    hello ladies!

well we've now finally booked our church and are starting to think about honeymoon ideas. However, many of the resorts that we've come across seem to have their rainy seasons in June! We dont want to go to the "popular" destinations that everyone seems to go to i.e. mauritius, or maldives, but would ideally like somewhere with a bit of culture and nice secluded beaches. Anyone got any ideas? have you booked your honeymoon yet? Anyone know of any good all inclusive package companies?

We're going to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Thailand will be where we have a more classic honeymoon after some backpacking through the Malaysia and shopping and stuffing our faces in Singapore.

Thailand's beaches are stunning, the food is brilliant and there's no lack of culture. You can get all-inclusive deals, but the food's so much cheaper there that you're better to go for B&B or room only and going out to eat.

We're going all inclusive to Malta. There's actually one hotel there (that we were going to book) that has it's own private beach. There's also lots of culture/history and places to visit (as h2b isn't one for just laying around in the sun).

mym 72 we went to malta this year... only good if you are willing to travel. Valetta is the busiest place so worthwhile visiting here for a few days. the best hotel was the riu seabank i think its called. If this is edited IM me and I will give you details of what we did etc to help you out as we were worried we would be bored... not much in the way of beaches but we managed our time well to minimise this. We are too active for our own good hehe

I wouldn't be too concerned about rainy seasons TBH; we've been to Mexico twice in June, Cuba twice in July/August, and the Dom Rep in July. On each trip I've only had one day of rain, and then occasional showers: most of the time it rains for literally 10 mins, and dries almost instantly, and it always seem to rain at night when we're in bed. Some destinations are different and are much wetter, but the Caribbean should be pretty safe really in June.

Suzky - we're staying in Sliema so not too far from Valetta I don't think. We're staying at the Preluna hotel (the tallest hotel in Malta lol). They have their own ocean side pool and 'beach club' but no sandy beach. I think it's going to be a trip to Mellieha for that lol. PM me if you can - it would be good to get some pointers as what there is to do there.

We went to malta 3 years ago and stayed in sliema at the end of the strip. Think they were building another hotel complex next to where we stayed. We thought it was a very quiet town, although we did go in may and also our hotel complex was filled with grannies and grandads, especially downstairs when it came to the evening entertainment! If we go back i'd go another time of the year or maybe try st julienne's instead as busier.

mym cant find you online yet but a few pointers:

valetta - fab, older version of york. Must see as many of the larger churches etc as you can but remember to cover your shoulders. They will give you shawls. They are amazing. Be weary of eating outside due to the confinement of some of the tables which harbors flies etc. Go and see the canons being fired and walk as close the the water as possible. We went to loads of museums there but cant remember them all now. It does get pricy so do some research in your hotel as they give you a guide book of local attractions for each area and pick your museums before you go. The one with all the wildlife in was fab and a must see. Got loads of good piccies from there. If you get off the bus a stop early and walk to the city you will see some lovelly buildings and water features. try to go into the presidential area/museum,,., i tried but there was a funeral of the president on at the time and I didnt know and I saw the open casket, I was horrified as tourists were just taking photies of him. Not nice. I ran straight out of there. Dont pay for the horse ride... it is a rip off. You might as well walk around if you dont mind walking. Very dear for only about 5 minutes if you are lucky.

melliah bay - this was where we stayed. Boring. i know it had the 'beach' but you have to go up a huge hill to get to just a few shops. It was a nice walk in the evening and the bus is only a few cents if you dont want to walk up the hill. But there was not a great deal of things to do. There is a church down a lot of steps which is lovelly and there are bomb shelters too which are interesting but creepy. Also watch jelly fish if you do go swimming and dont go on a sunday as its over run with locals on their day off.

mdina - beautiful city. Again, can be abit boring but there is some lovelly churches and museums again here. Also a nice place to have a coffee and a cake. its the only place in malta where there are not run down houses as you can see beautiful buildings all over malta but then the one next to it looks like its been abandoned... you get none of that here. Theres a good museum down a side street which talks about the history of it all including wars etc.

gozo - get the ferry. its not too dear. Also dont try and walk around it... you will have to travel ages from the ferry and dont get a bus around as its too hot. We did a deal with the local taxi driver (theres loads of them waiting for you). We gave him 40 euros to show us EVERYTHING. He stayed with us the whole time and gave us a private tour in the AIR CONDITIONEd merc... much better and we got loads of local knowledge and showed us basically the whole of gozo. Another couple wished they had done this as they gave up on their tour due to the heat. Dont get a taxi from by the ferry though. walk and get a local or they will charge 100 euros. We had the guy for 4 hours which was a very cheap excursion.

