Hoping one of you glam girls can help, Ive never bothered having my nails done (Im a nurse and it was always a big no no even though its been years since I worked on a ward Ive never bothered) so I dont really know what I need for the big day??
I ve got 5 weeks to go, my nails are reasonably long and strong.....I just want a nice french for the day so questions are: 1. Do I want falsies or is there a way of strengthening my own? 2. Do I need to start now and if not when? 3. How long before the big day should I book the final appointment?
Thanks girls x

I just had a manicure the day before, and it lasted the whole honeymoon and longer. Like you, I never had them done professionally before- I don't like people fussing around me.

I get my nails done all the time, and I have acrylic and gel tips, you can get a gel overlay over your natural nails which looks fab, you would have your manicure as normal, then have a uv gel over it that you strengthen under iv light for 10 mins, it hardens and will stop any chipping for about 3 weeks until you fill in the re growth or just soak it off. You could definatly have that done a few days before the wedding and stil be looking great! Hope this helped xxx
what I was worried about was what I want, lol, will feel like a proper twit as ive heard my friends talking and it sounds like another language!
Perhaps I shouldnt try and pretend I know what i want and just go and ask their advice?

No probs chick! It's a good way of keeping your own nails at a length that your comfy with, stil having them looking natural but they will be strong enough for you to do anything with them without them getting damaged. (even the washing up, but don't let h2b in on that secret, mine thinks that if I wash up with my long nails, all his money will be wasted!!) Xx

If your own nails are long and strong enough then a manicure would be fine. I personally dont like false nails so wouldnt go for that but i know lots of ladies do.

A little bit of info:
Acrylics are the strongest but do tend to damage your natural nails however they should last and if you have pink & whites they look gorgeous.
Gels - Biosculpture & other brands. Are great they work in a similar way to acrylics ie. they are nail enhancements but they are kinder to your nails.
Shellac - this is like a normal manicure on your nails but is cured under a UV light therefore your nails are dry when you leave the salon and should last a minimum of 2 weeks.
All of the above you need to return to your salon to have the treatments removed.
Normal Manicure - these can last anywhere from 24 hours to 2 weeks and are the cheapest option.
You can strengthen your own nails and I would start sooner rather than later - Sally Hansen do a good range and so do Jessica. However, I pick my nails when I get nervous so even though at the moment they would be fine with just a manicure I will be having gels for the day because I don't want to risk biting them off just before I walk down the aisle.
Hope this helps a bit x

I don't wear falsies alot but when I do I usually get the gel tip ones put on. I find they look natural and elegant and keep on for ages (if you want them to that is!). Also they don't damage your natural nails too badly once they have been taken off.
If you already have nice natural nails I would just have them manicured with a french polish applied, maybe even a little gem here and there for your wedding day?
I think I am having the gel tips put on for my wedding as I keep biting my nails atm and they are quite short:(

If you are not used to false nails then tbh I wouldn't have them on your day. I wear them all the time and love them as nail varnish etc always stays on for longer but they do take some getting used to and any sort of false nail will do some damage to your natural nail no matter what they say. I would personally go the day before the wedding if you are having a manicure and polish as they can chip easily. The best way to make it last is build thin layers up and let each layer dry thoroughly before putting the next layer on. Salons do have the nail dryers so it doesn't take that long. I find Sally Hansen is the best for strength and also make sure you use a good cuticle cream as they need to be in top shape to also.
If you do decide to go for the false have them done a day or two before the day to get used to. They are hard wearing and don't tend to chip so you should be safe. If you have them done too early as they start to grow out they don't look as good and even when you have infills they never look as good as a fresh set as no matter how good the technician is you always get a little mark here or there where it has been filled.
