Hi, we're getting married in June but are thinking of having our honeymoon Sept-October for 10-14 days - I've been speaking to some people at work and they've been saying we should book it now so it's something to look forward to and so we get the best deals - is this true? We were thinking of sorting it next year, I've suggested to H2B that we look now but he doesn't seem convinced! Aarghh!

We're also going to go into a travel agents and ask for recommendations on where to go for that time of year etc - any ideas? We just know we want it to be hot and near the sea for diving etc!

I'd book it now. If you do there's a longer period of time to pay it off so therefore you can get what you want in theory. We are going to Cuba in April, they have a nice stretch of coral reef for diving, I hear it's equally as nice Oct/Nov... as is the rest of the Caribbean. Depends how far you want to go, I wanted Sardinia, he wanted Caribbean - he won but I am glad now.

Hope you find your dream honeymoon x

    Here comes the bride......

We're going mid-July and we booked this August. I'd look around at some deals and then see what each company can offer you.

Great thanks ladies - in order to find the best deals, what's the best way to do this? Is it to google 'honeymoon deals' then take the best ones into a travel agents? I have no idea!!

We are looking at booking it now for next sep - although the flights arent actually released yet so you can book but they can still change the flight times and even dates which may be a problem if you are going somewhere a bit different. This happened to me when I went travelling and our flights were changed by a day!!!!

If you are looking for hot and diving - egypt? or kenya (that's where we are going :) ) Not sure if its rainy season in the maldives or borneo is another place thats meant to have good diving - closer to home Malta is meant to be really good for diving too

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

we're not booking our honeymoon until after the wedding but this is due to money (lack of it) and the fact the our sons will be starting school full time the week after our wedding so we cant be away for that! if you book it now you will get a good deal, but also if you leave it til next year you may get a good deal for being last minute so i dont think it really matters!
Apparently Cyprus is lovely and hot at that time of year, my mil2b goes there every october because its lovely and hot but not too busy as its not the most popular time to go! lots of diving etc in cyrpus too xx

We booked our 11 months in advance as that was the earliest we could get the flights. I'm really looking forward to it now because I know what I have to look forward to.

We booked our honeymoon about 14 months beforehand - so it gave us time to pay it off (and I was trawling the travel agents before we could even book for August lol). We found ours online (Thomas Cook) - one week all inclusive in Malta - but went into the shop to book, after checking that they would price match the online price.

We book our holidays about 11-12 months in advance usually. Prices fluctuate, but typically you can get a decent price booking early, plus you have longer to pay it off. Another time which can be good to book is just after Christmas; you often get good deals then. I personally never book a big holiday last minute, as my OH and I can't be too flexible on dates (we both have to book time off way in advance), and we're pretty fussy: we like to research and if we're spending a lot, we want choice and to know it ticks as many boxes as possible. I always track prices after I've booked, and I've never yet seen anywhere we've booked cheaper last-minute.

I would definitely start researching destinations at this stage, as for eg, the weather in the Caribbean isn't always the best in September/October, so this might influence your choice.

As far as booking goes, go with a reputable company that's ABTA/ATOL protected and has a good reputation. I personally avoid companies offering super-low prices, as typically, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is, and you might have awful customer service, they might overbook hotels, and so on; and obv in the current economic climate, they could even go bust. I find that the major tour operators usually have fairly good prices on package deals, so tend to book with them for peace of mind if I'm parting with a lot of cash (I'm less bothered about a cheap weekend break in Europe).

We use the Caribbean Warehouse for our Caribbean holidays and I'd recommend them. Also check out thomas cook style as they have some very good prices at the moment for next year.

We booked ours over 18months in advance and was better as we got an early booking discount and meant we had longer to pay it off bit by bit, as its the Maldives we've only now had our flights confirmed but thats no bother to us as still a while off yet x

Cool - I've rung round some places though and they say you can only book accom now and not flights as they're not out till 11 months before? Only Virgin are giving me flights now, going to pop into Kuoni at the weekend then back to Virgin to see if they can do any better - where are you staying in the Maldives? There's so much choice we're not sure where to start!

We went to First choice and then Thomas Cook fter getting quotes from both and in the end thomas cook gave us better discount and a much better deal for less money.... We are staying a the Medhufushi 5* resort and since we booked it so early the payments are much more manageable otherwise wouldn't of been able to afford it. defiantely get quotes of loads of companies and see whether the others can do any better deals xx
