Our honeymoon is at the beginning of April, all the places we like the look of (Dominican Republic) is in the middle of the American spring break, we don't want our relaxing romantic holiday turned into American pie!!! HELP

yeah were off to florida a week on sat... we asked about spring break and were just JUST missing it....could you pop it back a week or do u want it to be THEN....
and ive a friend who went to dom rep at spring break(a couple aged 30+)... it was DIRE.... sick in the pool and drunken idiots everywhere all the time... the place went WILD...and they all complained and they got moved to another hotel...
i suppose you could be lucky and ur hotel may not be affected!! xx

Are there any resorts which avoid the Spring Break invasion in the Dominican Republic?

There are companies (like the one named after the things you wear on your feet in the summer!) that specialise in Adult Only/Couple only resorts and I'm sure they would cover the Dominican Republic - have you checked those out? Or I can recommend speaking to an advisor from the Finders of Trail(!) - they are so knowledgeable and really know their stuff. Hope you get your dream honeymoon! Hx

I'm not sure of your budget, but if you go for a more exclusive/expensive hotel, you are highly unlikely to find spring breakers there. One in the Dom Rep which springs to mind is the Excellence resort; you could also check out Mexico (I personally much prefer it to the DR as in the DR you are pretty much stuck on the resort unless you take an organised trip, in Mexico it's easier to get out and about, go shopping, etc). My top Mexico picks would be:

Excellence Riviera and Excellence Playa Mujeres
Iberostar Grand
Royal Playa del Carmen
Valentin Imperial Maya
Any of the Secrets resorts

Cuba is also worth checking out, great beaches like the DR and a similar feel; the Paradisus resorts are very nice.

If you can't stretch to the resorts I've listed (they're all high-end and not dirt cheap) then TBH I personally would probably avoid the DR at spring break as I've heard some pretty dire stories (I'm active on Trip Advisor and there are also issues come Spring Break), or at the very least, research your resort VERY carefully on TA

hunni Ive been to the Dominican the past two years!! I can recommend it highly enough, its great people are so friendly :)

i stayed in Riu mambo in puerto plata its part of complex with three Riu's and you get to use facilities in all three its amazing :) ooo and u get a minibar in your room topped up every 2 days and its a included :)

If you're looking at 5* Adult only in the DR my suggestions would be:

Excellence Punta Cana

Gran Bahia Principe Ambar (I've stayed at the GBP Punta Cana; the Ambar is a small adult-only section with it's own buffet restaurant and it's own pool, and only guests who've booked this upgrade can use the facilities; it is however part of a huge resort, so there will be a lot of families around at the beach, a la carte restaurants etc; as far as I know, it doesn't attract Spring Breakers)

Iberostar Grand Bavaro

These 2 aren't adults only, but will not attract Spring Breakers due to the ambience and price:

Majestic Elegance

Gran Bahia Principe Levantado

You will almost definitely not get any spring breakers at any of these hotels, as they are usually looking for 'younger' hotels orientated to teens/young adults, not couples; these resorts would also not tolerate inappropriate behaviour as they have a reputation to maintain.

As I said, I would also look at Mexico, as you have a much wider choice of adult only AIs; the ones I've listed above are only a handful. You also tend to get a higher level of service on the whole as there is a lot of competition between resorts. I've stayed at 2 adult only AIs in Mexico 2 years running, and will be going to a third in June, so if you have any questions, please ask; I've also been to the DR and Cuba.
