Hya, welcome to the site - you'll not find any other b2b's more welcoming and helpful anywhere else...
I definitely think the budget is the first place to start, my mother in law bought me a wedding planner & wedding bible, which I have found invaluable. I've been able to allocate the budget and keep records of all my different ideas (whilst your on here - you'll get lots of ideas that you think 'oh I like that, I'll do it too') I think to be realistic is important but also to think about what you and your fiancée want from your day. The first thing I bought was my dress (profile pic) and I centered the colour scheem and feel to the wedding around that...

Good luck and looking forward to sharing ideas...

Hello, welcome and congratulations to you both!
First and foremost, set your date. Then work out a realistic budget, decide whether you want a church wedding or a civil ceremony, check out ceremony venues, look for reception venues. Then you've got other bits like your dress/shoes etc, Bridesmaids dresses, flowers, transport for you and your H2B, photographers, stationery............you'll get masses of help on here.
btw - ebay is every bride's best friend ;)

    Have fun with planning
    xxx

    It's right what they say
"The course of true love never runs smoothly"
But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

I think the guest list is a good place to start. Once you have a rough idea of numbers it will help in deciding what kind of venue you want to look for. Ie If you want a small intimate wedding with around 30 guests theres no point in hiring a marquee, as with a guest list of 100+ guests would eliminate venues that can only hold a maximum of 60 or so guests. xx

I would echo most on here but start with a date first so you know what your aiming for guest list roughly so you know how many you have to fit in and cater for then budget so you can get an idea of what you have to play with
After that i would say venue dress and go from there

Good luck with it all we are all here to help so if you need anything then just holla lol xx

decide what you want to get out of your day. then start getting a ruff idea of what it will cost and set your budget. then start thinging about a date when can you get the money together buy when is a special day that it would be nice to have it on ect. start looking around for a venue that will fit your budget and style of wedding.
    lists are key

Everyone's so friendly it's lovely. I know we're saying june 2012 as we know he will have 3 weeks off for summer so just waiting to find out exact dates really but wanted to start getting some ideas as he usually gets a years notice of when he will be off so need to know what i want so i'm prepared to sort out in quite a short space of time. Im in the north west so does anyone have any good websites that list venues in this area? We both have huge families so i think we will have to cut down a bit on the guest list before it gets ridiculously expensive. Neither of us want something really flashy and over the top, we'd prefer something quite traditional and intimate really if our families will allow!!xx

congrats hunny! As the others have said your date, budget and venue are the key things really as they will determind everything else.... google search a wedding planner list and it will give you things to tick off (if your anything like me it really helps). you'll find this site so useful and the other girlies are so supportive and have some amazing ideas!! good luck and happy planning xx

congrats hun, welcome to the site.. i think the other girls have pretty much give you the heads up of where to start - just set your date, pick your venue. then work around that! There is a thread on here called the brides checklist, it pretty much tells you all you need to know! x
