    Hey
I have hit my first problem and really not sure how to get round it so any advice appreicated. My ceremony atm starts at 3pm (church) but my photographer has said we wont get any outdoor shots with it getting dark early, which i at least wanted a couple. That for best results outside would be better so we considered moving ceremony to 2pm heres th problem, h2b's uncle is a caterer an is doing our food for reception he said we were pushing it for them making ceremony at 3, so no way could he make it at 2pm. so dont know how i can get round this i did think last night maybe he could make a start on everything before ceremony then make it for 2pm start then leave promptly after to get it finished for evening reception, we will go straight to reception after photos but will only be close family friends and have sandwiches or something and do speeches just before the evening reception starts around 6ish possibly? what would you do? it may not help that i dont like his uncle much(he really upset me once) and thinking more of my photos that will last forever but he still needs to be at ceremony for h2b, cant really use diff caterer either!! xxx

i would ask his uncle if it would be easier for him to make 2 then he would have time after and you get better pics. If not it is still light till about 5.30 so is that not plenty time for pics if its too dark perfect for lights and sparkely pics :D xx

nickers i did say that to photographer but he said 2pm is best would give us more time, i to be honest think they have all morning but not sure if they are working they own a cafe too, but they are making food for around 100-120 people.

mrs stocks the clocks change soon so sunset is at 4pm so the photographer told me, if i really have to i will have them indoors its just a shame xx

I would say that its your wedding and you must do whatever is best for you and your h2b.I am assuming that your h2bs uncle is not a key player at the ceromony and if needs be it could go on without him.I think your h2bs uncle should be offering you solutions not giving you problems as a proffesional caterer he should of known it was always going to be tricky for him to get away(what if something goes wrong in the kichen and he is delayed, would he expect you to wait.Of course not-i hope!)If any of my uncles could not make my wedding ceremony it would be a shame but rest assured i would not be changing the start time to accommodate them.
I hope you get it sorted out you don't need this so close to the wedding xxx

Have you tried a different photographer?

Our wedding photos will be mainly in the dark and some photographers were so negative.
We found good one who said it is more difficult but we will get those shots you want and it will be fine.
    Maybe you should reconsider?

thats my thoughts excatly but h2b wouldnt consider that i dont think it had already entered my mind, his uncle isnt doing anything in the ceremony, and he even said 3pm is pushing it for him, and i agree he should be helping out but ive done a little timetable now

    2pm ceremony starts
    3pm ceremony finishes
    4-4.30pm finish photos
5 reception to have sandwiches an speeches
    6 evening reception starts

so i think between 3pm and 5 pm should give him enough time to finish up surely he just misses speeches ect which isnt so bad

Ask your photographer if they bring any lights/flash aids etc, a friend got married in a medieval castle a couple of years ago and all her group shots were in the dark with the castle in silhouette, but the crowd were lit up - looked fab! And even in low light they should be able to edit the colour palette a bit during editing? Check this is included!

But I admit around 4pm it will be getting darker but you may as well just go with it!

he could start before an earlier ceremony then have a later start evening buffet (if suitable maybe 7pm) so he can finish the catering after the photos.. or if your budget will allow use an outside caterer.

Or in some Asian cultures, some photos are taken before the wedding, so you can get best use of light that way - depends on if you want your dress to be a surprise before the service though or if you want to have your photos before and not inconvenience the catering!

    Hi hun

I get married in 2 weeks and I was worried about not having enough day light for the photos but my photographer put me at ease and said there are so many ways to get beautiful photos outside as it starts getting dark and even when its pitch black.

Your photographer should have kit for setting up lights etc outside. May be ask him about it?

But if that fails, photos inside can be just as beautiful.

Try not to stress too much, I wouldn't change everything just for a few more pictures outside.

    xx

Has your photographer just thought of this issue? Surely he should have thought of this before now. It's a bit late if he has just thought to mention this, surely, as you've got everything booked. I'm not sure how easy it would be to bring things forward, even if it is just by an hour.
As the other ladies have said, talk to your photographer and see what provision he has for lighting in this eventuality. He should be able to deal with this. Hx

Like bridalmiss said, if you are up for maybe losing out on the traditional first look at you down the aisle for an earlier first look before taking photos.. might be worth considering if the daytime shots are really important to you.

Advantages would be that your dress and makeup will be fresh, and you will be able to schedule enough time to take all of your planned photos before going off to get married, together! The pre wedding first look is really popular in the States, they arrange for the bride and groom to meet before the ceremony in private so they have time to spend together and take those special photos.

What happens if you rearrange the whole wedding for outside photo's and it rains? Not trying to be negative as I'm getting married just before you. We haven't planned to do anything outside. If we can great, if not fine too.

I'm the same, I've planned more for the weather than the day light. If it rains pictures have to be taken inside anyway so I wouldn't change your times so you have extra day light for outside photos because they still might not happen x

i think pictures outside in the dark look quite romantic actually, especially if u have a few lights or well placed candles around u, u could get some amazing shots, maybe even when the sun goes down, ur photographer has left it a bit late to say this would be a problem and if he is good at his job he should be able to get great shots whatever the light outside.

outside photos r not the be all and end all anyway, i know its nice to have them but if it does rain then it will be indoors so i would say to ur photographer u think theres enough time for photos and u have things booked already that u cant change, ask what flashes etc he will have with him. it should test his photography skills and a good one would and should enjoy the challenge!

good luck hun, in my opinion i wouldnt change a thing! x
