My advice would be to put the money in a long term saving account. You don't know how your tastes will change in three years.

its your choice but if i were you id save the money and not buy the things, fair enough the colour theme may not change but the bits and pieces you want might!
ive got 18 months and yes i am looking around and getitng ideas but im not really buying anything yet, as i know what im like, what i want now, ie flower types etc may totally change by then :)

Plus if you buy little bits like favour boxes, and then closer to the time find some equally as cheap or even cheaper boxexes that you love twice as much do u have the ones you dont love the most or buy both, essentially spending more money, not trying to rain on ur parade and if you really love something buy it, but if you buy it all now, when your weddings a yr a half away you wont have anything left to do, and it'll be a long wait xxx
and as dove said money in a bank earns interest, so more money, maybe look around for a high interest account, then u'll make more interest and have even more money for the little things

yea i will do thanks girls going to look everywhere because if i can save and get extra money for saving i can splash out on more lovely items that i want :), for future reference tho i'd need air tight plastic storage and acid free tissue paper? xx

hi claire88 i'm looking to get married in aug 2014 so have more or less the same time as you to wait and we have both been very tempted to start buying things for our wedding and have also been looking at the type of venue we would like. we were even thinking of booking a venue but we decided to save the money up instead and book in a year/two years time when we can get wedding insurance and such to cover deposits. we have an online savings account with our bank and we dont have to put a set amount in - just what we can afford. hope this helps.

I would say definatley start putting money away and save, look around get ideas and i mean if you got an idea of what u want your day to be and you see something you completely fall in love with, go for it. The last thing you want to do is leave it and then regret it. We started buying things with about 18months to go last year........now only 6months away! Time flies! x x x x

I bought a lot of things in the run up to our original date for the wedding, now half of it isn't getting used at all. The rest that I haven't changed my mind on is in boxes in our loft. But saving is a great idea when you have 3 years to go, and you get to have fun splurging it all in one go, lol. x

i have been planning for 9 months and i have changed my colour theme from my favorite colour to one that isnt and changed my idea of what i thought i wanted to something different and even more happier. so id find a decent savers account pay in what u can each month and save it go for one that you need 30 dqys notice or something so your not tempted to use it when you want a takeaway or night out!!:O) lol xx

Just make sure that you keep things covered and in a place that doesn't fluctuate in temperature. The best place is in the house and not a garage, attic or cellar etc. I've already got my flowers and the lady that did them wrapped them up for me in the florist cellophane and then packed them in a cardboard box and said they will be fine. I've got my flower girl dresses hung up in the wardrobe with bags over the top of them to keep the dust off and my veil is handing up in the MIL's wardrobe so the h2b doesn't see it. You don't need acid free paper unless you are storing your dress and other delicate fabrics.
My one bit of advice would be though to store everything in the one place if you can or come nearer the time you will be searching all over for all the bits and bobs.

I wasn't going to buy anything now, but since the thread about the tax increase, I'm starting to panic ... lol

I am getting married in march 2012 and have already bought our table decs, artificial flowers, bridemaids hair accessories, wedding shoes (and flat ones for the party afterwards) and have fabric swatches ready for when we order the bridemaids dresses to be made and the card for making our invites. I am buying a couple of bits each month so that we can pay the bigger things off without worrying so much about all the little costs which soon add up.
CommentAuthorJane
I would agree with some of the comments on here, put your money away and wait until a bit nearer the time, tastes DO change and you dont want to be stuck with things you dont like anymore, I got engaged in March and started buying things and now, only 6 months down the line I would have chosen some things differently. The VAT increase is going to make little difference to be honest and you are better off putting money aside and watch it grow. While you are waiting enjoy yourself looking around and planning, make lists of preferred suppliers, get brochures, catalogues etc, go to bridal fairs, make up an idea scrap book and relish the anticipation! xxx

I say put your money into an ISA, you can save up to £5000 a year and it will earn interest evn if you touch itand you can put as much or as little as you want in each time. I started planning 6months ago and my plans have changed so much in that time so unless its a deff and you know 100%thats what you want I say save!know its hard cos you want to start doing but saving might mean you can aford more than you think! hope that helps xxxx
CommentAuthorlelbel1
Definitely save. You may think you know what you want now, and your colours may not change, but trends do. Something might come out in the next few years that you like better, so I'd hold off for now. Why not just keep collating a scrap book with your ideas?
CommentAuthorclewsy
artifical flowers put them in a box and then cover with a black bin liner over the top so they don't lose there colour because of sunlight then about a week before your due to get married get them out and leave them uncoverdxx
CommentAuthorKerrylou
I'd say save too. We've been planning our wedding for 2 years now and we've changed our minds so many times, had financial hiccups that needed to be dealt with etc etc. The only thing that's actually been bought so far is my dress. You can only plan so far in advance because you never know what's around the corner. We've decided that nothing is being bought until after Christmas when I go back to work.
Top tip I was given is to buy a Terramundi pot and put all your £2 & £1 coins in it, the couple that suggested that saved £800 in 3 months xxx

But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D
CommentAuthorMrsC.Wade2B
Thank you very much ladies your tips have been a great help, my trouble is i'm so excited i wana do everything right away but you are all right, saving is so much more important to be able to splash out on things and with the vat increase i'll be more prepared with spare cash in the bank, so glad i asked advice before rushing into things you girls are star's. xxxx

We have a couple of piggy banks - one for £'s, one for 50ps and one for the odd bits :) And they're all money bank that require a key ... which the MIL2B keeps! lol Can't wait to open that £ piggy! He's so full now!! x
CommentAuthorMonicaGeller
if you feel the need to buy bits to get you ready, have you considered using the points from loyalty cards etc and saving the cold hard cash for your venue etc.
i can imagine that you are excited and just want to start doing things and that is fine, enjoy the excitement but restrain the spending if you can
