shellacs in a french manicure and they lasted about a week before they started peeling at the tips, but they are lovely! I only paid £15 for the whole set so they are cheap enough to have a trial ( maybe for your hen night?) If you have them done I'd do it the day before the wedding and make sure you wear gloves to wash up etc ... I'm really hard on my nails so I guess thats why they didn't last long. The good thing is your nails grow under them too!

Oooh I've never heard of an American manicure but I think that could be for me - ivory is just so much nicer than pure white! I'm going to have the calgel thing done in the run up to our wedding so that they are my own nails (and I'm used to them by our wedding day), then have an American manicure done with more calgel the day before (was going to be french but American all the way now). I've chewed my nails for years, best they've ever been was when I was pregnant - they were beautiful - but otherwise they're really weak x

I absolutely detest fake nails - with conviction.
The vintage way would be a bit pointy, red and a half moon shape leaving the bottom out.
I don't do long nails as they annoy me - my nails grow very fast. I guess I will have them longer than clipped super short and in any case red - maybe with a half moon.

I'm having acrylics on for the wedding. Although I've managed to find a way of stopping myself biting my nails (just don't tell my boss) if I wear nail varnish I don't bite them however not supposed to wear it at work. I would love to grow mine for the wedding but I know I will break one the morning of the wedding or bite them with nerves.

My nails are really flimsy and break easily, nail polish never says on either it peels off right away. So I'll probably just buy some short falseys to wear on the day. Don't see the point in spending loads of money on nails.

I had acrylics once and although they looked really nice, they felt heavy on my nails ...it was a really weird feeling. anyway went to bed one night and got up in the morning and 3 had fallen off one hand, so i took the rest of them off. I had fairly short nails at the time so they probably didnt have much nail to stick to to keep them on. but that experience told me i dont want acrylics again, because of that weird heavy feeling.
I am actually allowed to wear nail polish at work as i work in an office, but i prefer to just wear clear polish.....and in fact, better than just clear polish, I love to just have them polished and buffed. its a much nicer sheen than having clear polish, but I find if I do it myself, the buffing it doesnt work! so i get my daughter to do it.

LMB, i saw someone with nails like that, red with a half moon free from polish.....but i didnt love it if i am honest.

i have no idea about nails! I don't bite my nails but do usually keep them pretty short as they annoy me when they get long. Mum has bought be a voucher for a manicure the day before the wedding, but I don't really know what to ask for when it comes to what they'll look like in the end! Do brides usually have a french manicure? thats when the tips are white, right? I'm useless!!!

I used to be a biter too and stopped 9 years ago now and it was the best thing ever. Your nails will be very brittle at the mo so make sure you use lots of nail hardener to make them better. i would get regular manicures leading up to the wedding so they are in the best condition possible.

RA they don't make my heart skip a beat but then no nail art does that. Quite the opposite. I like my nails all clear or red - and nothing else. So as long as they are red I am happy. But this is easily done so it may well appear on my wedding day. I certainly won't buy Dita falsies - as much as I love her :-)

As a beauty therapist, i defo think that stopping bittin ur nails is the best way to stop the skin around the nail, i think if u r more keen on the natural look and want them to be strong then have a natural overlay or shellac , although shellac is really bad for ur nails if u dont remove it properly!

Also a thing they dont tell u is they actually charge u to take shellac of ur nails!

Ever need any ideas or helps message me!! xx

The salon i go to charge £5 to remove them or you can go and buy acitone from the chemist and soak your nails in that for about half an hour an they should come off.
Sara you need to ask for a french manicure, that will give you the white tips or an american manicure and the tips are cream coloured. If you want your nails to look longer you could have acrylic nails which are put on top of your own and filed down to the length you want x

Sara - on Terris pic it looks like a 'french manicure'

    French.jpg
    French.jpg

And if you want it more natural you could ask for the 'american manicure' which is the same but ivory instead of white.

    American.jpg
    American.jpg

If you want this on your own nails or fake gel nails - whatever they are made off - acrylic, shellac (I don't know) is up to you. Best ask for advice in the salon. I have no idea how the price differences are. This is not my thing at all. I had this done once and hated it very soon after but I used to 'french manicure' my nails myself on my natural longer nails. So there is no need to have them fake.

The only thing that helped my nails after i stopped biting them was Nail Magic from Sallys (hopefully thats ok to mention - if not sorry mods!). Its pretty hard to get hold of as they tend to tell you that they dont stock it (when they do!!!). Its about £10 per bottle but its really really good & i have tried just about everything!!! The good thing about it is after you apply the 2 coats its hard to scrap off with your teeth (any nail bitter knows that any sort of polish asks to be scraped off by your teeth!! :D lol) xxx
