How do you put in the evening invitations that although they are evening invites that you would like it if they could come to the church and actually see the wedding without giving the impression that they are invited to the sit down meal?

I had the same dilemma. In the end i wrote the usual request the pleasure of your company to an evening reception at (venue date time) then at the end i said all welcome to the wedding ceremony at (church name, date and time).

    Hope this helps

I might do that then. I'm hoping that because the reception is in a different place to the church it's not like people will hang around too long and invite themselves to the meal

thats why i think if you put the all welcome to church at the end of the invite - it is very clear that they are not invited to the meal. Bit harsh...but you can't feed everyone - thats the expensive part. Good luck xx

Yep I agree with Whittle - just make sure your invites clearly state it's the EVENING reception otherwise people may get a little confused

You could put you are invited to attend the ceremony at (church & time) and the evening reception at (venue) which starts at (time) x

There was a recent bride who put the above as suggested by Paula and it seemed to cause loads of problems as people just took it that they were invited to the whole thing! Muppets!

One suggestion was to say you are invited to an evening reception at.....
and then on the bottom add you are welcome to come and join us at the wedding ceremony at .....

    How about something like

'The main ceremony will be at ........ which we would love for you to attend then we will be disappearing for a quiet meal with our closest family so we hope to see you at the evening reception at .........'
