I'm now back from my hen weekend and it was amazing.
I was a little worried because loads of people couldn't make it and then the day before one of my BMs couldn't come and was sending her BF in her place?!
Another friend could only make it for one night because she had double boooked and had to go to a friend's birthday so she came over to mine really early on the Friday to see the new house and after having lunch together we made our way to Centre Parcs. The two of us left our stuff in the car and headed straight for the spa where we'd booked a 3 hour pass. It was so nice and relaxing. We went into about 10 different rooms (different steams and suanuas etc) and the infinity pool but still didn't manage to fit everything in. We then got ready and started making our way to the lodge where 2 of my BMs passed us in the car so we waited for them to park up and then we all walked up together - which was great as it meant they helped carry the bagswith us!
We arrived at the lodge and found they'd decorated it with LOADS of pics of me and OH together and had put balloons and banners everywhere as well as far too much food! There were sweets and crisps and things covering the dining table. We sat outside in the sunshine and played a very wrong game called Cards Against Humanity and had a really good giggle.
Another BM arrived and the BF of another and I gave everyone their goody bags that I'd prepared that contained furry handcuffs, a bullet vibrator, a keyring and loads of sweets and they all loved them. We carried on playing the card game and pass the parcel - almost all of the layers contained sweets and a shot glass so we got pretty tipsy. The final layer which of course landed on me contained a veil, sash and wand as well as a beautiful scarf they'd bought me as a gift. As the neighbours were going to bed we decided to move indoors and I was given a parcel to open - one of my friends who couldn't make it had posted a present to one of my BMs to give to me which was so sweet of her. I opened it up to find a personalised hen night survival kit which contained things like paracetamol and shoe gel cushions and things and there was a lovely card in there from her as well.
We had a good chat and found out that the BM who couldn't come was on a massive downer at the moment and didn't want to ruin the mood for everyone else - she is desperate to get married and start a family (she's 41 and really feels the pressure of the clock ticking) and was really happy and excited because things seemed to be moving forward for her as well as they'd just had an offer on a house accepted and we're all sure her BF will pop the question soon but then on Thursday they got the survey results from the house back and it was going to cost them an extra £60k to sort out so they decided to pull out of the sale and it became a monumental set back in her eyes. I can completely understand how she feels to be honest - I was on the verge of tears whenever someone got married and I wasn't even engaged despite having been with OH for longer than the people getting married, so there's no hard feelings towards her there - plus, she baked me a big hen do cake. I still think it was a little strange her BF came instead but then I guess the way he sees it is they've already paid so someone should go. To put it in context I only know her because I was friends with him first so it wasn't just a complete randomer turning up!
The next day we all got up and had a picnic by the lake. One of the girls then had to leave and the rest of us jumped into our swimming costumes and headed for the pool which was soooo much fun!! Our favourite was definitely the 4-person slide. It was the first time I have ever screamed on a ride of any kind, and after the almost vertical drop I didn't stop screaming until we'd come out the other end! I insisted we do that one several times. After a few hours in the pool we went back to the lodge and got ready for the luau themed BBQ. We all wore bikinis with grass skirts and leis (including the honorary hen who was wearing one of my old bikini tops). We hung a load of brightly coloured lanterns up and poured cocktails into brightly coloured cups with loads of embellishments like umbrellas in. We ended up with more food than any of us could eat! We all got the giggles as we played 'Mr and Mrs' with answers OH had already secretly given to his sisters (who are 2 of my BMs).
The final day was spent lounging around in our PJs eating the remaining luau cupcakes I'd made and having a good chat. We then got dressed and made our way to the aerobics studio for a hula hoop class which was sooo much fun!! I now finally know how to actually keep a hula hoop up! I even won a couple of the competitions and being an instructor in training I couldn't help but throw in a few suggestions - we were challenged to keep the hoop up whilst moving our arms to and from our heads, so I suggested mixing it up by doing the YMCA and the macarena. I had a long talk with the instuctor afterwards and she gave me loads of great career advice and then told me how to get in touch with her if I had any questions which I thought was really nice of her.
After the class 2 of them left and I went for a meal with my 2 FSILs where I found out that they're both currently trying to conceive. I already knew one of them was trying but I was really surprised to hear about the other... I could potentially have 2 pregnant BMs on the big day! Luckily though at this point there won't be much of a bump to worry about if it happens soon for either of them so we can stick with the outfits I've already bought.
We then divided up the left over food and drink and made our way home and I filled OH in on the weekend and we had a good laugh comparing our answers to the Mr and Mrs quiz.
All in all a wonderful laid back weekend.