Dont pay for a cruise from thompsons etc. Get the local one to comino as its much cheaper and gets you closer. Its beautiful seeing the water there but does get very very busy. This is where the blue lagoon is and you see loads of sights. the local boat 'something rose' is the only one that can get in and out of the caves. Its advertised extensively in melliah bay. Defo worthwhile.

Go on one of the excursions when you go to one of the religious fayres. im not religious so cant remember the name of the statue but they take her out to ave maria and there is a huge celebration and a tour around the local village. There is then the best firework display you will see in your life as they are so big they take up your whole field of vision and they are so loud they sound like bombs going off. I like my fireworks but never witnessed anything like it. This is a set of festival with each village doing this on a different day and only happens once a year. We went around the 10th August and were lucky. Our town was one of the better ones by accident and a stroke of luck and it was only 2oeuros or something. i will find out the name so you can see the church if you want as there were gold tapestries everywhere and silks so worth seeing it even if the festival is not on.

cant think of much else at the mo but if you mention a place i can tell you more

Use the buses to get around. They are super cheap but a little hair raising though they are safe.

Thanks for all that suzky - glad you've told us about the boring places as well lol. We're travelling out on the 9th August so we might be lucky and see festival and fireworks. We had looked at the Mellieha Bay hotel but it sounded a bit 'old' how they described the entertainment etc. I suppose if we want beach we can just go up there for one day. I'll definitely look up the local taxis in Gozo - sounds like a good deal.

I can't believe we've only got just over three months to go - it's crept up really quickly lol.

Mym72. We went to malta earlier this month, we stayed in xemxjia. I would recommend getting the 5 day bus ticket to get around, we paid 11.65 euros for a 5 day ticket we could jump on and off any buses. Made life a lot easier.

Mellieha bay is lovely, and up that end of the island is golden bay horse riding, that i would recommend if you like the idea of horse riding. We did a 2 hour ride along the cliffs and saw popeye villiage, was a brilliant experience.

Also went on a cruise to gozo and comino, fernandes cruise leaving from silema, that was an amazing day! The blue lagoon in comino was gorgeous and we jumped off the side of the boat to swim in it. The food was also utterly delicious.

We visited valetta and sat down on a wall a short walk away from fort elmo, looking out over the sea at the 3 cities, we sat still and quietly soaking it up and saw some lizards, maltese wall lizards we later found out, running along the wall.

We paid 7 euros each for a malta by night tour, and that was worth doing, also they shoot the canon in valetta the noon day gun, we were glad that we got to see that.

Gozo it is worth getting the ferry and then paying the 15 euros for the sightseeing bus (not really worth doing that in malta as theres too much to see in a day and bus tickets are so cheap anyway)

Oh and a chinese resturant in xemxjia, its next door to the greek resturant. Was totally yummy! Had a set meal for 2, 15 euros each and was basically a 4 course meal and was really tasty.

Thanks blondmumma as well. I'm going to make notes before we go so we've got an idea what to do lol. H2b is looking forward to the cruises and being able to jump off the side of the boat for a swim (even though he's laughed at me because I'm not a strong swimmer - I'll stay on the boat and enjoy the sun lol). The bus passes are good value - think we'll do that for the week. So looking forward to going now lol.....

Hi ladies, did a search on honeymoons and this was the latest thread. :0) We're on a budget of realistically no more than £500 each for 5 or 7 days. We're looking at the Canaries as somewhere not too far (h2b can't take 2 weeks off work) but that will pretty much guarantee sunshine in late April.

Any recommendations? The deposit is burning a hole in my pocket and we're pretty eager to get something booked asap.

    Thanks girls.

go into a travel agent, tell them your budget and that you want all inclusive and see what they find for you.
then go to another travel agent and tell them what the other found and see what they can do for you.

that way you will get a really good deal, and you will be surprised what these agents can come up with!
