I've been left to organise my own hen do as my two sisters are in Aus and working with 3 kids. It's become a good old stress fest, especially as my mates reckon the cost is too high...

Is £80 for an award-winning spa day with a rooftop pool and hour-long treatment included a complete rip-off? My friends keep complaining that it's too much and even my own mother has suggested that we 'just go for a wander around the shops' instead!! I'm a student but all of my friends work...naturally because it's my wedding I'm valuing my hen do as a real treat as I haven't been out in over a year since I had my baby. Maybe for them it doesn't mean as much and it's just a case of their friend (me) being unreasonable?? I don't care about going out afterwards-Id rather share a nice relaxing day with friends and family followed by a meal and margheritas. But I've been left with major feelings of guilt because everyone else doesn't want to pay £80 and some are even not coming but coming to the 'night out afterwards' .

If anyone drops out the price rises to £95 which would give everyone more reason to have a go. I'm coming close to just cancelling the whole thing!

My sister who's a beauty therapist has taken a look at the deal and reckons it's fantastic, especially as it's meant to be Europe's best day spa. Are my freinds making a fuss or am I asking too much?

It really depends on your group of friends, I've been on hen do's where it was just a usual night out and ones where we all paid to hire a cottage for a weekend costing £150 all in. Maybe you could have a spa with your sister and mum as a package, then meet your other friends for a meal afterwards if they're resisting now?

£80 sounds like a bargain for what you get! ;0) Are many people meant to be going? Your hen shouldn't be causing you stress!! Can you rope in a friend to help you jolly people along as your sisters aren't here?

Have people had much notice? £80 is a bargain for a spa day but times are hard for a lot of people at the minute, maybe they're finding it a stretch if they haven't had much time to put some money away?

    Can't wait to be married!

I feel you pain hunny, im too planning my own hen do.....and it sure is stressful!!!
My MOH is doing whatever shes doing, and my MIL2b is inviting ppl i dont even know. Ive managed to get my price down to £85pp for hotel in london, with cabaret and strip club in evening food drinks and club after. I too wanted to have a spa day but was looking at around £150pp. None of my lot want to be spending so much on hen do either. Maybe they need to realise that once it is paid for were set for the day apart from travel fare and drinks.

I know what you mean, originally I had wanted to do a Butlins themed weekend, which would have worked out at about £90 each for 3 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal, and of course all the wekend's entertainment, but I was complained at by a couple about the price. Laughingly, instead we are going to the races at a cost of £28 each plus drinks and bets, then a meal at £13 each plus drinks, then out for more drinks afterwards - so for a single day it's looking at costing at least 1/2 of the original plan!

that sounds like a great idea pennieb id love to do that but id also love the spa idea but i would say even if it is a great deal that would cost too much for me!! then again we on a seriously small budget so probs not even gona get a hen night other than maybe a small meal (£10pp max inc drinks) and then maybe a show or a couple of drinks xx

sorry im not much help xx i hope you manage to get it sorted out though hun xxx

I think it sounds like a barigain for what you're getting! Personally, I don't think it's too much, but it depends on your friends' circumstances which I can't comment on.

£80 is a fab price! you probably wont find one any cheaper! I found one in chester for £120 and my friends are refusing to pay it (im a bit like you, got kids..havent been out in a long time...feel like people should be willing to pay that bit extra) I've actually decided to go to barcelona for 3 nights with 2 of my sisters and 2 friends and will be having a 2nd hen do where we'll just all go for something to eat and a few beers! maybe you could use that option? do the spa day with the friends who are willing to pay £80 and have a seperate meal for all the rest? xx

Yeah i think that's a good idea too Ziggy but I'm not willing to head up to Edinburgh which is a halfway point between myself and most of my mates in Scotland twice as it means more time away from the baby. I think I'll just let everyone know that if it's too much for them then they can just join in meal afterwards...some of us will just be more chilled out and relaxed from the spa experience than the others! :) It'll make the spa cost £95 instead of £80 if less people come but those who are happy to pay that are my better friends anyway and are being understanding about it all. Like i said, all my mates work and none have kids while I'm a student with new baby so I thought they all might want a more sophisticated evening than me! I don't think it's a case of them not having the money, more that to some of them it's just a night out. Personally, in the past-if I couldn't afford a hen night I bowed out early on explaining why, instead of complaining or making the bride to be feel bad. But hey, such if life! thanks for the comments guys xxx

While it is easy to look and this ahh £80 is a fab price..... not everyone would want to pay £80 for a spa day. Im sorry, i know thats not what anyone wants to hear, and personally i think it sounds fabulous.... but sometimes its just not everyones cup of tea and maybe £80 sounds a lot for them?
Working isnt really the issue and to say "they all work" is not fair, me and h2b both work but that doesnt mean that i am in a financial situation to be able to fork out £80 at the drop of a hat, and it doesnt sound like they have been given imense amounts of notice.
I know that while planning our hag do, we have already decided what we are doing, and how much it will cost and this is for february / march time and we have already informed friends so as they can get money together.

If they are saying that they cant afford it, then that cant be helped. I know you will want your nearest and dearest there, i think going for a spa with those who can afford it and meeting others for a meal afterwards could be good.

We will be doing laser quest in the day and then heading to the pub, so people who for whatever reason are not joining us for laser quest have the option to meet us afterwards.

If ur going to Edinburgh for ur hen do trisarahtops, why don't you try dalhousie castle. The do an offer where it's £80 for two people and it includes a 30min treatment and ur lunch. More people may be willing to pay £40. They also offer a raul mud bath for £15 each which is good fun.

Is it the one spa at the Sheridan that you were looking to go to?
