is there any way you can compromise? have a smaller wedding ceremony and then a big gypsy style party/reception afterwards? Would that keep everyone happy? x

What do his family disagree with? In the nicest possible way it's not really up to his family what you do - just you and him and what you want! x

If his family are too damned snobbish to come to your wedding, then stuff them.

H2B needs to grow a set of balls and tell them tough titty its what you want!

Sounds harsh, but ffs why should you have to compromise to keep THEM happy? Its YOUR and your H2B's day!

    Hello btw x x

    Hello, welcome and congratulations!!

Sweetheart, he's marrying YOU for who and what you are, if his family are so narrow minded they view Gypsys (I'm a Romany descendant btw) as the stereotypical trash that gets portrayed on TV then he should really be telling them to take a hike. You're HIS choice and his family really need to accept that!
    I'm with Janey - elope!! ;) xxx

Hi foxy my mate at work is getting married next year and she is a traveller too and their wedding is going to be lovely, really organised well, why dont you try and get his Mum to make suggestions about the wedding, maybe if she is included she will feel better about it, if not then you have to go with what is in your roots and what you want, after all its your day no one elses x

Welcome to the site hun and many congratulations on your engagement. I think the whole situation is absolutely disgraceful and in a way the in-laws are being nothing more than racist!! That may sound harsh but would they do the same if you were marrying a guy with a different skin colour? They should respect your heritage and let you and your H2B have the day you both want!! This makes me mad when people think they have the right to organise someone elses big day. Is it just the MIL2B that is causing the problems hun or is it the whole family? xxx

U know wot I've been reading all the threads n whilst u sound so fed up n hurt by his family as soon as you started talking about ur dress you could hear the excitement in your voice. I think you should go for it hun, have the day YOU want, marry the man of your dreams and don't worry about the in-laws it's for life not just for Christmas so best they just get used to the idea and get over it. After all they've got 2 years til ur big day & you never know they might just start to realise their views are from the dark ages and it's time to get with real life. You'd think they'd just want their son to be happy... I know I would! As for baking the cake if she can't find the time in 2 years to organise 1 hour to make it maybe it's for the best... bet they don't taste that good anyway lol ;) xx

Hi & welcome to the forum! I also think you should stick to your plans. Your heritage is clearly important to you and there is no reason you shouldn't be able to follow your own traditions and have your wedding the way you want. What does your other half say about it all? If you have been together for 4 years he must know how important this is to you and I guess must have also know this would be what you wanted. I think his parents behaved disgracefully by causing your engagement party to be cancelled - they are not interested in thier son's happiness! Are you parents supporting you with your decision? I really hope you can work this out but if not, no-one will be forcing them to come so it will be thier choice in the end - so it comes down to whether they will want to miss thier son's wedding or not! Good Luck xxx

Well this is how I see it.. you've just said you're from a gypsy family and H2B knows this, and still wants to marry you.. He should know how weddings work within the travellers community! So.. He had already agreed to that and now he's changing his mind because of his family!

Well, if I was you I would personally tell his family, that it is none of their business and if they wont come to your wedding, then tough! And carry on planning like you were! It's Yours and H2Bs day, no one elses!

Hello btw, welcome to UKBride.. :) x

welcome to the site foxys and congrats on your engaggement. i think you should sit down with h2b and discuss and agree on what you both want for your wedding. one you have agreed, unite together and tell everyone what you are having and tell them if they dont like it then get stuffed!!!!
Your roots are clearly a problem for his narrow minded parents, have they even met your family to be able to judge them???? Just becasue your a gypsy it doent mean that you are any differnt from them. in fact you probably have more money then them and seen much more of the world then they have!!! What ever you do, never change to please anyone. your man obvioulsy loves you for you and that should be enough for his parents................. im not being funny, but if they believe all of the sterotype of a gypsy, why an earth are they causing trouble with you lol x x good luck sweetie x x

Welcome hun and Congrats on your engagement!! :)

One thing I always stand strong in is that your wedding is YOUR wedding and sodd what every body else says..
Just because your a Gypsy dosn't mean your wedding is going to be the same as all other gypsies.. so how can they say it's going to be tacky??

Your you and your h2b loves you for those reasons so why should you have a wedding that isn't you??

If his family are being pathetic and not wanting to see their own family get marries for that reason then in my opinion their not much good family at all!! :)

Hope you decide on something you both love!! :) xx

chick, its ur's n ur fella's day, no one has the right to dictate to you what to do and how to do it. do what feels right for you both! if his family dont want to come, they dont have to. its just plain rude of them to dictate who u can and cant invite! me n sam (my fella) r talking about everything, rite down to flowers and wedding favours (except my dress, thats secret :P), and deciding what WE want together. Isnt it funny how parents spend all their time telling their kids to act their age, not fight with siblings etc, and then it comes to a wedding and suddenly some people are all "its ur day ... ME ME ME ME ME!" go with ur heart hun.xxx
