trying to set a budget for the wedding and trying to see if i can save money on some areas so I thought id try my hand at making my own cake, I can bake cakes have done since school but never been good at decorating so need the practice.
i need some help working out what sizes would be best to serve 30-40 people without the top tier. I want a 4 tier cake.
    Is that too much cake?

how big do i make the slices to give the guests?
do I double stack the cakes?
what inch cake tins do i use for the differernt tiers?

the info im get off the net is not helping me much. xx

also think of making cupcakes for the evening guests but as these are individual they should be easy to sort out. xx

There was a very useful thread on this, will see if i can find it :)
I would say a 4 tier cake is a lot of cake for 40 people, we are having four tiers for about 120-people

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

We're having a 3 tier for 40 at the meal but don't know if its going to get cut up to be taken away by night guests too. Think me and h2b are going to take the top tier on honeymoon with us, so that will be getting put aside for us. We have around 80 extra guests coming at night.

People may not want cake at ours as we're having 3 cheesecakes for desert haha

    xx
