Hi babe, 1st of WELCOME AND CONGRATS!
Over the weekend ive been on a TIP finding mission lol (lots of tip posts on the forum) so in my travels across the net i came across the following.....hope it helps?
Remember if you need ANY help just ask as theirs hundreds of ladies on here going through the same thing so will have lots of ideas and money saving tips. Obviously you dont have to listen to this if you dont agree with anything lol after all a wedding is a wedding is a wedding hehehe
Just remember to have FUN while planning YOUR day!
Planning a Gay Wedding Find tips on planning a gay wedding including where to find gay wedding rings, gay wedding invitations, gay wedding cakes, gay wedding cake toppers and gay wedding apparel.
1. What Gay Jewelry Has To Offer Gay couples looking to marry have the option of shopping in the mainstream for their wedding rings, or looking at what gay jewelry has to offer. Gay jewelry designers provide a far wider range of options for gay rings, particularly for gay men who are looking for a wider choice when choosing a engagement or commitment ring for their partner. Gay jewelry ranges from the conventional to the outrageous. Pieces feature artwork of gay love, like intertwined male figures or two silver Mars symbols bound together with satin cords. Gay rings are crafted from the usual precious metals and also an increasing number in stainless steel. Some sets use the Mars symbol to link the wedding and engagement ring – imprinting one ring in white gold with circles and the other, in 24-carat gold, with arrows.
For couples who want to avoid the use of a wedding ring, a neck chain set might suit. Pieces feature pendants that are two halves of the same whole, for instance a yin yang symbol that incorporates mars symbols and breaks apart for a split pendant set. Giving gay rings as surprise presents is a wonderful way to pop the question, but it can very easily go wrong if the ring is the wrong size. A handy way to secretly check the size needed is to sneak a peek at his jewelry box for the size of existing jewelry he has.
2. Feminine Lesbian Rings Gay and lesbian designer jewelry features a lot of sophisticated designs, but Lesbian Jewelry does have some extremely feminine touches for femmes. Lesbian rings include recognizably lesbian symbols in soft, curvy designs for feminine touches. Some examples include a set of gold wedding rings featuring a rim of diamonds on a rounded gold band, set with a Venus symbol. The symbol extends over the edge of the ring to create an interlocking ring if the matching half is joined. Another set has wedding bands with the shape of a half Venus symbol carved into the edge, so its mate creates the outline of the symbol. Engagement rings use jewels laid in a flower-like configuration, paying tribute to the vulva, or shaped to form an iris or rose.
For partners who can't wear a wedding ring, a heart shape pendant, with engraved lesbian rings in gold, signals just as strongly as a wedding ring that the wearer is married.
3. Lesbian Wedding Gear Without the Frills It is possible for lesbian brides to forgo the white dress without having to wear a male suit. Although female tailors are rare, it is worth investigating to source a tailor who will outfit you with an elegant, stylish suit that is perfect for your proportions. Lesbian brides should not be shy about requesting a suit that is suitably tailored for the female body. An English company, Harman Hay, which specializes in lesbian wedding clothes, notes that the conventional wedding market expects lesbian brides to hire a man's suit without alteration. The company recommends that lesbian brides investigate the style that they desire, and not exclude tailcoats or a suit that is a little more 'Mr Darcy' dapper.
If a female tailor is unavailable to create a whole suit from scratch, a fitted suit is still possible with the help of a few skillful alterations. Purchasing a male suit that has roughly the right type of cut for the style wanted, as well as good quality material, and tracking down a reliable clothing alteration company is a good way to secure the perfect wedding suit. When shopping for suits for a lesbian wedding, couples should also keep an eye out for gay jewelry pieces that will add just the right touch of style. An elegant tie-pin, interesting cufflinks or bracelets, or a jeweled hair accessory can finish off the stylish look.
4. How To Plan Your Wedding Cake Several decisions need to be made when planning a wedding cake, and not just what flavor it should be. Couples need to decide whether they need a long-lasting cake, like a fruit cake, or a gooey delight, which has to be prepared close to the day and eaten all at the reception. Couples also need to decide whether to hire serving staff from the catering company providing the cake, whether to hire crockery and cutlery with the cake, or whether to buy the cake alone. Cakes are usually priced per serve, so definite wedding numbers are needed when the cake is ordered. Decorations, such as ribbons and flowers, are not necessarily included in a cake's pricing so this needs to be checked.
Once these things are decided, the fun can begin. Couples can choose cakes flavored with liqueurs, with fillings or without, what type of cake and what design they want. Cakes can be designed to match the wedding clothes or the decoration plan, with draped royal icing to mimic draperies and a choice of colors. Couples should remember to shop around for their wedding cakes, as many mainstream bakeries will stick to traditional cake designs only. If a couple has a specific design in mind, asking local bakers whether they would be willing to try it is always an option.
5. Gay Wedding Cake Toppers There are many gay wedding cake toppers around, although the range of gay wedding cake toppers is not quite as broad as traditional cake toppers. Most gay wedding cake toppers feature the usual two-tuxedoed-men or two-gowned-brides theme, but deeper research can provide a few more interesting options.
