Hello! am having dilemas at the moment, what do people think, is it important to have your recpetion at a place people can stay or is it ok to ask people to find their own accomodation??

H2b and I are getting Married in a place where there is no accommodation, It has a farmhouse that can accommodate 12 people, but I dont fancy sharing the weding night with my family! lo. It is in a smal village with lots of hotels around which we are going to put a list in with the invertations, we are also providing a coach for guests that dont want to stay overnight.

If I were you I wouldnt be worried about accommodation for your guests, you dont want that worry over your head to.

We're getting married in a venue that isn't a hotel but does have some accommodation. I know it isn't a popular thing to say, but I don't really like a lot of hotel weddings. In my role as a vendor, I come across a LOT of hotel wedding coordinators who genuinely do not care in the slightest about the couples getting married there.

I'm sure there are some who are great (although admittedly I haven't come across any recently) but calling up to check arrangements for a wedding that week only to find out that the planner couldn't remember anything about them without checking their books was slightly depressing.

That said my friend got married in the hotel where she was a falconer and that felt very personal... but then all the staff knew her well and it was a kooky wee hotel anyway (even though they do quite a lot of weddings).

I'm a big fan of offbeat venues where the owners/managers/coordinators get to know you.

I am the same as you SpecialSundae i am not big on hotel weddings as lots of people are doing them now, i think it goes on preference, most of my family and h2b family live near by so its pointless them staying at hotel when they can just go home when they are ready, me and h2b and best man and bridesmaid are staying in a hotel in the evening. i also found some wedding coordinators were rude when we rang to look into potential weddings there. :) xx

Our venue doesn't have accommodation, but we're going to put together a list of local hotels with average prices, so people can take their pick. We looked at a few hotels for our wedding, but we felt that all they wanted to do was sell us their package deal, rather than listen to what we wanted to do. Even when they did take breath long enough to listen to what we wanted, it worked out way more expensive and not worth it. Sure, some hotels offer some bargain deals, but don't go for a hotel just because you're worried about your guests accommodation. Go for a venue that you fall in love with (and if that happens to be a hotel, then the accommodation is a bonus!) :-) x

when my sister got married in july she had it in a hotel, so people from far away could stay, it was a very nice hotel but abit on the pricy side so the guests all stayed in local b&bs anyway so it was poinless!(from that point of view anyway) im just having the recption in a golf club thats 100yards down the road ffrom my house, guests can go where they want its not my problem, if they dont want 2 get taxis home or to local hotels they dont have to come END OF lol

We have a hotel as all my family and a lot of our friends are coming from far away - I really like quirky venues but stress too much about other people so will feel more relaxed if i dont have to worry about where they are staying transport etc.
I do like the idea of staying up late and having breakfast in the morning

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

The venue we are having doesnt have any accomodation but has discounts of 10% at hotels in the local area for wedding guests. Once it gets closer will find out how many need transport there as the venue has said guests can leave their cars there overnight and get taxis or other transport to their overnight stay.

Hotels are no diferent from any other place to be fair. Registrars dont care about you or how you want the room set up, in most hotels you can choose. The hotel I have chosen knows me and my partner by name and what we want.
That said if you dont want to sort people out for accomodation just let them do it. after all you are paying for the day lol x

I'm having my reception in a marquee venue with no accommodation. I was really worried about this but like the other girls have said I'll be putting in my invites accommodation options. It was the ONLY venue We'd seen that we loved sooo it will have to be okay lol. My caterers have been AMAZING and strangley enough she has helped me organise transport, discos, decor and cost cutting ideas!! (If your in the Suffolk area and would like there details dont hesitate to message me) xxx

It depends. I wanted a hotel venue, but then we went to look around where we had it and both fell in love with the place. We found a hotel which was three miles away and block booked a load of rooms for people, but also gave them a list of other nearby hotels.

I dont think venue is anyway near as important as the people you share your day with. You find the nicest venue, whether thats hotel, castle or village hall within your allocated budget and the rest is what you make of it. xx

We're having ours at a place with no accommodation, in fact there's only one hotel (which has just 4 rooms) in the entire village and the nearest hotel after that is about 5km away! So far everyone has been fine with it!!

we had our wedding at a hotel and it was amazing, and no stress at all, everyone was able to check in before the wedding, and then do nothing except have fun, and we could go back to our room whenever we wanted. it worked perfectly :) x

weddings are stressful enough so if someone is willing to help you out then let them ;). the venue doesnt matter at all, as long as it is within affordability, its the person you are marrying. after all its not the wedding day that counts, its the marriage after it x
