I'm interested to find out where people are honeymooning? Why they decided where they are going, and when?

Planning on booking a few days away in France just after the wedding to get away, then we're having our actual honeymoon on our first year anniversary and we're going to New York.

I've never been to France and H2B has never been to New York so we thought it'd be nice to incorporate the places we'd both like to see.

How about you, have you decided where to go yet? Xx

We haven't set a budget as such but we're currently debating whether to do Hong Kong and Borneo as a twin centre holiday or do a royal Caribbean cruise on their new ship which sails three weeks after we get married from New York to the Bahamas,as we got engaged in New York... The idea behind our honeymoon is that we wanted to go somewhere where when we tell people where we're going we get a reaction and questioning over why we're going there...rather than opting for Spain or turkey where a lot of ppl have been you'd get the 'oh right' comment Ivwant the 'oh wow,why did u think of going there' type comment....
It helps being a travel agent tho as obviously the further afield I go the more it benefits the company when it comes to selling that as a holiday when I get bk x

We are going to the Dominican Republic for 10 nights in August 2014 (a year away tomorrow).
We went to Cuba for our first summer holiday together a few years ago and loved it and the weather so we knew we wanted somewhere over in the Caribbean area for the weather and atmosphere.
We have a limited budget so can't afford sandals etc but chose a resort with good reviews, good perks, adults only, jacuzzi on patio etc. as far as the budget would stretch really.
Spent ages researching and booked on the day 2014 holidays came on sale.
Have to go in school hols as I am a teacher.

I *think* we might be going to Italy... H2B has booked and its a surprise! But our budget was £2000 (gift from his mum for the wedding) and any more we have to bump up! More than generous!

We have to stay "local" as I'm on 10 days notice to move with work, so even if I can't fly back for whatever reason, I know I'd be able to drive and sail back within about 3 days from most places in Europe. We're just going for a week because husband has to deploy 2 weeks after we get married to hot sandy places so needs about a week to get his life together and buffer in case his flight out is a few days earlier than anticipated.

    All insured of course!

We haven't decided on a destination yet although we are thinking somewhere with a beach and not much else (maybe Mauritius or Seychelles) as we figure that after all the stress we'll just want to relax and spend time together somewhere pretty. We've decided to have our honeymoon as our gift list and I'm going to say in the invites something along the lines of 'rather than you buying us a toaster that will break in a couple of years, we'd appreciate it if you could contribute towards our honeymoon so you can help us create memories that we will have forever'.

Were going to Dominican Republic 5* for two weeks in November , just 3 days after our wedding which I really can not wait for. We had always wanted to go there but never been able to afford it before so were really excited for a bit of winter sun :) x

We went to Hawaii, 2 nights Honolulu, 6 nights Maui and 6 nights on the big island/Kona then 3 nights in LA on the way back to break up the journey. It was one of the places both hubby and I really wanted to go to and that neither of us had been to before as both of us had travelled and seen a lot of the world already before we met each other and also in the time we were dating. Okay so I'd been to LA before but 3 nights there en route back didn't bother me.

Hawaii was one of those once in a lifetime trips that we could only justify spending that kinda money on for something really special and we would never get anything more special than our honeymoon xxx

We wanted somewhere hot, didn't really have a budget but knew we'd have to pay more as we were travelling in August (summer holidays as I work in a school). We also wanted to go somewhere none of us had been before (couldn't think of anything worse than a honeymoon in a place any of us had been with an ex lol).

We finished up going for one week, all inclusive to Malta. The hotel was great, we got the weather and definitely lots of places to visit etc.

I have always wanted to go to Bora Bora on my honeymoon since I was about 5! We booked it in November 2012, leaving a couple of days after the wedding. We didn't really have a budget because my mum said she would put a very generous amount of money towards the wedding. So she is paying for the honeymoon, which leaves us with the wedding to pay for.

So we have booked 2 weeks in French Polynesia, 1 week in Moorea and 1 week in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora! Will cost the same amount as our wedding, but it is 2 weeks rather than 1 day!

I'd love to go to Bora Bora, not sure we can spend that kinda money again on a holiday after Hawaii. Lol, realised I said 6 nights instead of 7 nights in Maui, what a muppet., hehehe, 7 nights Maui and 6 nights on the big island. I'm so muddled.

I always thought the honeymoon should be that dream once in a lifetime treat if you can afford it. It was the perfect place to fly to 2 days after the wedding xxx

Were not having one :( because paying for the wedding ourselves it kind of left us with no money left soooooo i think it will just be an extra special family holiday when finances are sorted out, or even a late deal after were married i have 3 children so need family friendly as i couldn't stand to leave them behind x

We booked a last minute deal a few weeks before the wedding and got a week all inclusive in Spain. We would have loved one of these once in a lifetime holidays but we simply couldn't afford it. However, we had an amazing time on our honeymoon and loved it. As long as you get to spend some time together, it'll be great :)

Hubby and I wouldn't have been able to afford it without the very generous contributions of my parents and his dad to our wedding day. I am so aware of how lucky we have been with parents helping out.

The best thing about our honeymoon though was spending every single day for 2 and a half weeks with hubby xxx

I agree with IDL, the best part of the honeymoon is simply spending time together :)

We decided Tunisia after I started naming different countries not too far from the UK. When I said that one we both decided on it, neither of us had been there. We wanted to go shortly after the wedding, but booking availability dictated that we had to go two days after the wedding but that was very ideal for us, it gives us a day to give rentals back and finalise the packing. Budget was decided by my dad as he paid for it, he told us the budget so we chose the hotel.

Were off to Mexico :) we were looking at Italy as somewhere to just go after the wedding to chill, but 7 nights in Italy was the same price for 9 nights in Mexico - so that one won :)
