Just wondering for all those getting married in Churches if the minister gave you homework to do?
CommentAuthorangelsmile
I think that's quite common... a lot of churches ask you to attend the chuch as a member for 6 months and some ask you to do marriage counselling to sort out any 'baggage' or issues... I'm not getting married in a church because of the above as I feel that I wouldn't really be joining the church for the right reasons... Not sure what other peoples experiences have been... x

I'm getting married in CofE and me and H2B had to attend a couples evening to talk about getting married in church and ask questions we have, but thats it - no homework. Altho they would like us to be in Church when they read the Banns which I'm fine with doing - it will be a buzz to hear our names called out :) What homework do you have??x
CommentAuthorLinzi-jo
We havent been given anything. We dont even have to be there when the Banns are read if we dont want to be xx

We don't have to go to church or join it and we are getting married in to the CofS. We have been asked to write to each other about what the commitment means to us indivually and also what we see it meaning to us as a couple. We also have to write about what we love about each other.
this is then discussed between us and then at the next meeting with the minister he will take the bit of paper away and help us to create our own unique service with our vows meaning a bit more than the standard ones as they will be presonalised to us

I was given a list of questions to read through, our minister suggested me and h2b talked through them and looked objectively at our relationship. We don't have to go back to her with anything though.
If only life could be one long tea break

we skipped a few of the commitment question as we have been together for 13 years this year :)

We're getting married in a Catholic church and have to attend a marriage preparation course which is either an intensive 2 days or a series of shorter sessions with the parish priest.
I just e-mailed priest this evening about dates for the 2 day course.
