    Hey!

I just got engaged!! Sunday 21st July 2013. We have been talking and discussing it for awhile, I have even been imagining my dream wedding, as all us girls do, for awhile. I joined this site, hoping it would be soon. And he has finally done it!

Now all I can think about is our wedding. We decided that in July 2015 would be an ideal date. I doubt it is going to happen. We don't have a lot of money, and a mortgage with full time jobs so I highly doubt we can afford it. Well, not to my high specifications anyway. I only want the best of the best. Don't we all? But I am going to have to try and talk myself around this as we don't have family with money either.

I don't know the first thing about planning a wedding...I suppose I will have to learn. And the dreaded question? Home or away? Too many things to answer!!

I thought I would post my first post now that I am officially engaged and hope to meet some great friends here :)

    Congratulations natalie!! :)

We had the same thoughts home or away, after long look into things, we decided away. We are getting married 23 may 2015 in Kefalonia Greece. It was cheaper for us as we don't have much money. Hope this helps

    Happy wedding planning xx

    Thank you for your reply.

And congratulations on ur up coming wedding (i keep hearing this and sounds very strange saying it myself!)

How did your family take the news? I'm worried about hurting people by telling them I want to go abroad. Especially the place I would love to go (Seychelles, Indian ocean) as I highly doubt our families could afford to come. But, at the same time, I highly doubt we can afford a wedding here for them to come anyway!! ARgh!

My family took it great we have told them know and sent save the date invites out so they can start saving. My oh family didn't take it well some did some didn't, but in all honesty they hate me anyway so I didn't expect much lol. You have to do what you have to do Hun I it works out cheaper for you in our case half the price, then you have to do it.

We are having a get together to celebrate for everyone else when we get home so no one misses out. It is hard but all wedding whether in the uk or abroad cause problems wrentit comes to inviting family.

    Hope this helps xx

    Congratulations Natalie. Enjoy your Engagement!

From what I have heard it is cheaper to do it away from home. However, its not to say you cant have what you want at home as there are lots of ways to cut the price down from number of guests to doing things like Invites and Table Decs yourself.

Thanks ladies, you have helped a lot. I think I need to stop worrying about what everyone else wants and actually figure out what we want. We are the ones getting married, not them! Thanks ladies :)

We've found that it seems to be cheaper to go abroad but we are still thinking at the moment. I know you want the best of the best but there are loads of diy threads where you can do things yourself for cheaper. How about making your own favours or flowers? :)

I have been looking at my own favours actually. And I have seen some amazing ones I think I could do myself at a much cheaper price. Anything is possible if you just believe!!!!

Yep; I'm making wine glass decorations with an aquatic theme which people can keep after. Cost me about £11 in all including the bride, groom e.t.c ones - would have cost £15 just to buy the top table ones on their own :D

Welcome and congratulations - I got engaged in May this year and we have the wedding booked now for 23 May 2015. I have really thrown myself into the wedding planning and it seems to have consumed my life. Can't stop thinking weddings and am so excited just wish we didn't have to wait for 2 years!! we are having ours here in a venue that means a lot to us as a couple. As you say its just the saving up now but we are determined and I look hunting out a bargain or 2 x

Congratulations :) We've booked our wedding for the 4th April 2015 and we are getting married in the UK.
We are lucky that my parents are paying for the reception venue but everything else is down to us, we don't have a lot of money between us either but you do get lucky sometimes and a lot of people have been willing to help as we've asked them. Maybe you could ask friends or family with particular talents to help out ? My work mate has an arts degree and offered to do invites so there are always short cuts you can take hun x
