I have recently got engaged and don't plan to marry until summer 2014 but picking a venue is so difficult! Has anyone any tips or even found a little diamond in the rough in the Eedinburgh & Lothians area I have missed?

we had loads to cover so we 1. Researched as many venues as we could find and asked friends and family for possible venues. 2. Had a quick look at each venue online to decide if we liked the general look of it and for approximate prices if they had any. Any without approximate prices, provided we liked it generally, we phoned up and asked for approximate prices. 3. We narrowed it down to the ones that were within budget and ones that we really really liked. We also looked at some reviews e.g. we found out one castle we were considering turned your music down and you had to stick to their set way of doing things and it was not personal etc so ruled it out. 4. We went to see each one, asking lots of questions e.g. timings, expectations, other brides, accomodation etc and ruled out accordingly. 5. We narrowed down again and then came up with pros and cons of each until choosing our venue.

Well Clarabella I have the same sort of problem! I always dreamed of getting marrie din St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile but there doesn't seem to be anywhere close enough for the reception that takes my fancy so I've scrubbed the whole idea and moved onto Stately homes and Castles (possibly giving my mind a treat given the cost of some of them!)
Shellyspiers, did consider the Vu but it's literally about 2 mins from my house and we often eat out there so doesn't really feel like a wedding venue if that makes sense x
You want something special but the Vu doesnt sound special to you if you both eat there often

lol thats great lol. We have h2bs grandad saying if he won the lottery he'd pay off our mortgage and a old lady at work who loves me to bits has also said if she won then i think she said shed see us right or shed pay for our wedding i cant quite remember lol but either way we're sorted lol