Toppers suited to all cultures can be found and most cake topper providers will provide at least one gay option for each race. More interesting options include art sculptures, couples in retro clothes, or personalized glass monograms. When choosing a wedding cake topper, couples should keep their eyes open for small sculptures that suit their tastes. Light artworks can be used as cake toppers instead of the traditional cake topper and are a way to personalize the wedding cake.

6. Gay Wedding Invitations Gay wedding invitations should be sent up to one year in advance for a formal wedding. Remember to include an RSVP date on the invitation. There are some cool invitations out there if you choose to have your invitations printed. Prices of printed invitations are reasonable if you don't require each guest's name printed on individual invitations. Be sure to shop around. When considering what style to choose and how to word your invitation, keep the overall style of your wedding in mind. Your wedding invitation will provide the first knowledge for some of your friends that you've decided to take this step, and may also be the first time some of the invitees have heard of a same-**** wedding. The invitation will also set the stage for the style of your wedding, so if you are having a Leather theme, lacy invites are probably not a good idea.
When ordering invites, don't forget the invitations for your rehearsal dinner. These can use a similar theme and are a good way to provide extra information to your guests.
7. Why Go Gay When Planning Your Wedding When planning a gay wedding, couples have the option of mainstream suppliers or seeking out gay suppliers. Putting in the effort to find gay suppliers is worthwhile for several reasons - provide unusual stuff, put in more effort than mainstream companies who are either complacent or scared to be different and they support gay rights.
Gay suppliers offer a more interesting range of invitations, decorations, wedding clothes and information and advice. Gay suppliers are usually eager to provide the extreme option and frequently cross-advertise, meaning that contacting a gay supplier lets you into a whole network of resources. Couples who are interested in exploring gay options for wedding planning can access information through gay marriage groups and the Internet. The Internet has a free gay wedding planner couples can access to make plans and get organized.
8. Gay Friendly Honeymoon Spots It is vital to choose a gay-friendly spot for your honeymoon. The last thing a newlywed couple needs on their honeymoon is an unwelcoming environment where public cuddles are frowned on. Safety-wise, a newlywed couple is not on guard for indications that they may be in danger from homophobes.
Some gay-friendly honeymoon spots recommended by American gay honeymoon agents include Palm Springs, Key West and Atlanta. When you plan a trip, be sure to ask the agent for gay-friendly hotels so that you have a relaxing environment to celebrate in. Rio in Brazil is highly recommended although travel agents do advise couples to go in the quieter period outside carnivale time (not because of danger, just crowds). Costa Rica and Buenos Aires, the Galapagos Islands, Cape Town (particularly Der Waterkant) all have gay hotels, as well as Peru for a couple who wants to travel. Bali is a good spot for some tropical fun, and Australia and New Zealand are friendly as well as cheap.
9. Gay Wedding Favors There are lots of interesting gay wedding favors available, so it's a good idea to match a favor to your decorating theme in your gay wedding planning. Choose the wedding favors in accordance with the style of your wedding. If you are going traditional, with lots of classic white and gold decorations, a simple box filled with gold sugared almonds or chocolates will contribute to the classic touch. If you have a themed wedding, pick out something small and interesting that suits your theme, and add small things to finish off the treat.
When picking out items, simple things will suffice and consumables will make your friends smile about you in the week to come as they sneak another chocolate from their favor box. Interesting favor ideas include personalized chocolates, mini bottles of spirits and mini perfume favors. If you are inviting children to the wedding, consider including children's activity bags in your favor plans.
10. Commitment Ceremony Gift Registries Even if gay marriage is not legal in the state you live in, when planning a gay wedding remember that your home-based commitment ceremony still merits a gift registry. Your commitment ceremony is your declaration to the world that you are a couple who is committed to love and support one another for the rest of your lives, and this traditionally means receiving support from friends and family in the form of gifts.
To find a suitable registry, have a look at gay marriage sites and investigate the mainstream wedding gift registries in your area. Remember that you don't have to register for china and silver or accept antiquated views on bridal registries, so if a store refuses to accept your registry, remind them that discrimination is against the law. Many department stores, however, are completely friendly to same **** gift registries.
Keep your mind open when thinking of what to list. There are no rules against listing gifts from home improvement stores, PC stores or travel agents. Think of what you need and would most like, and don't feel bad about what you list – a registry makes finding gifts easier for family and friends, and as long as you include a broad range of items and costs everyone should be comfortable. welcome to uk bride as hails says a wedding is a wedding, good luck with your planning, my sister chose celtic rings for her and her partner xx
In my experience gay/lesbian weddings are pretty much the same as any other in terms of events, sequence and organisation.
There are two things that have been noticably different.
Firstly, there can be "family" issues, so not every member of the family will attend - you already know who they are I should think. If it is an "expected" member of the family, say father of the bride, make sure your photographer and master of ceremonies know so they don't call out for them.
Secondly, the evenings are so much more fun than regular weddings :)
Don't ask me why, but the best evening discos are always at G/L weddings
I also know that some wedding vendors aren't happy about working with gays. In my area you wouldn't want a photographer who doesn't get it - because that would show in your photos.

It's right what they say
"The course of true love never runs smoothly"
But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D
